EXPLORE RESPONSIBLY
You made it! Now that you’re here, check out our guide for exploring responsibly. While we could likely make a case for many of these reminders in any season, consider this your starter pack to getting out there safely. Above all, make sure you check out local health guidelines at ExploreWhitefish.com.
SPRING • W hen you’re biking the Going-to-the-Sun Road, remain 25 yards from wildlife, and 100 yards from bears and wolves. Stay in the right lane. • I f a jaunt on the Whitefish Trail system is on your list, it’s best to visit in the morning while the ground is still frozen. Stepping around muddy sections can create lasting trail damage. • P redict spring’s unpredictable weather. Pack food, water, and warm layers, and have a backup plan.
SUMMER • Leave No Trace (that means TP too). • R emember to put out campfires properly! Douse, Stir, Douse and Feel. • Always carry bear spray. • When camping or picnicking, store food in your locked vehicle. • S tep to the side to let speedy hikers pass — prevent bottlenecks on the trail. • W hether driving on dirt or paved roads, slow down and always give pedestrians the right of way.
FALL • S port bright colors when you hit the trail as it’s hunting season. Make sure hunters can tell you’re a human! • Make noise on the trail so you don’t sneak up on any forest friends (yes, bears!). They are heads down stocking up on nutrients. • O bey seasonal closures in Glacier National Park. Gates are there for your safety.
WINTER • B ring a face covering for your days on Whitefish Mountain Resort. • H op on the S.N.O.W bus or walk to your destination whenever possible. • S nag an uphill pass before you embark on the Whitefish Mountain Resort skin track, and follow the route signs! • C heck out Flathead Avalanche Center for all your backcountry planning. • Safety courses are also available throughout the fall and winter.
