WHITE BEAR LAKE — A few ‘for sale’ signs may be popping up in front of Linden Avenue townhomes. About a half-dozen homeowners said they will likely sell if an apartment complex is built on the corner of County Road E and Linden Avenue. The four-story complex, property owners complained, will bring too much traffic, too much noise, obstruct their view and take parking spots already in short supply. Area residents had a chance to voice their concerns at a public hearing before the Planning Commission Feb. 4. Most, but not all, were opposed to the 189-unit building, referred to as White
Bear Apartments. Minneapolis-based Schafer Richardson, a development and investment company, is under contract to purchase five parcels totaling 4.6 acres from the owners of The Village Sports Bar at the Stadium. The property is adjacent to the restaurant. Planning and zoning coordinator Samantha Crosby introduced the project to the commission, notingthat its proximity to the future Rush Line bus station and Bruce Vento Trail make it “appropriate for higher density, transit-oriented development.” The market-rate rental units are expected to attract a younger popuSEE APARTMENTS, PAGE 9A

Sweetheart moves on the dance floor

Peggy O’Neil Parenteau found out at her wedding that she was marrying her third cousin once removed — but hey, it wasn’t one of her three-and-a-half dozen first cousins. Parenteau’s family roots in the White Bear Lake area extend back to the mid-1800s, history she shared as part of “The Many Faces of White Bear Lake Area” series in Mahtomedi Feb. 5.
