ADDIE USE

"Everyone is unique and beautiful in their own way." Maddie Ziegler is an 18-year-old American dancer, actress, author, and model. Maddie has been chosen as a Dior Brand Ambassador for the newest denim collection. Maddie is the perfect ambassador for Dior since her visual language aligns perfectly with the Dior brand as she shares the same beliefs as Maria Grazia Chuiri, the current Artistic Director. Maria Grazia Chiuri has many beliefs that she has

introduced to the house of Dior as themes of collections and traditions that underpin the houses creative direction. Two of these themes being active women and feminism. Maddies role as an active woman is seen through her devotion to dance since the age of 2 along with her strong feminism beliefs that she had demonstrated through her social media platforms and roles in various different films and music videos.

Maria Grazia Chuiri has been the creative director at Dior since 2016, when she took over the role from Raf Simmons. Maria was born in 1964 in Rome, where she grew up. Her father was in the military and her mother was a dressmaker.

Maria made history by becoming the first female artistic director of Dior. In Maria’s role at Dior she focuses heavily on feminism, which is reflected through her designs and she believes that “The new generation has raised big questions about

gender, race, environment and cultures that we have to reflect in fashion,”. Maria’s has also taken on reinterpreting the Dior silhouette from a new point of view, which she has successfully achieved, and continues to do so.

Denim.

Dior

Denim has become a staple at Dior since the first introduction of denim to the brand. Dior has since adopted denim in a large portion of the Dior ready to wear garments we see today, many of which have become signature styles. There has been an evolution of denim throughout the house’s history as we have seen it in suits, dresses, shirts, pants and accessories. Dior makes a concious effort to do all they can to help reduce the water needed to produce denim. On average it takes 7600 litres of water to produce

one single pair of jeans. One of the brands goals at Dior is to develop denim from a more environmentally friendly production output, by using sustainably-sourced materials and implementing foam-dyeing technology, which eliminates almost 100 percent of the water typically used in the process. The technology uses foam to transfer dye onto yarns, therefore entirely replacing the water vats and chemical baths that are needed in the conventional dyeing process.

DIOR LEGACY

D Christian Dior was a French couturier, who came to be the first fashion designer featured on the front cover of the Times magazine. He founded the house of Christian Dior on December 16, 1946, however, it wasn’t until February 12, 1947, that Dior showcased his debut collection. Dior’s focus on the

feminine silhouette was one of his most crucial moves, as he is now renowned for his focus on the hourglass figure. The commercial success of his post-war feminine designs saw a rise in popularity and demand for his works, making the opulent skirt and gown designs some of his most iconic styles.

Dior key Shapes

The creation and introduction of the bar suit in 1947 saw yet another design become an icon of the brand today.

In the same way that Chrisitian Dior’s hourglass gowns highlighted the female silhouette, so too did his bar jacket. The jacket was padded at the hipline for a more rounded, feminine shape and was crafted in ivory silk. The bar jacket is a signature style of Dior that has made a comeback and is still featured in most Dior collections to this day, in a reimagined and reinterpreted way. Alongside the bar jacket there are a range of other silhouettes and artistic influences that are still featured today, including Lascaux cave paintings that served as inspiration to Christian Dior himself in 1951.
