Wedding of Mary Margaret Wooten and Anthony Lynn Nealey



Nealey-Wooten vows exchanged Mary Margaret Wooten and Anthony Lynn Nealey were united in marriage on Sept. 14, 2013 in a 5 p.m. ceremony in Evergreen Baptist Church. The bride is the daughter of George Greer and Alice Kissam Wooten of Chadbourn and granddaughter of Ruth Townsend Kissam and the late Ernest Kissam. She is a speech language pathologist with SLP Services Inc. in Whiteville. The groom is the son of Deborah Connor of Clarendon and Earl Nealey of Chadbourn, and grandson of Betty Sue Cartrette and Betty Faye Cribb. He is superintendent with Sumter Utilities of Sumter, S.C. The couple honeymooned in Maui, Hawaii and resides in Whiteville. The Rev. John McPherson and the Rev. Bobby Phillips officiated the double ring ceremony. Music was provided by vocalists Katherine Hinson of Charlotte and Brandon Norris of Clarendon, pianist Linda Jernigan Jordan of Loris, S.C. and violinist Alston Pittman of Tabor City.


Escorted by her father, the bride wore an elegant Prohovias tulle drop waist alise strapless gown with sweetheart neckline and brocade lace appliques, with a small piece of her grandmother’s wedding dress sewn into her gown. She carried a bouquet of antique white roses with greenery. Sweet potato blooms, momentous of two grandfathers and an uncle, were tucked into her bouquet. Sarah Bailey Wooten, twin sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Grace Ann Wooten of Bladenboro, niece of the bride, was junior bridesmaid. Bridesmaids were Stephanie Smith Wooten of Bladenboro and Megan Sullivan Wooten of Lake Waccamaw, sisters-in-law of the bride; Elizabeth Hinson Taylor of Chadbourn and Anna Avant Cartrette of Whiteville, cousins of the bride; and Caroline Simmen Snellings of Burlington, friend of the bride. They wore short dresses of luxe shantung by Jenny Yoo in the color luna and style of their choice, and carried antique white roses. Margaret Anna Cartrette, niece of the bride, and Desiaray Ashgton Nealey, niece of the groom, were flower girls. They wore ankle length dress of the same fabric as the bridesmaids with matching sashes. Gavin Andrew Williamson of Clarendon, nephew of the groom, and Augustus Smith Wooten of Bladenboro, nephew of the bride, were ring bearers. Mark Shannon Cartrette, uncle of the groom, was best man. Groomsmen were Kevin Devon Cartrette of Nakina, cousin of the groom; Brandon Anthony Collins and Kevin Dale Todd of Loris, S.C., friends of the groom; Timothy James Nealey of Tabor City, brother of the groom; Jonathon David Spivey of Tabor City, friend of the groom. Ushers were George Greer Wooten III of Bladenboro and Adam Kissam Wooten of Lake Waccamaw, brothers of the bride. Sullivan Kissam Wooten, nephew of the bride, was honorary candle lighter. The bride’s mother wore a knee length amethyst dress with matching wrap. The groom’s mother wore a street length creamcolored two-piece ensemble.




Shawn Jernigan Elliott of Tabor City directed the wedding. Louise Thomas King and Lillian Greer Inman, cousins of the bride, attended the register. Program attendants were Anne Hampton King and Charlotte Olivia Kinlaw, cousins of the bride. The bride’s parents hosted an outdoor reception at the Kissam home place under a large old oak tree with a dance floor and music by the North Tower Band of Raleigh. Vicky Ward of Whiteville was the caterer. The tree, decorated with 150 handmade Mason Jar lights, is co-champion for largest live oak tree in North Carolina. It stands on land that Benjamin Treadwell Kissam purchased soon after the Civil War. He was among brothers who received $100 each from an aunt, and he came south and raised 13 children on the property he purchased. The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner in the Evergreen Baptist Church fellowship hall.

Entertainment A miscellaneous shower hosted by ladies of the Missionary Alliance Church was held at the home of Sherry Ashley. A bridal shower hosted by ladies of Chadbourn Church of God of Prophecy was held in the church fellowship.

A cookout given by Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Stone, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Caulder, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Leggett, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hinson, Mr. and Mrs. Hamp Avant, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ward and Mrs. Fred Jernigan was held at Mt. Elim Baptist Church fellowship hall. A soiree hosted by Mr. and Mrs. George Wooten III, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Wooten and Miss Sara Bailey Wooten was held at the home of Adam and Megan Wooten at Lake Waccamaw. Entertainment was provided by Masonboro Sound Trio of Wilmington. A bridesmaids lunch was given by Mrs. Cindy Honeycutt and Mrs. Lou Ann Hilbourn in the fellowship hall of Evergreen Baptist Church. Carla Brown hosted a dinner at Southern Kitchen with co-workers attending.
