WNZ: YOU GUYS RECENTLY RELEASED A NEW SINGLE, “CLOUDWALKER.” HOW HAS THE RECEPTION BEEN TO THE NEW
INTERVIEW BY \\ SINGLE? DANIELLE GITTLEMAN The feedback we’ve gotten on “Cloudwalker” has been crazy! It’s always cool to see strangers on the internet promoting and jamming your music. It makes us excited to release even more music, we are really thankful for and inspired by the way things have gone with our first real release so thank you to anyone who has consistently jammed our lil tune! WNZ: ARE YOU GUYS WORKING ON ANY NEW MUSIC AT ALL? WHAT CAN FANS EXPECT FROM YOU? We are working on things. We are currently in the process of recording an EP that should be released late this year or early next year! In the meantime, we do have two singles and at least two more music videos on the way that should be out around fall time. WNZ: WHAT’S YOUR WRITING AND RECORDING PROCESS LIKE? CAN YOU WALK US THROUGH IT? Kalani and I are literally always writing separately, I have a whole google drive folder with like a trillion pages of completed song lyrics and Grady will send me a demo or text me and ask me how I feel at that current moment then send me a demo to fit the mood, then I write melody over it, then we jam all together as a band and see where it goes from there! Everything we write is organic and written on instruments first which I guess is sort of becoming the obsolete way to write in the digital age. WNZ: HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE SO SUCCESSFUL AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE? It’s cool to know people think we are successful. It this is success though, It’s awful! Stressful! Wack! In all seriousness, it’s been a very humbling and eye-opening three years for us. I was literally 15 when we started this and I was a totally different person then, obviously. Getting through high-school was tough what with all the writing songs, going on tours, recording out of town, playing live shows for people literally my age and. It was very draining most of the time and every single thing we did felt like a due to pay but it was for sure worth it for a lot of reasons. We have met so many amazing people and created so much art and excitement for ourselves in such a short time. To be graduated from high school for only a year and have accomplished everything we have accomplished as a band is something I WHITENOISEZINE.COM

WNZ: YOU GUYS RELEASED YOUR EP, SELL YOUR HEART IN NOVEMBER. HOW HAS THE RECEPTION BEEN SINCE THE RELEASE?
INTERVIEW BY \\ The reception has been fantastic! We have been receiving great reviews DANIELLE GITTLEMAN from people all around the US and world. We could not be more satisfied
with the level of quality and criticism has been constrictive which helps us in our effort to continually improve for our next music. WNZ: EVEN THOUGH YOU RECENTLY RELEASED AN EP, ARE YOU GUYS WORKING ON ANY OTHER NEW MUSIC? Of course! We have been playing a lot of shows as of late but our writing process is non-stop. We won’t give specific dates but we would love to have something new for everyone as soon as we feel it is time. Maybe... a year or two from now? WNZ: WHAT’S YOUR WRITING AND RECORDING PROCESS LIKE? CAN YOU WALK US THROUGH IT? Our writing process generally starts with Tony (Bass) and or Austin (vocals) coming up with a subject matter, discussing together, then over time lyrics begin to take form. Then, that material is taken to Aaron (Guitar) who really livens the riffs. He has always had a knack for that. Gabe (drums) usually gets the barebones songs just to get an idea of what we are working toward. Always a great idea to have thoughts running in the back of your mind even though he may not be behind a kit. We usually jam full band and then take the newly formed songs to our producer, Gabe Swartz, to begin the demo process and on to recording. We have assembled a great team of Gabe Swartz (Engine Room Recording), Steve Perrino (Compass Audio) and Jay Maas (Jay Maas Recording). Having people that truly care about our music has been a large reason we have made it this far. WNZ: WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR INSPIRATIONS WHEN IT COMES TO MAKING MUSIC? Our inspirations come from our personal experiences with our family, past relationships and much more. Recently we decided it is time to become more vocal in regards to what is going on in the world so prepare for some CYS political opinions! But don’t let that deter you from the fact we want to stay morally just. We want everyone to be treated well so we’re going to do our best to make our music come from a balanced viewpoint.

WNZ: YOU GUYS JUST RELEASED A NEW SINGLE, “FIRESTARTER.” HOW HAS THE RECEPTION BEEN SO FAR?
INTERVIEW BY \\ Pretty great! It’s the first song on the EP, so it’s cool to see people getting to DANIELLE GITTLEMAN hear it and enjoy it. WNZ: YOU GUYS HAVE MENTIONED THAT YOU HAVE AN EP, BODY WARS COMING OUT IN AUGUST. WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT IT? WHAT CAN FANS EXPECT? It’s been a long time in the making and that record has seen quite the journey. We experimented a lot with it, and it’s definitely a turning point for us as artists. WNZ: DO YOU FEEL LIKE “FIRESTARTER” REALLY SETS THE TONE FOR THE ALBUM? HOW SO? The song introduces some new sounds and ideas for us right off the bat. Lyrically, it sets up the tumultuous theme of the record too. Musically, I always felt that it just kind of has that feel of an opening track. WNZ: WHAT’S YOUR WRITING AND RECORDING PROCESS LIKE? CAN YOU WALK US THROUGH IT? Usually, I get the ideas for a song all in one sudden thought. I may have been sitting on a topic I wanted to write about for a bit, and suddenly the entire song hits me all at once. I love it when a song works itself out like that. When I’m feeling less inspired, I’ll have to tinker around though. Sometimes a song is born from something one of the guys came up with. Firestarter was created that way, actually. Keith had that electronic drum beat you hear in the verse, and we ran with it from there. It’s a blast to write songs that way too. Recording is always a long process, but with Body Wars, we were pretty well-prepared because we had demoed the entire thing pretty in-depth beforehand while writing it. A few things like vocal samples or keyboard effects from the demos actually made it onto the actual record. WNZ: WHAT ARE SOME INSPIRATIONS BEHIND YOUR NEWEST EP? We really searched outside our original comfort zones for this EP. We opened our minds to a lot of stuff and we embraced some challenges and changes. We looked to more indie/alt stuff like Atlas Genius and Cold War Kids, and we looked to more electronic stuff like Twentyone Pilots, Chvrches or Pvris. Lyrically, the inspiration behind the record is being at war with yourself, but accepting that battle in an effort to overcome it. I think the title WHITENOISEZINE.COM

Some different versions of the songs off Body Wars might surface too- but I don’t want to say too much about that just yet.
understood why gender factored into it at all. I still don’t. I tried speaking out about it, and would get shushed — even by other women. It was a tough time. Good news is that it’s changing now for sure. To quote Unbreakble Kimmy Schmidt, “females are strong as hell,” and to see more and more talented female artists break through the industry proves that statement’s accuracy. We are strong, and we are damn good artists, so you can’t keep us in a box for long. The attitude towards women in general has a long way to go, but I’m so glad to see it’s starting to change. WNZ: IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO TELL YOUR FANS? First of all, whether you’ve been following us for a while or just finding us now, thank you! WNZ: WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE “CLOWNIN” AS THE FIRST SINGLE
INTERVIEW BY \\ CASEY WOLFE
Because it captures the overall sound the best! We thought about doing
ON THE NEW ALBUM? “Adrenaline” first, but this is a better first listen for people who aren’t familiar with our sound. WNZ: WHERE DID THE INSPIRATION FOR THE SONG COME FROM? In 2016 there were an abnormal number of clown sightings that the news circuit was reporting on. These sightings were being reported on and the way they were covered was absolutely terrifying - They were stalking, intimidating, and luring kids into the woods. Honestly, I’m sure they did actually attack people but the news wanted to find the scariest footage possible and post it. I think a lot of the videos are staged by people who just want to be on the news. So I wrote the song to lean in to that narrative, that the news is stoking fear in the American public and it’s causing people to be violent without knowing why people are doing it. WNZ: WHAT DO YOU HOPE FANS WILL TAKE AWAY FROM THE ALBUM? Everyone has different experiences with music but for me these songs are ones that get my heart pumping and make me feel alive. There’s nothing more exciting and stimulating than good guitar music. Hopefully, we’re providing that and we’d love to show that to people who are new to the genre. This being the last Warped Tour has brought lots of new fans who were on the fence about getting into a genre that wasn’t as popular but people went and are super into it now. We’d like to keep that going. WNZ: WHO AND WHAT ARE YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES? As individuals, our influences vary widely. As a band, Goldfinger, Blink-182, and Sum 41. We’ve been inspired with Knuckle Puck and Neck Deep. WNZ: ARE THERE ANY FUTURE PLANS FOR VICTORY KID? We’ve got a tour to Seattle to play Hempfest on August 19th! We’ve also got another full EP, more singles, music videos, and content coming soon. WNZ: IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WANT TO TELL LISTENERS? Talk to us! For their sixth full-length album, We The Kings uses Six to both
pay homage to the band’s old work and bring some of 2018 to their sound. Between going back to basics and experimenting with their sound, at this point We The Kings knows who they are and what they do best. Six is full of typical We The Kings songs and We The Kings versions of trends in sound.
Opening the album is one of the best and most genuine-sounding
tracks on the album, “On My Love.” It’s full of sweet lyrics, and vocalist
WE THE KINGS // SIX WORDS BY \\ EMILY KLINGMAN TOP TRACKS // “ON MY LOVE” “THE OCEAN AND THE SUN” “EVEN IF IT KILLS ME”
Travis Clark uses the songs simplicity and straightforward pop to bring an earnestness to the track. The album’s next track, “The Ocean and The Sun” is another pure pop track. Featuring one of the catchiest hooks on Six, the chorus ends with “you and I are ocean and the sun” and has an instrumental pairing that won’t easily leave listeners.
While We The Kings excels with their first two tracks, the rest too
easily get muddled together on Six. The only times a track stands out is when the band steers too off course and their experimental bits fall apart. There’s a good beat, in “Mama Knows Best,” but the lyrics don’t support the strength of the track’s instrumentals. It sounds like it should be paired with a different kind of cathartic, not with a narrative of how “mama” was right about a girl who was bad news. In the track “Immortal,” the chorus is strong, but its

weakness is in the band’s experiment with rap. The verses are rapped not sung, and Clark does it well enough, but falls short still.
Overall, Six comes across as an average album from We The Kings.
It’s not anything that would disappoint the band’s strong fanbase, and the tracks sound like We The Kings songs for when a person just wants to listen to We The Kings. The band blended their pop-sound with some of 2018’s pop trends to create an album of modernized We The Kings songs.

In 2017, Miss Fortune announced they were taking a break from
music. Now, they are back with their new record How the Story Ends.
How the Story Ends is very exploratory in nature. It crosses several
genres and touches on multiple topics. These ideas combine to form an unexpected blend of rhythm, lyrics, and sound.
The album kicks off with “Delusions of Grandeur.” It delivers the
classic post-hardcore clean vocals that scene has come to know and love.
MISS FORTUNE // HOW THE STORY ENDS WORDS BY \\ KIYA GASKIN TOP TRACKS // “DELUSIONS OF GRANDEUR” “WEDDING NIGHT” “HIT THE ROAD”
This was followed by “The Hype You Stole,” which sounded more like an extension of the opening track than its own song. The similarities in both songs initially made the album sound onenote and under developed.
“Wedding Night” is where the album took a turn and hit its peak.
Although the title may lead you to believe this is going to be a sweet song, this is actually the heaviest track on the whole album. The unclean vocals in “Wedding Night” add a dark twist, which unfortunately was missing from the other songs. This is by far the best song on the album because the band seemed to click with its style.
“My Apologies II” and “Hit the Road” played to the band’s softer side.
These songs showed Miss Fortune’s versatility, but “Hit the Road” was so different from the other songs on the record that it felt out of place.
Miss Fortune’s new album tries to go in several directions all at
once. And while that is not inherently bad, the lack of continuity between songs makes it hard to follow. Each song is great in its own right; however, collectively this record could have been better executed.
It is obvious Miss Fortune is still trying to find their niche within the
scene. Whatever direction they choose will be great; it will be interesting to see what they choose to do.

Yungblood slows it down just slightly with “Kill Somebody.” It has

Last on the album is the title track, “21st Century Liability.” It’s edgy
