It’s the most wonderful time of the year … time for Press Publications’ Holiday Lights Contest, that is.

Press Publications is eager to see everyone’s displays. The second annual contest will kick off the week of Dec. 22 and run through Dec. 31.

With COVID-19 still hanging around this holiday season, many families are looking to get out and about to fi nd a way to celebrate.

“Everybody is at a different point in their COVID journey, and people have different levels of concern, so this activity is open to most people,” said Publisher Carter Johnson.

Last year’s holiday lights contest was created out of a pandemic year, and while this year may feel a bit different with the return of holiday concerts, plays and family events—all thanks to increased vaccinations—the holiday lights still offer a feeling of hope for the future.

“The lights have different meanings to different people,” Johnson noted.

POLICE REPORTS The Centennial Lakes Police Department reported the following incidents: • Officers were dispatched to the 3600 block of Centerwood Road in Lexington for an information report Nov. 10.

• Officers were dispatched to the 30 block of Circle Drive in Circle Pines for a lost property report on Nov. 10.

• Officers dispatched a phone call to a female who resides in Circle Pines Nov. 10. The female reported criminal sexual conduct that occurred in Las Vegas.

• A theft was reported in the 7300 block of 20th Avenue in Centerville on Nov. 10.

• An officer conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle in Lexington Avenue NE and North Road in Circle Pines that yielded a probable cause search for marijuana Nov. 10.

• Officers were dispatched to a theft report in the 3600 block of Edith Lane in Lexington Nov. 10.

• An officer took a phone call in the 1900 block of Eagle Trail in Centerville regarding suspicious activity Nov. 10.

• An assist was conducted to Lexington City Hall at Griggs Avenue and Edgewood Road in Lexington Nov. 10.

• Police conducted a warrant service attempt in the 3800 block of Patriot Lane in Lexington Nov. 11. One person was transported to jail.

• Officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Griggs Avenue and Flowerfield Road in Lexington. The male

driver was subsequently arrested for DWI. • Officers were dispatched to the 3900 block of Restwood on a fuel spill in Lexington on Nov. 11.

• Officers dispatched a phone call to the 200 block of North Star Lane in Circle Pines regarding a possible person whose foot was run over by a vehicle and whose phone was broken Nov. 11. The accident was unintentional.

• An officer checked on an unoccupied suspicious vehicle near the intersection of Lexington Avenue and North Road in Circle Pines Nov. 12.

• Officers observed a bicycle traffic violation at the intersection of North Highway Drive and Restwood Road in Lexington. The individual was stopped and eventually arrested on his outstanding warrant Nov. 12.

The Lino Lakes Police Department reported the following incidents: • Officers responded to a home under construction for a possible fire on the 7200 block of Crane Drive Nov. 9. Officers were assisted by the Lino Lakes Fire Department. No other problems were found.

• Officers responded to the report of a suspicious male on Main Street and Doneau Lake Road East Nov. 9. Officers made contact with the male and transported him to a local hotel.

• Officers responded to a report of a property damage accident involving two vehicles on Birch Street and West Shadow Lake Drive Nov. 9. The incident was documented and a state crash report was completed.

• An officer received an ongoing civil dispute report in the 6900 block of Lakeview Drive Nov. 9. The parties were given additional resources.

• An officer responded to a suspicious activity report in the 6600 block of White Birch Court Nov. 9. The officer determined no crime occurred and documented the information.

• An officer responded to a stove fi re in the 1200 block of Chokecherry Road Nov. 9. The fire was out and no one was injured during the incident. The fire department responded to investigate and ventilate the home.

• An officer responded to a report of found property on Lake Drive and Main Street Nov. 9. The property was found to be damaged and of no value and was disposed of.

• Officers responded to a driving complaint on Red Maple Lane and 62nd Street Nov. 9. Officers found the complainant was home and safe but were unable to locate the other involved vehicle.

• Officers responded to a call of a personal injury accident in the 600 block of Main Street Nov. 9. The parties involved refused an ambulance.

• An officer conducted a traffic stop for speed in the 700 block of Main Street Nov. 10. The driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested for DWI. • An officer responded to a possible grass fire in the 700 block of Town Center Parkway Nov. 10. The officers were unable to locate a fire.

• Officers responded to the area for dangling wires in the 700 block of Lois Lane Nov. 10. The wires were fixed by the utility company.

• Officers responded to a call of gunshots in the area in the 8100 block of Wood Duck Trail Nov. 10. Following an investigation, an adult male was cited for a firearm discharge violation.

• An officer observed a vehicle parked outside a closed business with an insecure door to the business in the 600 block of Apollo Drive Nov. 11. Officers made contact with a male inside who was contracted to do construction work

on the building.

• Officers responded to a vehicle theft in progress on the 6300 block of Red Fox Road Nov. 11. Officers located the stolen vehicle, but the suspect fled from the vehicle. Multiple agencies and resources were deployed to help locate the suspect.

The vehicle was processed and the case is under investigation.

• An officer received a phone call report of a property damage accident in the 700 block of Apollo Drive Nov. 11. The officer spoke to both parties involved and documented the incident.

• The school resource officer took a neighborhood traffic complaint in the 300 block of Elm Street Nov. 11 regarding a high volume of vehicles at the beginning and end of the school day. The information has been passed on to the school administrators.

• A gas drive-off was reported at a gas station in the 7000 block of 21st Avenue South Nov. 12. The officer was unable to identify a suspect.

• An officer observed a traffic violation and conducted a traffic stop on 21st Avenue and Main Street Nov. 12. The driver did not have a valid license, vehicle insurance, nor proof of vehicle ownership. The vehicle was towed and the driver was issued a citation. The driver was transported to a nearby gas station.

• Officers responded to a motorist assist call in the 7500 block of Lake Drive Nov. 12. Officers located the vehicle and, upon investigation, discovered the vehicle did not have current registration. The driver was cited for the offense and the vehicle was towed.

• Officers responded to a local business in the 6900 block of Otter Lake Road Nov. 12 on a report of two suspicious males on the property after hours. The males were gone by the time officers arrived. The males stole several items and the investigation is ongoing.

• Officer received a littering complaint in the 7500 block of Village Drive Nov. 13.

The investigation is ongoing.

• An officer responded to a local business for a suspected theft in the 700 block of Apollo Drive Nov. 13. The officer spoke to staff and found no theft had occurred.

• An officer responded to a traffic complaint on Lois Lane and Marilyn Drive Nov. 13. The officer checked the area and did not locate the vehicle involved in the complaint.

• Officers responded to a local school for a burglar alarm in the 500 Birch Street Nov. 14. Officers found the school was secure.

• A former resident wanted to know if there were any open cases against her Nov. 15.

There was no record of a case with her and she was advised to call Anoka County Court Administration.

• The school board will hold its truth in taxation meeting Dec. 6, and will hold a closed session Dec. 13 to conduct the mid-year superintendent evaluation for Superintendent Jeff Holmberg.

• The district is wrapping up the focus group portion of the strategic planning process. Holmberg said throughout the process so far, the district has seen participation from 60 students (from the middle school and high school), 80 parents (from early childhood through high school) and more than 100 staff members, as well as other community leaders, mayors and city administrators.

“We are at a point where after the focus groups, we are going to synthesize the information we heard and start to draft some of the mission and vision components that will be sending out for review and feedback,” Holmberg said.

Cougar volleyball awards, leaders announced Season awards have been announced for the Centennial volleyball team that had a 16-12 season, 4-5 in conference.

Mattie Petersen, junior libero, was included on the all-Northwest Suburban team. Getting honorable mentions were seniors Marley Baland and Linaya Swenson and eighth-grader Elena Hoecke.

Team awards went to Hoecke, most outstanding player; Petersen, defensive player; Swenson and junior Andi Koslowski, offensive threats; Ashley McClellan, best server; Baland, hustle; and Swenson, teammate of the year. Awards were announced by coach Jackie Rehbein-Manthey.

Koslowski led with 159 kills, followed by Cassie Sosinski 155, Swenson 149 and Hoecke 140.

Hoecke had the best kill percentage, .402, followed

by Swenson, .375. McClellan made 459 assists and Ingrid Noha 183.

Petersen led with 50 aces. Baland had 39, McClellan 38, Hoecke 28 and Noha 27. McClellan served 93.6% and Noha 91.2.

Hoecke led with 66 blocks (nine solo), followed by Swenson with 61 (seven solo). Petersen led with 339 digs and 480 serve receptions. Noha had 208 digs, Sosinski 186 and McClellan 157.

• The 2022-23 district student and staff calendars have been approved. This is the first district calendar that has not included snow days thanks to e-learning days.

The first day of school will be Sept. 6 and the last day of school will be June 2 for seniors and June 6 for other grades. Spring break will be March 6-10.

• Now that a second reading has been held, 11 policies have been updated to reflect Minnesota School Board Association (MSBA) model policies, which reflect statutory requirements that the Legislature enacted during the 2021 legislative session.

• The board has designated combined polling places, which it is required to do

by Dec. 31 each year. The combined polling places designated (via resolution) are the polling places for the following calendar year unless a change is made in case of an emergency or because a polling place has become unavailable. Pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, Section 205A.11, the board may establish a combined polling place for several precincts for school district elections not held on the day of a

This will wrap up the construction project that began in 2019. The furniture is expected to not arrive until spring due to supply chain issues, Chaffey said.

• The board has approved a proposal to purchase 10 iPads per classroom for grades K-2 for $191,100. The low bidder was Apple Inc. Chaffey explained that about half of that purchase price will be covered by federal dollars. One day, the hope is to have a device for every student.

• The principals’ contracts for 2021-22 and 2022-23 have been approved. The agreements include a 4% increase for health insurance in year one and 2.5% increase in year two; add $500 to the base salary in year one and a 2% increase in years one and two; add longevity after 25 years with a $500 increase in year one and $500 increase in year two.

The board has also approved 21 individual contract settlements, which all include a 2% salary increase for 2019-2020 and 2020-2021.

• Restructuring of the district office continues.

The district has already restructured some roles and responsibilities in the human resources department and is now making some changes to the business office. The job title and duties of the finance specialist role have been changed to the accounting and finance manager position. “This is necessary to give support to our busi-

• The district is compliant in all areas of its pay equity report. Every three years, all employers in the U.S. are required to submit a pay equity report, which includes wages of all employees, to make sure that male and female workers are paid equally.

• The district has once again received an unmodified, or clean, opinion on its financial audit (for year end June 30, 2021). Aaron Nielsen, of MMKR, explained that there were no material weaknesses or instances of noncompliance reported on the financial audit, and there were also no instances of noncompliance with state laws and regulations.

• The district now has an updated joint powers agreement (JPA) with Northeast Metro Intermediate School District 916. Executive Director of Business Services Patrick Chaffey explained the JPA was created in 1969, and the update was needed when a member district (St. Francis) wanted to leave the district.

Per the updated JPA, a member district wishing to withdraw must provide notice by Feb. 1 for withdrawal effective June 30 of the following fiscal year.

Notice of the withdrawal must be via resolution and passed by the member district’s board.

Currently, approximately 88 students in the district utilize services of 916. In other news, school board Director Tom Knisely reported that 916 was one of three districts in the state to receive a federal grant from the Department of Homeland Security. For the next five years, 916 will receive $450,000 per year to improve its mental health services.

• This spring, there will be new furniture at the high school. The district will pay $260,692 to Innovative

Daily gratitude

I

’VE BEEN TRYING to wrap my arms around the American holiday of Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for: our nation’s freedoms, a free enterprise system, law and order, advanced medical care, and the list goes on and on.

We are privileged to be living on the Earth within the Universe that God has created. The earth has an amazing ability to adapt and regenerate. The earth provides energy, food, and habitat which are all renewable and available in seasons.

I continue to be thankful for the Jews who have preserved God’s revelation in His words to us. Further, I’m thankful to the Catholics and their 14 Apocalyptic books. I’m thankful for the New Testament along with numerous spiritual letters.

Another amazing gift from God that I’m thankful for is sending His Son, Jesus, to come into the world as a human and to die for us on the cross that we might have About the resurrection and a new life.

Capital investment committee stays busy

reetings from Saint Paul and the Minnesota House of Representatives. The House is not in session right now but that does not mean we are not busy. Over the past several weeks, the Capital Investment Committee, on which I serve, has been touring the entirety of Minnesota.

We have seen projects that range from visiting Legislator Braham to learn more about their Lingo wastewater Donald Raleigh treatment needs, to the community of Tyler to find out more about the Trunk Sanitary Sewer Reconstruction project that they have in the southwest part of the state. It may seem like a Johnny Cash song, but it feels like I have

been everywhere. I have been posting pictures of our tours on facebook.com/ RepDonaldRaleigh So, what is the Capital Investment Committee’s purpose? Under the state constitution, all expenditures of state funds, including bond proceeds, must be for a public purpose.

There is a public purpose if the expenditure can reasonably be expected to achieve a legitimate public goal or benefit, even if private interests also benefit.

A capital project, in general, is to acquire or improve fixed assets, such as land or buildings. The fixed asset must be longlived; at least ten years.

The improvements must be substantial, extend the useful life or substantially increase the value of the fixed asset, and not be predictable or recurring, as repairs would be.

Our guidelines state that even though there is no statutory limit on how much

debt the state may incur, there was a precedent set in 2009 that the total taxsupported principal shall be 3.25% or less of the total state personal income. This sounds like a very technical item, but I wanted to point it out to give you a better view into how our government operates and how we arrive at the numbers we do.

Last week I was in Lino Lakes to discuss a water treatment plant. The work of the committee will then be to look at all the projects across the state and fund projects based on our target spending. PUBLIC SAFETY BRIEF 2 Lexington firefighters resign, investigation continues Lexington City Attorney Kurt Glaser has confi rmed that two of the four Lexington fi refighters who were under investigation have voluntarily resigned from the department. All four of the fi refighters had been suspended from duty pending an ongoing investigation. The Quad Press fi rst reported on the investigation back in September.

Glaser told the Press late last week that firefighter Scott Parenteau and Captain Todd Messer have voluntarily resigned from the department amid the investigation. Complaints against the other two firefighters remain open and under investigation.

Glaser said he hopes the investigation will be wrapped up within the next couple of weeks.

Lino Lakes Community Development Director Michael Grochala tells the House Capital Investment Committee why the city needs just over $12 million.

House Capital Investment Committee visits Lino Lakes Rep. Donald Raleigh (R-Circle Pines) and members of the House Capital Investment committee recently visited the city of Lino Lakes as part of their statewide bonding tour. Lino Lakes is seeking just over $12 million for a new gravity filtration water treatment plant (WTP).

The city completed a water treatment feasibility study in 2020, which evaluated several water treatment options such as drilling new wells, purchasing treated water from neighboring communities, or other types of treatments. It was determined that the most feasible and cost-effective solution is to construct a central conventional gravity filtration WTP. This WTP will have a direct public health benefit for the community and over 18,000 residents and businesses served by the Lino Lakes water system. The WTP will decrease iron concentrations and improve overall water quality.

"Providing clean drinking water to residents and businesses is critical to the community’s health today and its ability to grow into the future." Raleigh said. "I look forward to working with Mayor Rafferty and the staff at the city of Lino Lakes to make this community wide project a priority in the 2022 bonding bill."

HOLIDAY LIGHTS Centennial School Board selects 4 CONTEST: Enter for candidates to interview for vacant seat bragging rights, prizes

After receiving nine applications for the vacant school board position, the Centennial School Board has now reviewed applications and interviewed the top four candidates.

The board will officially appoint its pick in December, and the selected candidate will be sworn in in January.

School Board Director Stephanie Carlson, whose term was supposed to run through 2024, submitted her resignation last month. Her resignation letter explained that she resigned because of personal reasons.

According to the Minnesota School Board Association (MSBA), around 70 board members have resigned from their positions in 2021 within the state — triple the number of resignations in a typical year.

The process to fill the vacant seat for a one-year term is nearly complete.

The district accepted applications from Nov. 2 through Nov. 12. The board reviewed all nine applications at its Nov. 15 meeting and decided which candidates it wanted to

learn more about through personal interviews.

“I think we have nine great candidates,” said school board Director Tom Knisely. “The bottom line is that there are going to be good people who aren’t appointed.”

During the meeting, which was open to the public per the Minnesota Open Meeting Law, board applicants were referred to by letter to comply with the state's Data Practices Act, which protects certain personal information.

However, per the Data Practices Act, names and other information, regarding applicants are public information. The nine candidates include: Robert Vollbrecht, Deborah Dahlberg, Gina Schmittdiel, Nicole Dufour, Kara Schmitz, John Burns, Cindy Hansen, Becky Squibbs and Laura Gannon.

School board members each had a chance to choose their top two candidates. There seemed to be a general consensus that candidate A would be a great fit.

Board Treasurer Chris Bettinger said he was leaning toward candidate A because of their experience. “When I started on the school board, it

took me a year to figure out what was happening.

It is a learning curve,” he explained. “To have somebody come in without that experience for a oneyear appointed position, I think they are going to be spending that whole year learning. It would be nice to have somebody that can come in on the run.”

Director Sue Linser said she agreed. “I’ve been here for nine months, and I’m getting to the point where I feel like I have an impact, but prior to that it was very hard to come up to speed,” she said.

Board Chair Suzy Guthmueller said she agreed that candidate A would be a good choice. “I believe that person has a lot of the skills we are looking for,” she said. “Right now, we (school boards) are in a different time than we have ever been in. I think that that person could come in and hit the ground running and be a real contributor right away, and I think that would be really fabulous for us to have that. I think that would be a really good fit for our board.”

The board’s pick will be appointed at the Dec. 6 meeting, and the new candidate will officially be sworn in Jan. 10. In November 2022, voters will have the opportunity to fill three board seats in addition to the seat vacated

by Carlson. The winner of that special election will serve a two-year term.

“I’m very pleased that we had so much interest and great candidates, and community members that wanted to step up and serve,” Guthmueller said.

Press Advertising Manager Patty Steele has her own holiday lights tradition to uphold. “I have two brothers who live in White Bear, and we go out and look at the Christmas lights every Christmas Eve. It’s a fun memory to go out with a group of people,” Steele said.

For those looking to do more than just beautify their lawn during the darker months, some holiday lights displays require a true engineer to design and execute some of the displays exhibited last year.

“A few homes over the years have had just magnificent displays. There are two that stand out to me on Bald Eagle Lake,” Johnson recalled. “It’s like having Disney in our own backyard.

There are different scenes as you drive by, and you’ll want to pay attention to the upstairs window because there’s something special there.”

Power of Centennial hopes to receive more grant applications going forward Members of the Power of Centennial (POC) group are hopeful going forward that they will have more funding requests so their dollars can continue to have an impact on Centennial students.

Although the group has had a couple of grant cycles where only two or three requests came in, the most recent round was probably first time the group only received one grant application. POC funded four grants last spring.

POC, a subcommittee of the Centennial Area Education Foundation (CAEF), meets twice each year to determine where it would like its dollars to go within the community.

Members meet in the fall and spring; each member commits to giving $50 at each meeting. All dollars raised are given as grants to support education in the Centennial area. POC members vote to decide which grant requests to fulfill.

The group has historically met at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Circle Pines, but throughout the pandemic had to shift to virtual meetings via Zoom.

However, for the first time since the pandemic began, the group was finally able to meet in person again for the fall meeting.

“I'm so thankful we were able to meet in person, and hope to continue this trend going forward,” said POC CoChair Talia Averbeck.

“One of our goals over the next year is to increase community awareness of the group and expand areas where we can provide support. Being able to meet in person to connect with our educators and community members will help this program thrive.”

The group currently has approximately 50 active members. Since its inception, POC has awarded $23,460 in funding (not including the most recent round of grants). This fall, POC raised a little more than $1,700 in funds to distribute, in addition to $400 carried over from last spring’s cycle.

POC will fund its one and only request, submitted by Karen Stevens, a kindergarten teacher at Golden Lake Elementary.

She requested $124 to purchase nine different books that focus on social justice and racial equity for young learners to use in her classroom, as well as the other kindergarten classrooms.

“My hope is to increase the number of books in my classroom that encourage social justice

and equity for all. These books will be used throughout the entire year,” Stevens wrote in the grant application.

“The books will be used to help students to grow in empathy, understanding differences, individuality, tolerance, belonging and acceptance.”

POC members guessed the low turnout for grant applications may have to do with current

circumstances: the ongoing pandemic, staffing shortages and an overall stressful time to be an educator.

POC meetings are typically held in November and May. In an effort to make the timing work better for teachers, the POC has decided to move up the spring meeting to March instead of May. CAEF Past President

Jan Kreminski said, “We as a board are searching for ways to help our children. That’s what we are really about. We are listening to try to figure out how to help this community.”

Grant applications for the spring session will be due by March 1. The POC will then meet March 15 to vote on which grants to fund.

Each year, CAEF

typically distributes approximately $24,000 in grants. In 2021, CAEF awarded $22,000 in grants to 19 programs throughout the Centennial School District. The application window for its larger grant cycle will be Jan. 15-Feb. 28. CAEF plans to bring back its annual Gala in April, which has had to be canceled the past couple of years

because of the ongoing pandemic.

“We are ready to get back at it,” said CAEF President Jesse Bentrup.

This Thanksgiving is expected to see a 13% increase in travelers compared to 2020.

A strong rebound in holiday travel is expected this Thanksgiving.

The Auto Club Group predicts that 53.4 million Americans will travel for the Thanksgiving holiday, up 13% from 2020. This brings travel volumes within 5% of pre-pandemic levels for the 2019 holiday.

The West North Central census region, which includes North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and four other states, will see the greatest share of its population traveling. Nearly one in every five people (19.6%) from the region are expected to travel during the holiday period.

Nationally, 16.2% of the population is expected to travel.

“It’s beginning to look more like a normal holiday travel season, compared to what we saw last year,” said Debbie Haas, vice president of travel for AAA. “Now that U.S. bor-

ders are open, vaccinations are readily available and new health and safety guidelines are in place, travel is once again high on the list for Americans who are ready to reunite with their loved ones for the holidays.”

Busy roads, airports With 6.4 million more Americans traveling this Thanksgiving — the highest single-year increase since 2005 — people should prepare for the roads and airports to be noticeably more crowded than last year’s holiday. AAA predicts

road travel to increase by 8%. Yet the most notable improvement this year’s holiday is domestic air travel, which has almost completely recovered from its dramatic dropoff during the pandemic and is up 80% from last year.

“The re-opening of the U.S. borders to international travelers means airports will be even busier than we’ve recently seen, so travelers must plan for longer lines and extra time for TSA checks,” Haas continued. “With flight delays and cancellations becoming a problem recently, air travelers are encouraged to consider travel insurance. If your flight is cancelled, there are various policies that would help offset unexpected expenses like a hotel, transportation and food. You may also receive compensation for lost luggage or if your flight is delayed for as little as three hours.”

Black Friday, traditionally the single busiest shopping day of the year, arrives a little earlier this year. Many stores are already advertising Black Friday prices. Instead of setting an alarm to brave crowds for deeply discounted items, dedicated shoppers are expected to look for deals online, similar to last year — that is, if they haven't already finished their holiday shopping.

Changes brought about by shipping delays, the ongoing pandemic, hiring challenges and microchip shortages are impacting how people will shop. Retail experts are predicting higher-than-normal crowds in the stores and increased percentages in spending on gifts, decorations and other holiday-related items.

If you do decide to shop in person on Black Friday, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) offers these tips to make your shopping experience productive (and maybe even enjoyable): • Stay safe. Follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines to stay healthy and safe while in the store.

• Make the most of Black Friday deals. Start with a list of items and use sale flyers and promotions to determine which store has the best price. Set a budget and stick with it before heading out.

• Read the fine print. Some retailers may offer an additional percentage off the purchase, but could exclude certain deals or items such as “door busters.” Watch for companies boasting a high percentage off; the item may be “75% off,” but the original price could be inflated.

Carefully check the price tags, terms and conditions. Research online using a secure WiFi connection to see if competitors have the item at a better price.

• Plan out the excursion. Sometimes it's not necessary to wait to see what deals will be offered on Black Friday. Retailers often will release Black Friday flyers weeks ahead of time so consumers can plan out their shopping spree. Make a map of the stores to visit and what items are at which store.

Some retailors only honor sale ads during a certain time frame, or on certain days, and could limit the amount of deeply discounted items available for purchase.

• Sign up for email alerts. Many stores release their best Black Friday deals and exclusive coupons to people who have subscribed to their emails.

Sign up ahead of the holiday season, and then unsubscribe afterward if needed.

• Do your research. Read product reviews on extremely discounted items. It could be a cheaper model or brand advertised, and not what was expected. Check business profi les of the stores and read what other customers have experienced.

• Know the return policy and warranty information. Pass along any information about returns, exchanges, repairs and warranties to the person who will use the item. Gift receipts are an easy way for recipients to return or exchange a gift if it’s not just right, but make sure the item is able to be returned before purchasing.
