The Last Supper Leonardo Da Vinci The Masterpiece revealed through High Technology Edited by Haltadefinizione Preface by Franco Giulio Brambilla Text by Domenico Sguaitamatti
208 pages • 29.5 x 36.5 cm 140 color photographs Hardcover with jacket 978 88 544 0762 6
When Leonardo da Vinci began laying the first brushstrokes, in 1494, he probably had no idea he was about to create one of the greatest artistic masterpieces of all time. Adopting the innovative dry painting technique, the Renaissance genius could not foresee that he would have condemned his work to a particular fragility, and put its conservation at risk in the following centuries. This same technique, however, was what allowed an improved chromatic unity, a rendering of transparencies and light effects, and an extreme precision in details, visible only from close range. Today, thanks to the exclusive magnification published in this volume, even the smallest details of the Last Supper, invisible to the naked eye, can be observed in all their expressive splendor. As you leaf through this book you can admire from up close, as never before possible, the realistic expressions on the faces of the individual Apostles, the movements and positions of their hands, and the smallest details of the outfitted table, thus entering practically into direct contact with Leonardo’s genius at work. FRANCO GIULIO BRAMBILLA is a member of the CEI Episcopal Committee for the Doctrine of the Faith and the Catechism.

Orchids Photographs by Fabio Petroni Text by Anna Maria Botticelli Bewitching, sensual, disturbing: orchids, whose natural species number over 25,000, have forever sparked overwhelming love. Cartier took inspiration from the exquisite blossoms of the Phalaenopsis to create a precious collection of jewels. The volcanic British stylist Vivienne Westwood mixes them extravagantly, in the living room of her home, with paintings and books. One of the most prestigious fashion houses in France, Van Cleef & Arpels, chose one, the Vanilla fragrans, for its very famous and unmistakable perfume. Illustrious personages, artists, and adventurers, dressed in the garb of enterprising plant hunters, have gone round the world in search of them, bringing them back to the West. Important entrepreneurs have become fanatic collectors of them... It is not unusual, then, for even a master photographer like Fabio Petroni to be so deeply struck: he decided to portray them in still-lifes, to present us with close-ups, macros, and details of great charm and appeal. 208 pages • 25.5 x 34.5 cm Hardcover with jacket 978 88 544 0765 7
Roses Photographs by Fabio Petroni Text by Natalia Fedeli “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet,” wrote William Shakespeare. And many other poets and writers have dedicated lines to these beautiful flowers that have always adorned and embellished gardens and houses. Wonderful petals, a thorny stem, warm but at the same time delicate colours and an enchanting and intoxicating fragrance. These are the secrets of the rose, of which, however, the true essence remains elusive. A master of still life photography, Fabio Petroni, has turned his attention to roses in all their infinite manifestations. Through his lens, he has endeavoured to capture those aspects and details that make this flower, the symbol of love, grace, and the most intimate secrets, unique. Spectacular pictures, an elegant editorial format, wonderful close-ups and a final section that features the history and characteristics of the varieties of roses photographed. These are the secrets of this large-format publication, in which roses are the absolute protagonists and in which the pages merge with the petals.

A Matter of Fashion 20 Iconic Items that Changed the History of Style Edited by Valeria Manferto De Fabianis Preface by Alberta Ferretti, text by Federico Rocca One usually thinks of the fashion world as ephemeral, but there are creations and names that have left their mark and that, in different ways, have revolutionized the history of fashion and have also mirrored the changes made in society. Indeed, nothing has been the same since the birth of the Burberry trench coat, ballerina pumps or Givenchy’s black sheath dress. Every couturier, fashion designer or fast fashion stylist has had to come to terms with their existence by referring to, elaborating on or simply copying what are now considered classics. Some of these are known by the name of a person, such as the Kelly bag or Borsalino hat. Others have existed for decades, even taking on sociopolitical connotations (for example, Levi’s, which were originally work trousers, became the “uniform” of the young rebels in the 1960s). Yet others, such as the Hermès scarves, continue to be a status symbol. This book presents the history, anecdotes, celebrities and intrinsic values connected to the must haves of fashion. 224 pages • 25.5 x 29.5 cm Flexibound with flaps and jacket Cult and fashion 978 88 544 0650 6

This book is an extraordinary photographic collection of women who have marked the history of fashion, from film stars such as Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn to controversial characters like Lady Diana and Coco Chanel. These women helped revolutionize the concept of femininity and, through their personalities and the events in their private lives, featured prominently in the media for years. Stories of unforgettable lives and intimate portraits are celebrated in a book without precedent.

Mick Jagger Edited by Valeria Manferto De Fabianis Text by Billy J. Altman
208 pages • 25.5 x 29.5 cm • 140 color photographs Hardcover with jacket 978 88 544 0763 3
There may have been musical rebels like Elvis Presley before him, but once Mick Jagger first burst on the scene in 1962 as lead singer for England’s convention-defying Rolling Stones, the mold was broken once and for all. Even fifty years later, his singing and performing style is still the benchmark against which all rock ’n’ roll frontmen are measured. And with good reason: Jagger’s distinctive, malleable voice and preening, prancing antics onstage have yet to be duplicated, let alone equaled or surpassed. Together with his childhood and lifelong “Glimmer Twin” pal, guitarist Keith Richards, chief Stones lyricist Jagger has co-written countless indelible rock and roll classics. Meanwhile, his reputation as a globe-hopping Don Juanesque lover have made him a simultaneously cursed, envied and admired international sex symbol. Remarkably, now seventy years old, Jagger is still going strong on all fronts – and with all his unique cheekiness and take-no-prisoners attitude gloriously intact. The ultimate “Midnight Rambler” rock ’n’ roll rebel. VALERIA MANFERTO DE FABIANIS is an expert in photograph editing and the creation of images and has edited many books on photography. She has also conceived and mounted photographic exhibitions that enjoyed a great deal of success in various cities and foreign capitals. BILLY ALTMAN is a Grammy-nominated music critic and historian whose work has appeared in such places as “The New York Times”, “The New Yorker”, “Rolling Stone”, “Esquire” and “Spin”. A former curator for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and a consultant to the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, he teaches rock, folk and jazz history courses in the Humanities Department of the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

Masters of Rock Guitar Foreword by Joe Satriani, Preface by Adrian Belew Text by Ernesto Assante The guitar has always been a protagonist of extraordinary pages of jazz history, it was the queen of folk and blues, and in its electric embodiment, it was the basic stone of rock’n’roll. We want to celebrate the electric guitar myth and legend, the extraordinary instrument that turned into a key to open the doors of sensation, creativity and of life itself. Lots of figures have contributed to this history: legendary musicians as Chuck Berry, B.B. King, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Brian May, Eric Clapton, Santana, Ben Harper, Jimi Hendrix. This volume is a handsomely illustrated tribute to the instruments that have earned these guitarists their reputations as some of the greatest musicians of all time, this volume will strike a chord with music enthusiasts of all ages.

Legends of Jazz Preface by Joe Lovano Text by Bill Milkowski Arguably America’s most profound cultural contribution, jazz has evolved for over a hundred years since its birth in the ethnic gumbo of New Orleans at the dawn of the 20th century. Like a mighty river, it has wended its way over time through geography, style, and mood, forming numerous tributaries along the way. This elegant volume is a portrait gallery of 50 eminent legends spanning jazz history, from Jelly Roll Morton, perhaps the inventor of the art form, to contemporary axman Joe Lovano, who contributes a foreword. Each figure is featured in handsome vintage photographs and a pithy, revealing biography.

Tragedies and Mysteries of Rock’n’Roll Text by Michele Primi John Lennon said: “We’re going to live, or we’re going to die. If we’re dead, we’re going to have to deal with that. If we’re alive, we’re going to have to deal with being alive.” Is there a curse on Rock ’n’ Roll? Is talent so powerful that it destroys? The death of one of the purest musical talents in recent years, Amy Winehouse, has reopened this and many other questions. The “Club 27” really does exist, and it includes some of the best musicians of all time, very young adults who created works of art but who were themselves overwhelmed by art. This volume tells their story: from the first, Robert Johnson, who is said to have sold his soul to the devil for the gift of Blues, on to Ian Curtis and Kurt Cobain, and passing through the runaway lives of Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix, the mysterious death of Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, and the fatality of “the day the music died” in 1959, when Buddy Holly’s airplane crashed. There is suicide as the only way to affirm oneself; there is transgression taken to extremes; there is mystery and senseless evil, manifesting in the pistol shot that killed John Lennon. There are stories that read like a detective thriller, like those of Bobby Fuller or Jim Morrison, and the touching human story of Freddie Mercury; there are Bob Marley, Keith Moon, and the absurd destiny that binds Tim and Jeff Buckley; but above all there is a lot of great Rock music. Because, as Neil Young sings in Hey Hey My My, “Rock’n’roll is here to stay. It’s better to burn out than to fade away.”

Enzo Ferrari began working with automobiles in 1918, first as a tester, then as a driver and eventually as team manager. But it was only in 1947, with the 125S, that his career as an automaker began, but in the space of only a few years he would have brought his name to the attention of the world, making it one of the most important in the history of the automobile. Under his guidance and with his inspiration, the Maranello company has produced innumerable masterpieces and his spiritual inheritance was fully carried on by those who succeeded him in leading Ferrari. This is an innovative editorial concept made by a 40-pages little book that retraces the fundamental stages of the evolution of the “Prancing Horse”, and a folded book with 20 sheets bringing together the 40 most representative Ferrari. In each page the text, accompanied by accurate rendering and detailed technical information, will lead the reader through time, in a fascinating journey amidst noise, curiosities, anecdotes and accounts. SAVERIO VILLA was drawn since childhood to automobiles and fascinated by their technology, and he made a career of this passion, as a contributor to “Auto”, “Auto Tecnica”, “Automobilismo”, “Starter” and, later, the weekly “Auto Oggi”, where he worked his way up to become editor. Today he contributes to numerous publications, including “Corriere della Sera”, “Auto” and “Autosprint”, he is editorial director of Yellow TV, the web weekly Autorama, and of the press agency Asapress. The Golden Era of Classic Cars From the Beginning of 1900 to the End of the Sixties Spring 2015 Text by Sebastiano Salvetti There are automobiles that left no trace of their passing; they slipped into anonymity almost as though they had never existed, vanished like snow in the sun, swept away by the succession of models, version and generations. And then, instead, there are vehicles that made history, stirring the souls and thrilling the hearts not just of enthusiasts, but also the wider public. Milestones of automobiles; reference points for design, performance and fascination. Real icons of technology. Immortals. This book is dedicated to these jewels on four wheels, produced from the start of the 1900s up to the ’60s – one of the greatest periods ever from the point of view of creativity and engineering advances. Like stroking the pearls that make up a necklace, thanks to its exciting images, anecdotes, curiosities and detailed technical analysis, this book accompanies the reader through time, looking at the 80 models that were most characteristic of the first 70 years of the 20th century.

SEBASTIANO SALVETTI has always been fascinated by apparently very different worlds, those of automobiles and mountains, both of which he turned into a profession thanks to his passion for technology and his research into materials. Having graduated in law and become a professional journalist, he worked with the outdoor sports monthly “Montebianco” and for seven years on the magazine “Automobilismo”, specializing in test drives, tuning and off-road. After a spell as technical director at Ski-alper, the only European magazine specializing in Alpine skiing, he now works with automobiles on the portal Red-live.it, the magazines “Gente Motori”, “Auto&Fuoristrada” and “Gente Motori Classic” as well as the bimonthly “Motori Agricoli” and the websites gazzetta.it and ilgiornale.it.

Dream Cars of the 21st Century Photographs by Ron Kimball Text by Massimo Mambretti
208 pages • 38.5 x 27.5 cm Hardcover with jacket 978 88 544 0778 7
It seduces both men and women indifferently, especially when it is powerful and luxurious. Even more when it is unique, or nearly so. The specimen of the high-end luxury car is not only the utmost interpretation on the theme of the automobile, but it is also the inspiring Muse for the creativity and skills of designers and engineers, as well as the dream of all enthusiasts. There never passes a year, nor even a month, without new award-winning supercars coming out. And it matters little whether it is a One-Off, a specimen Just For The Few, For Many But Not For All, or an Instant Classic. Still, it could be the interpretation of concepts destined to exalt its performance – like the lightness of a Featherweight – or to generate (today), with their concept outfitting, automobiles that Will Be Famous. The images and texts in this volume recount the stories of the most important supercars of the last decade. A roundup that entrusts the automobile with what is, perhaps, the best of all roles: that of arousing emotions. RON KIMBALL is an internationally renowned photographer specializing in the automotive industry. A remarkable number of exotic autos have been scrutinized in his studio, from the last concept cars to the classic autos of the 1950s. Through his unwavering gaze, Ron Kimball’s photography makes each snapshot a work of art. For over 30 years, his works have been published worldwide. He has authored publicity campaigns, calendars, product packaging, greeting cards, posters and books. His splendid photos appear frequently on numerous magazines such as “Time”, “Newsweek”, “Business Week”, “Auto Trader Magazine”, “Condé Nast Traveler”, “National Geographic” and “Car and Driver”. MASSIMO MAMBRETTI debuted in the publishing sector as a writer for the “Gazzetta dello Sport”. In 1980, he became a member of the editorial staff of the “Quattroruote” magazine. He then transferred to “Gente Motori” magazine and at the turn of the 1980s was made a special correspondent for the weekly magazine “Auto Oggi”. In 1997, choosing to continue as a freelance professional besides being engaged in editorial activities, he became Press Office Director of the Bologna Motor Show and the Auto Salon of Turin. He subsequently returned to full-time work in the publishing sector and currently collaborates with the newspapers “Il Giornale” and “Sole 24” Ore as well as the magazines “Automobilismo” and “La Mia Auto”.

Automobiles Elegance on Wheels Photographs by Ron Kimball Text by Matt DeLorenzo This volume is a fabulous photographic catalogue of a range of important and influential models over a century of automobile history. The vehicles presented in these pages are unrivalled design objects even today. Detailed studio images taken by one of the world’s most famous automobile photographers dramatically present the exceptional characteristics that make each car a work of art, while the brief yet incisive commentary narrates the background and the anecdotes associated with each model. Motorcycles The legendary models Text by Andrea Rapelli This book aims to trace the fundamental stages of the evolution of the motorcycle, from the first rudimentary experiments on two wheels, up to the hypertrophic motorcycle of today. And always with a choice of models that have succeeded in marking an era: from the first rattling Harley-Davidson of the 20th century to the jewels of Japanese technology, the Honda and Kawasaki from the 1970s and 1980s, passing through the no less important columns of Italian motorcycling, such as the Ducati 916 or the Guzzi GT 500 Norge, and continuing on to the models just out on the market. A trip through time – outfitted with splendid images, detailed diagrams, and data sheets – that will lead bike enthusiasts through the sounds and smells, the anecdotes and tales, to the purest essence of motorcycling. ANDREA RAPELLI started to write for “Panoramauto” and “EVO Italia”, where he still works today. Currently, he also works for the website motorbox.com and for the monthly “Autorama”, where he is engaged mainly with road tests.

Legendary Sailboats Beken of Cowes New
Foreword by Kenneth Beken Text by Bruno Cianci The history of sailing photography, since its earliest beginnings, has been linked to the Beken family. Alfred Edward Beken and his son Frank started taking photos of yachts in 1888, when they moved to Cowes on the Isle of White, renowned even then for racing. They developed a refined technique that, in just a few years, would make them renowned in the sailing world. More than a century later the Beken archive, a truly unique collection, consists of more than 200,000 photographs of incalculable value, from precious, historical black and white plates to high-quality and technically perfect contemporary digital photos. Through an amazing selection of historic images from the Beken collection, ranging from the late 19th century to the 1930s, this volume brings together some of the most intense and beautiful portraits of vintage yachts ever to have sailed in the Solent. Accompanied by a detailed and informative commentary by Bruno Cianci, these legendary images take the reader on a journey through time, to discover the fascinating world of sailing and marine photography in times past. The BEKENS began their love affair with marine photography in 1888, when Alfred Edward (1855-1915) moved from Canterbury (Kent) to the Isle of Wight with his son Frank (1880-1970). He purchased a pharmacy in Birmingham Road in the seaport of Cowes, a town that was already famous for international yacht racing and for the world’s oldest regular regatta, the renowned Cowes Week. Alfred and young Frank started shooting photographs to capture sailing yachts at their best and racing yachts in action, a real challenge at that time. These beautiful photographs started being sold in the pharmacy as souvenirs, and in the space of a few years they caught the attention of the world of yacht racing and sailing aficionados, earning the Beken family followers across the globe. Queen Victoria, King George V, and most recently the Duke of Edinburgh awarded the company a Royal Warrant for excellence.

Finger Food 100 Tasty Recipes to Enjoy with your Favorite Cocktails New Edited by Academia Barilla Eating habits, like times and customs, are in a state of continual transformation or, we might say, of updating. The rite of the aperitif, whose origins can be traced back to the 19th century, has become well-established in recent years. Over time, it has gone from being a simple more-or-less alcoholic drink, accompanied by nibbles with the aim of ‘opening’ the stomach and stimulating the appetite, to an increasingly structured affair, to which new elements have gradually been added such as pasta dishes, salads, hot or cold main courses and desserts. Elaborate finger foods, ethnic recipes, and updated traditional dishes have become the undisputed stars of the happy hour at the counters of trendy bars. These minute delicacies have become the basis of real ‘dinners’ for friends, testifying to a new way of living and the pleasure of spending time in good company. This book will help the readers prepare both simple and elaborate but always delicious recipes, taking them through the creation of tasty ideas to astonish their guests with a fashionable aperitif. An appendix by successful barmen includes the recipes for the classic cocktails to accompany the food.

I love Pasta An italian love story in 100 recipes Edited by Academia Barilla
272 pages • 20 x 26.5 cm Hardcover with slipcase 978 88 544 0784 8
With pasta, it is love at first sight… or perhaps we should say love at first bite. It is a love that continues due to pasta’s infinite variety of shapes, colors, scents and flavors. There are countless stories, styles, techniques and condiments. From spaghetti with tomato sauce, the epitome of simplicity and elegance, to delicious oven-baked cannelloni, pasta breaks all world records for taste and creativity, both in Italy, where it is a national monument, and abroad, where it has conquered tables and lifestyles across the board. As any pasta lover knows, to reach the height of pleasure, each pasta shape – and the Italian cuisine boasts countless varieties – must find its “twin sauce” in order to enhance it to the fullest. This recipe book stems from the desire to relate how the personality of each shape, made up of weight, structure, thickness and surface, makes it best suited to the sauce that, in the annals of history, has shown greater gastronomic affinity with its nature. One hundred recipes recount as many successful love affairs. Each was born in Italy, and adapted to any place endowed with suitable ingredients and conviviality. And each, from egg tagliatelle with Bolognese sauce to bucatini Amatriciana, and from orecchiette with turnip greens to Genoese minestrone with ditalini rigati, is just waiting to be devoured. For BARILLA, it’s not just about being a world leader in pasta production. It’s about producing culture. To fulfill its mission to spread authentic Italian cuisine, of which pasta is the undisputed queen, throughout the world, in 2004 Barilla created the international ACADEMIA BARILLA center, equipped with technologically advanced teaching and practical training environments and a rich gastronomic library featuring a unique collection of its kind.

Pope Francis
Thoughts and Words for the Soul New Edited by Giuseppe Costa
208 pages • 18.5 x 20.5 cm Hardcover with jacket 978 88 544 0837 1
A not to be missed volume about the man who is revolutionizing the Catholic Church and the role of the papacy, an extraordinary collection of the pope’s most beautiful phrases and quotations, asking us to focus “on the essentials, on the necessary things: this is also what fascinates and attracts more, what makes the heart burn”. In the words of Pope Francis, one perceives with extreme clarity the call to the most true and profound values of being Christian. The first successor to Peter coming from the ranks of the Jesuit Order, he has always condemned unjust distribution of wealth, economic inequality and poverty as true human rights violations, like a “social sin” that robs many brothers and sisters all over the world of the chance to enjoy a full life. In this volume, which gathers the pope’s most authentic message, you will find an appeal to not slip away from the true mission of the Church, called to be the bearer of the announcement at the foundation of the Christian faith: the salvific love of God and salvation through Jesus Christ. GIUSEPPE COSTA, a Salesian priest and journalist, specialized in Pastoral Theology at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome and completed a master’s in Journalism at Marquette University (Wisconsin, USA). Visiting lecturer in Journalism and Publishing at the Pontifical Salesian University, he previously taught at the University of Catania and the LUISS in Rome. Since 2007 he has been in charge of the Vatican Publishing House and was nominated Counselor of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications.

SPIRITUALITY & portraits
365 Thoughts of Peace and Hope New Edited by Gabriele Atripaldi Peace and hope: all of us would like to begin the day with a smile and a positive thought, and end it enjoying images of serenity and beauty. These are concepts that humanity has always sought from the great Greek thinkers to the present day. This illustrated book unites the pleasure of the evocative photographs with the thoughts and reflections of great personalities from the past and present. A book to look at and read, to distract ourselves and reflect, that will keep us company for a year of optimism and positive thoughts. A present for someone we care about or who is in need of a ray of sunshine, an opportunity to find a moment of peaceful tranquility. To wish for others and ourselves a year of peace and hope. GABRIELE ATRIPALDI has a classical education and a law degree and has worked as an interpreter for many internationally famous writers. He

has translated a range of works for important publishing houses as well as for prominent magazines like “GO” and “Rolling Stone”. For the latter, he translated an exclusive interview with Obama at the time of his election, previewed in “Corriere della Sera”.

Route of Santiago de Compostela New Text by Alberto Douglas Scotti
236 pages, 18 gatefold • 9.5 x 14.5 cm Hardcover with Elastic Band 978 88 544 0850 0
For many people the Compostela pilgrimage is an event that marks their very existence: something that lays down a “before” and an “after”. Along the walk it is possible to meet fellow travelers whose memory will accompany us for the rest of our lives. Or else we might meet ourselves. The book is presented as a practical guide for those who wish to undertake what has been one of the busiest pilgrimages from the Middle Ages up to the present day. Following the traditional “French Way”, on foot or by bicycle, this guide will accompany the traveler from both the practical and spiritual point of view. Pocket-sized and easy to consult, it allows stepby-step route planning in both directions: it contains all the practical tips needed to make the most of this unforgettable experience. Each stage is accompanied by a detailed map, technical indications, a description of the sites and historic and artistic details about the different areas the Way passes through. Specifically it includes distances, altimetry, places to rest and sleep, alternative routes and places to visit, for a journey that includes cultural and natural elements. The various stages are also accompanied by phrases and points for reflection that help to complete a journey that is not merely geographic. A special space – the pilgrim’s notebook – is provided for pilgrims’ own thoughts and impressions, in such a way that it might become a unique personal guide, “one’s own” guide to the Way of St. James, a book to treasure and remember. ALBERTO DOUGLAS SCOTTI studied arts, philosophy of science and history of religions. Working in publishing since 1986, he is the author of a dozen books, from tourist guides to essays and scientific works.

Brazil New Text by Simona Stoppa
272 pages 396 color photographs 978 88 544 0821 0
This book aims to capture impressions that are hard to convey other than through stunning images and original stories in which history, landscapes and snapshots of everyday life merge into one. Thanks to the painstaking and enlightening historical introduction, a tapestry in which past, present and future magically coexist is revealed. Encountering the sounds, smells, flavors, thousands of colors, varied fauna and lush flora of this country can be astonishing and of unparalleled intensity. Its ancient peoples and more recent immigrants are varied and many, reflecting the geographical backdrop. From the vast, lush Amazon rainforest to the mighty rivers broken up by steep waterfalls; from the untouched beaches and emerald waters of the Atlantic coast to the modern cities where life bustles relentlessly; from the colonial architecture that betrays a rich past to the desolation of the favelas, Brazil is an amazing succession of contradictory elements, of light and shade, of breath taking spectacles and grandiose scenery alongside glimpses of intimate beauty. It is a kaleidoscope of colors and faces that are impossible to forget. SIMONA STOPPA is a journalist specializing in natural, tourist, marine and anthropological themes. She is a long-term contributor to “Pianeta Mare” (Rete 4) and “Geo&Geo” (Rai 3) as writer and director, and with Sky and Rtsi as a producer of clips. She has conceived and written new documentary and journalistic TV formats. She writes for Touring Club Italiano and White Star Publishers, as well as collaborating with a number of magazines and websites for publishers Domus and Gruner+Jahr.

Vanishing Animals Preface by Fulco Pratesi Text by Barbara Franco and Simona Giordano
Global 200 Places that must survive Preface by Fulco Pratesi
A stunning visual call to action to save the endangered species of the world. A poignant chronicling of the vulnerability of the animal life supported by the world’s ecosystems, this important book presents an overview of the principal animal species that are threatened with extinction. For each species, it presents the challenges involved in conservation and explores the actions WWF is taking in the field. Above all, it examines the connection between the protection of a certain species and the survival of the local populations.
This book was created thanks to the enthusiastic support of the WWF, which saw it as a means of raising public awarness of the need to preserve the delicate ecosystems underpinnig our every survival. The book highlights some of the areas most at risk, which often extend over more than one country. Stunning pictures reveal the unique features of each area and the nature of the threat they are facing, with the purpose of conveying a universal message, capable of bestriding borders and influencing political priorities, in the interests of protecting nature.

Horses Master portraits Photographs by Fabio Petroni Foreword by Oliviero Toscani Preface by Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum The history of horses is tightly interwoven with that of humanity, which owes its equine friends a great deal, from fieldwork to transport, from traveling and discovering to sports. This volume is a tribute to mankind’s tireless companion. Clever use of light, which comes from Petroni’s long experience as a still life and portrait photographer, has enabled him to create original images, with a style that is somewhat unusual for animal photographs – a style that is spectacularly enhanced thanks to the book’s large format. The thing that, above all, has enabled the photographer to communicate so directly the true essence of these magnificent quadrupeds is undoubtedly his emotional closeness to his models, the result of love and knowledge developed over so many years. Here, in front of the camera, are smart, timid, aggressive, proud, indolent, protective, curious, and gentle horses, in an explosion of emotions. FABIO PETRONI lives and works in Milan. After studying photography, he turned professional in 1984, since then he has worked with some of the most famous names in international photography. He works with some of the top advertising agencies and has been involved in campaigns for well known national and international brands. His particular focus is on portraits and still life, areas in which he has demonstrated his intuitive and rigorous style. He is the official photographer of the IJRC (International Jumping Riders Club), and is responsible for the public image of major international horse-riding. OLIVIERO TOSCANI is known as the creative force behind the world’s most famous newspapers and brands, and as a conceiver of successful corporate images and publicity campaigns. The recipient of prestigious international awards and recognition, he is Accademico d’Onore at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Florence. He lives in Tuscany, where he produces olive oil and wine and raises horses. MEREDITH MICHAELS-BEERBAUM is a German horse riding champion. She has been devoted to show jumping since she was a young girl, and has become one of the most successful athletes at both European and international levels. Horses Breeds, cultures, traditions Text by Susanna Cottica and Luca Paparelli
Horses Photographs by Gabriele Boiselle Text by Agnès Galletier
This volume celebrates 50 horse breeds and the preeminent institutions of equestrian culture around the globe. The book visits the most renowned riding schools, the most spectacular sporting events, and the most moving, evocative, and colorful folkloristic events. Included are the ancient traditions of the Palio di Siena, snow polo in St. Moritz, the Riding School of Vienna, the Queen’s horses and the Olympia Horse Show in London, rodeos in the USA, the Litang Horse Festival in China, and the world’s richest race, the Dubai World Cup.
Gabrielle Boiselle nurtures a passionate love for horses, which she photographs with unrelieved ardor. Her pictures are never trite, but capture the very soul of these extraordinarily sensitive creatures that exude a powerful and untamed energy and unrivaled grace and nobility. The reader joins the author-photographer in the supremely rewarding but always challenging attempt to capture on film the poetry and beauty that horses radiate, as well as the deep emotions they convey.

Lingerie
The Evolution of Seduction Edited by Valeria Manferto De Fabianis Text by Anna Folli From the corset to the G-string you can choose to conceal or to reveal, the important thing is to be liked and to like yourself. In this book, the history of lingerie is seen both for its elegance and from an ironic angle. Starting from the first bodices and corsets which were true instruments of constriction hidden under layers of crinolines, we come to the glittering and theatrical display of lingerie on the catwalks of the most recent fashion shows. 256 pages • 22.2 x 28.8 cm • 165 color photographs Flexibound with flaps and jacket 978 88 544 0477 9

Pop Art Text by Martina Angelotti, with Valentina Ciuffi and Veronica Lenza This compact overview of Pop Art gathers nearly 200 full-color reproductions of its masterpieces with texts that trace the history of the iconoclastic movement from its origins in the U.K. through its explosion in the U.S. and subsequent European incarnations. Featuring a special introductory chapter on Andy Warhol and brief biographies of each artist represented, the book shows how Pop Art objectified mass-produced imagery from advertising, Hollywood movies, television, comic strips, deftly and often hilariously breaching the gulf between high and low art. 272 pages • 22.2 x 28.8 cm • 147 color photographs Flexibound with flaps and jacket 978 88 544 0579 0

TREASURES of ancient
Egypt Ancient Egypt Art and Archaeology in the Land of the Pharaohs Text by Giorgio Agnese and Maurizio Re One of the most fascinating regions of Africa, the land that saw the rise and fall of the longest and most enigmatic of the Mediterranean civilizations, Egypt is full of landscapes of breathtaking beauty and artistic masterpieces, from the pyramids of Giza to the Valley of the Kings, from the Temple of Philae to Abu Simbel. Thrilling images combined with original text describe the myriad facets of a colorful and surprising land which the Ancients appropriately called “The Red and the Black,” evoking the sharp contrast between the red of the scorching desert wastes and the black silt left by the flooding Nile. Within the pages of this book is an enthralling journey through a country with enduring appeal, savoring the complexity, mystery, and formidable wealth of the land of the pharaohs. GIORGIO AGNESE, a member of the Egypt Exploration Society of London, is also the director of the Genoese Archaeological Group. His research is oriented towards the historical-chronological reconstruction of the Old Kingdom and the Predynastic period with the help of the most recent archaeological discoveries. MAURIZIO RE has been a photographer and freelance researcher in the field of Egyptology since 1985. He is a member of both the Egypt Exploration Society and Astene, a global cultural organization based in Oxford (England) which deals with the study of the 19th century exploration of Egypt and the Middle East.

The Realm of the Pharaohs Text by Zahi Hawass “If you could spend a day at the Giza Pyramids, you would watch the sun rise over the Eastern Desert and see its light caressthe face ofthe Sphinx... Just this one day would convince you that the allure and mystery of ancient Egypt are still alive.” This is how Zahi Hawass, one of the world’s greatest Egyptologists, introduced his journey along the Nile to discover and explore the thousand of years of the civilizations of the pharaos. OVERSIZE ART & wonders
The Art of the Pharaohs
The Art of Pompeii
Preface by Zahi Hawass, text by Giorgio Ferrero Photographs by Araldo de Luca
Photographs by Araldo De Luca Text by Antonella Magagnini
Thanks to its large format, this magnificently illustrated book shows portraits and monuments that are considered to be artistic masterpieces of antiquity in a new light. It traces the profiles of several sovereigns, presenting an accurate and in-depth picture of the history and art of Ancient Egypt and its undisputed protagonists: the Pharaohs. “King of Upper and Lower Egypt,” “Lord of the Two Lands,” and “Son of Ra,” are some of the titles held by the sovereigns who ruled over one of the richest and most powerful states of antiquity for more than 3,000 years. The history of Ancient Egypt through the millennia is marked by a succession of sovereigns and dynasties.
The catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 - freeze-framing a ripe moment in time bestowed upon posterity an incalculable heritage of art and knowledge in the miraculously well-preserved remains of the city of Pompeii. This volume of lush color images taken by renowned photographer Araldo De Luca, takes readers inside the houses and into the secrets of one of the most charming sites of classical antiquity. Accompanying the photos, which are presented in a distinguished oversized format, are accessible texts that elucidate the daily life, the mythic and heroic imagination, and the religious customs and beliefs of the ancient Romans.

Masterpieces of Art
Wonders of the World
Text by Lucia Gasparini and Serena Marabelli
Text by Francesco Boccia
This authoritative volume traces more than two thousand years of timeless masterpieces that have become universal symbols of the genius of humankind, from the mask of Tutankhamun to “The Scream” by Edward Munch. Organized chronologically, each work of art is presented through a meticulously researched text that analyzes the techniques employed by the artist and places each art work in its historical context. Throughout the book, fine quality photographs from the archives of the world’s foremost museums reveal the mastery of each artist through pictures that depict each work in its entirety as well as details that are discussed in the text.
Organized chronologically, Wonders of the World starts with the pyramids at Giza which were built in 2560 BC and ends with the Experience Music Project in Seattle, a museum of rock and roll memorabilia and technology-intensive multimedia displays designed by Frank Gehry and built in 2000. Among the countless other buildings featured in this book are The Parthenon in Athens, Angkor Thom in Siem Reap, Cambodia, The Taj Mahal in India, The Capitol of the United States in Washington, DC, The Opera House of Sydney, and The Sagrada Família, in Barcelona.

Berlin A city for the future Preface by Walter Momper Text by Klaus Hartung This volume is a richly illustrated tribute to a city that, more than any other world capital, has succeeded in renewing and re-inventing itself, representing the cutting edge in many fields. It reveals the history, the buildings, the cultural life, and the contradictions of a city that is full of contrasts and destined for continual evolution. Since that fateful day in 1989, with the fall of the wall that had split the city’s heart in two during the long, painful years of the Cold War, Berlin has become a crossroads between Eastern Europe and the West, where the most varied and avant-garde cultural tendencies meet. Reborn like a phoenix from the ashes of the Second World War, the capital city of a re-unified Germany has been engaged in a colossal and momentous rebuilding process that has transformed it into a modern city center with a thousand faces, a laboratory in constant evolution. Documenting each phase of the city’s development, this book provides a historical reference for understanding the cycle of destruction and reconstruction that Berlin has undergone, while the magnificent photographs bring to life a fascinating gallery of perspectives and views of the principal architectural masterpieces. This book is a tribute to the spirit of our time but also a journey into the past to relive the emotions and memories between progress and nostalgia. WALTER MOMPER, a German politician, was Mayor of West Berlin in 1989. He was President of the Bundesrat from 1989 to 1990, and from 2001 to 2011 he was President of the Chamber of Deputies in Berlin. KLAUS HARTUNG was born in the former East Germany. In 1980, he started working in Berlin as an advertising consultant and journalist. Subsequently, he became editor of the Wochenpost, a widely read newspaper in East Berlin, for which he published articles on politics, social reforms, and contemporary art and on the re-unification of Germany.

CUBEBOOK series
Cubebook This innovative series of volumes offers an original, almost three-dimensional, way of experiencing images. Photographs and authored texts come together in a “cube”, at the same time an independent and modern object of design. Each volume is divided into individual chapters, preceded by an introduction, that cover the subject of the book, logically ordered in such a way as to present the historical, biological, anthropological and artistic implications of the volume’s topic.

Kittens New Text by Rita Mabel Schiavo Tenderness and amusement come together when we are observing baby animals of all species, but kittens multiply these feelings exponentially: furry or hairless, shy or bold, agile or clumsy, they are always “irresistible”. Turning the pages of this volume and letting yourself be captivated by its stunning photos, you will be taken on a journey through the world of these tiny felines, from the moment of their birth to their achievement of independence. From one page to the next, the book analyzes the family life and behavior of kittens – the breed is not important – sometimes clumsy and entertaining, but in reality the result of the evolutionary history of the most popular domestic animal in the world. Dream Vacations New Text by Jasmina Trifoni This volume uses spectacular images to present amazing dream locations found scattered all over the world. It is a wide-open window onto the beauty of our planet, whether places that we have contributed over the centuries to creating or places provided by nature that we have not yet managed to destroy. But, above all, this book is an invitation to cross over all the confines, whether planning your next vacation or letting your desires and imagination run free. It can be considered a kind of colorful drawing album onto which you can map out, page after page, the itinerary for a realizable dream. In this way, the images do not show you the goal: on the contrary, they are points of departure and act like the needle of a compass, suggesting an infinity of roads to be taken, by yourself or in good company. Visiting a famous place is always a pretext for discovering others and going beyond, toward new experiences, new encounters and new emotions.

The Bride’s Album An organizer, journal and keepsake for planning and remembering the wedding Every bride wants her proverbial “best day” to be simply perfect: to achieve this objective, she cuts out and saves images of bouquets, consults friends about makeup and hairstyle, she calls on her loved ones about the choice of suitable place and the dream gown, she tests menus and makes up wedding lists. To organize such an important day and such a complex celebration, she also needs to be informed about the necessary documentation, to collect telephone numbers and appointment dates, to have always on hand the list of guests and that of the participants, for any last-minute modifications. As the fateful day draws near, the excitement can undermine anyone’s organization no matter how perfect, and make it necessary to have a little help to carry out every aspect of the day. This album is the ideal tool to accompany the future bride step-by-step in the planning of each detail of her wedding: the division into thematic chapters allows her to mark and quickly and easily find all the contacts and all necessary information. At the same time, the useful pockets offer space for storing documents, the sources of inspiration to keep in mind, or the list of guests to be updated from time to time. Practical envelopes make it easy to conserve CDs with videos, music, and images. Lastly, there is the final chapter, to be completed after the ceremony, which transforms the volume into a veritable memory album, allowing every couple to retrace the first steps of their new journey.
