Located near Inverness of the banks of the Moray Firth and Your Golfer Magazine’s favoured course in the region, the Royal Burgh of Fortrose & Rosemarkie is an outstandingly beautiful location for a golf course. Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club’s 18-hole layout is uniquely set within the narrow Chanonry Peninsula instantly admired by visiting groups.
Recognised as the 15th oldest golf club in the world, golf was first played in the Fortrose area as far back as 1702 and golf on the land that Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club is now set can be tracked back to the formulation of the Fortrose Golf Society which was founded in July 1793.
By the end of 1888 the golf club had a membership of 50 members. Although the first competitions were not held at Fortrose & Rosemarkie in 1922 following the resurgence of the game.
In 1932, world renowned golf course architect, James Braid was invited to advise on a new course layout with further land being acquired. Over the next two years, more land was purchased which led to Braid being invited to carry out a further survey on the land and its use as an eighteen hole golf course.
In the mid-1950s, the Club had outgrown its facilities and the new clubhouse was planned. This clubhouse was further extended in 1983 to the building that can be enjoyed by members and visitors today.

Fortrose’s breath-taking scenery is emphasised by a Dolphin colony in the adjacent firth which can be seen from the course which is also visited by an abundance of local wildlife including Kestrel which is commonly seen patrolling the 8th hole.
The clubhouse features a relaxing bar, dining room and comfortable lounge spaces with majestic, panoramic views of the Moray Firth from its large windows. Lunches are served daily and all manner of social occasions are catered for through varied menus which can be tailored prior to an event.
