Deena Sarvis is bride of Ian Smeigh

Deena Yvonne Sarvis and Joseph Ian Smeigh were united in marriage on July 27 in a 5 p.m. ceremony at Lu Mil Vineyard in Dublin. The Rev. Wayne Holley, youth pastor at Trinity Baptist Church, officiated. Music was provided by Lacey Borowiec and Joshua Nobles. The bride is the daughter of Danny Sarvis of Leland and Yvonne Nance Sarvis of Whiteville. She graduated from Whiteville High School, UNC Wilmington’s Watson School of Education and received a Masters of Art Education at East Carolina University. She teaches fifth grade at Hallsboro-Artesia School. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Smeigh of Rockingham. He graduated from Rockingham Senior High School and earned an associate degree in information systems at Southeastern Community College. He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science at UNC Wilmington.




The couple is living in Wilmington after honeymooning in Nassau and Coco Cay on a Royal Caribbean cruise. The bride was escorted by her father. She wore a Casablanca A-line wedding gown of beaded lace over silky satin. The strapless bodice features a modified sweetheart neckline and drop back. Beads adorn the entire dress while the chapel train creates a dramatic design. Her bridal bouquet was wrapped in her mom’s wedding dress lace (something old) and her nana’s pink brooch (something borrowed). Sarah Otstot of Whiteville, best friend of the bride, was matron of honor. She wore a coral Alfred Angelo one-shoulder, natural-waist chiffon cocktail length dress with teal sandals and accessories. Bridesmaids were Ashley Sarvis of Leland, sister-in-law of the bride; Cara Smeigh of Whiteville, sister-in-law of the groom and Leah Smeigh of Rockingham, sister of the groom. They wore teal Alfred Angelo one-shoulder natural-waist chiffon cocktail length dresses with coral sandals and accessories.


Kenley Smeigh of Whiteville, niece of the groom, was flower girl. She wore a white dress with a teal sash. Jameson N. Sarvis of Leland, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer. The groom’s brother, Neil Smeigh of Whiteville, was best man. Groomsmen were Daniel Sarvis of Leland, brother of the bride; Derek Otstot and Mickey Worthington of Whiteville. The bride’s mother wore a bronze dress with ribbon detail and beaded neckline. The groom’s mother wore a plum dress with beading. Pam Ashley was wedding coordinator. Mr. and Mrs. Drew Cox and Mike Creen were program attendants. Heather English and Bill Gingrich attended the guest register and Michelle Worthington attended the Triptych tree painting thumbprint. Edison Elkins drove the newlyweds from the reception in his 1955 red Chevrolet truck.



The bride’s parents hosted a reception catered by Dowless Catering of Clarkton at Lu Mil Vineyard. DJs “Play that One” (Terry Basobas and Donnie Coleman) provided music. Slushies were served by Sherry Tyler and Brenda Sellers and cake was served by Sandra Malpass. Joanie Basobas directed the reception. The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Trinity Baptist Church fellowship hall. Entertainment Sandra Malpass and the Grace Sunday School Class hosted a wedding shower at Trinity Baptist Church. Sharon Tyler hosted a bridesmaids luncheon at her home. A Pampered Chef shower was given by Dr. Christy Purdue, Lora Baker and Anna Klara at the Purdue home at Lake Waccamaw. Bridesmaids hosted a lingerie shower at the home of the bride. A tool shower was given by Dr. and Mrs. MickeyWorthington and Mr. and Mrs. Neil Smeigh at the Worthington home. A Christmas shower was given by Jackie Gore and Sonda Simmons at the Gore home. A pounding for the couple was hosted by Jenny and Kate Meekins at their home. A bachelorette party was held in Charleston and a bachelor party was held at Carowinds.
