Kyle Ward, a senior at Irondale High School and member of the KnightKrawler Robotics Team, uses a 3D printer to print a face shield. Since COVID-19 made its way to Minnesota, the team has set up shop in Chippewa Middle School and used the school’s 3D printers and laser cutters to create personal protective equipment for healthcare and other emergency workers. They have a goal of producing at least 1,000 face shields a week. Supplies and materials are being covered through the Mounds View Schools Education Foundation.

SHOREVIEW — As Mounds View students, families and teachers adapt to distance learning, members of the Mounds View School Board are adapting to teleconference meetings. The board’s April 14 meeting was held via Google Hangouts, which enabled members to attend while following social distancing guidelines amid the COVID-19 pandemic. A resolution to hold future meetings via teleconference until further notice passed unanimously. Superintendent Chris Lennox gave the board an update on distance learning efforts throughout the last month. Those efforts will continue SEE DISTANCE LEARNING, PAGE 7

Funeral homes working to provide families with options Funeral services may look very different these days, but area funeral homes want the community to know that they are still there to help with the grief journey in any way they can. About a month ago, funeral homes were told they could still host services with 50 people or fewer in attendance. If a majority of attendees were in the highrisk category for COVID-19, that number went down to 10. When Gov. Tim Walz initially

issued the stay-at-home order March 27, funeral homes were told to stop offering services. Over the following weekend, that restriction was eased so that funeral homes could continue to be open. Services, however, are limited to 10 people or fewer, a restriction that is in effect until May 4, but may be extended.
