he new Generations playground opened this fall in Centennial Park, bringing the entire community together in a welcoming green space created for healthy activity. From age and ability-specific play structures to outdoor exercise equipment, benches and shady areas to rest, this new playground is the ideal gathering space for everyone who calls White Rock and South Surrey home. When it comes to “playing” outside, usually the first thought is a child running around a playground, but
Peace Arch Hospital Foundation and the City of White Rock want to change that perception! Play is equally important for adults and seniors as it is for kids and this new playground has something for everybody. Children with disabilities can play alongside their able-bodied peers and adults and seniors can get fit with the innovative outdoor exercise stations. There are even two zip lines side by side – one accessible and one able-bodied – so that friends and family members can zip together in a friendly competition. If you’ve always wanted to try out a zip line, here’s your chance!

Ball, Core, Balance, Stretch: this class involves 30 minutes of a wide range of exercises using the ball and one’s own body weight to activate the deep, most internal layers of muscles of the body. By performing movements and purposely placing ourselves in a ‘proprioceptive enriched environment’ (unstable, unbalanced yet controlled) we will be building from the inside out and laying down a strong foundation. The class ends with stretching and deep breathing exercises to restore balance and relax the entire body.
