The Museum offers changing exhibits and programs that interpret regional and local history and challenges visitors to think about the future as well as the past.

Pier into White Rock’s past We all know that as a city, White Rock is peerless. But it sure isn’t pierless! The pier we all know today was originally built in the summers of 1914 and 1915 but it was actually the third pier to grace the shores of Semiahmoo Bay. The second pier, built in 1913 for the Campbell River Lumber Company was near the mouth of the Little Campbell River. All that remains of it are stumps of pilings, which you can see at low tide. White Rock’s very first pier, built about 1910 or 1911 was part of the White Rock Bath and Boat House located just east of the rock right on the beach. This 1912 photo shows the boat house and the walkway out to the pier which was a series of pilings and floating planks about 300 feet long. At the boat house you could rent a rowboat and bathing suit, and order a sandwich and a cup of tea for a perfect day at the beach.

What is Jumpstart? Jumpstart Charities gives kids a sporting chance. Kids aged 4 to 18 years from families in financial need can receive funding to help with registration fees. Participating in sport helps kids develop physical and social skills. It helps build self-esteem. By helping kids get into the game, we’re equipping them with determination. And we’re giving them confidence.

Does my child qualify? Families must meet financial need criteria in order to qualify for Jumpstart funding. Jumpstart follows Revenue Canada’s Low Income Cut-offs (LICOs) which are based on a family’s size, the size of their community and the total family unit income (before tax).

Where do I apply? Jumpstart funding application forms are available online at www.whiterockcity.ca and at each of our recreation centres: White Rock Community Centre (15154 Russell Ave.)

Cost: $149 up to 20 children
