The Vadnais Inn is issuing one last call for beer and burgers. The historic neighborhood bar in Vadnais Heights will close July 28 to make way for the new Rice Street bridge interchange. The bar goes back nearly 100 years. In recent years, it has been run by a couple whose romance budded at the bar. Kris John met her late husband Butch while he was working and she was a patron. He worked at the bar for about 30 years before he passed away two years ago. She has been working at the bar for about 25 years. Over the years and amidst 21st-century development, the bar has retained its local neighborhood feel and has a lot of regular customers. “I’ve met many, many people over the years and it is fun — like family,” John said. On Sunday, regulars gather and play the jukebox. The bar also has pool tables and dart boards. Bartender Ron Lee has been coming to and working at the Vadnais Inn on SEE VADNAIS INN, PAGE 2
