Disability Access reform bill becomes law; intends to limit frivolous lawsuits against small businesses Disability access lawsuits have become more prevalent in the state of California making headlines over the past few months, which led to Governor Jerry Brown’s decision to move forward on a new bill which would potentially limit legal abuse against small business owners who are not in compliance. Since passing Congress in 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has addressed the unique needs of those individuals with disabilities and other potentially challenging conditions. The ADA guarantees free access to roadways, sidewalks, buildings and facilities which are open to the public, along with hospitals, medical facilities and housing. California businesses are running into increased legal trouble over the more than 2,400 provisions in the state alone pertaining to disability access in businesses and public areas. Although the ADA laws have been in existence for decades, some say that blurred legal guidelines have allowed for an influx of disability activists and various patrons taking advantage of the system and many unsuspecting business owners. Governor Brown’s California Chamber of Commerce-supported legislation to limit frivolous litigation connected with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has now officially been signed into law. SB 1186 (Steinberg; D-Sacramento/ Dutton; R-Rancho Cucamonga) also promotes increased compliance with disability accessibility building codes throughout the state.
Presort Std. US Postage PAID Whittier, CA Permit No. 1
SB 1186 was developed over the last four months in discussions by the authors, their staffs and a working group including the CalChamber. Brown, a former state attorney general, hopes the bill will not only limit cases of ADA abuse but will encourage business owners to learn more about the laws and how to maintain an accessible business. As an urgency measure, SB 1186 took effect immediately upon being signed into action in September. Among other things, SB 1186: • Requires attorneys to send a notice letter, listing any alleged construction-related violations, at least 30 days before filing a lawsuit. • Prohibits prelitigation “demands for money” by attorneys. • Puts into place new provisions to prevent “stacking” of multiple claims to increase statutory damages. • Reduces statutory damages and provides litigation protections for defendants who correct violations. • Requires landlords to disclose whether their buildings or properties are state certified and in compliance with ADA laws. • Establishes priorities for the California Commission on Disabled Accessibility that promote and facilitate disability access compliance. California has reported having 40% of the nation’s ADA lawsuits but only 12% of the country’s disabled population, making the new legislation of high importance.
Business owners are encouraged to consult an attorney with questions in order to ensure they are, in fact, in compliance before finding themselves in a predatory legal battle. Here are just a few ways you can make sure your business is addressing the issues head on:

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
As we continue with the usual traditions and beauty of the fall season, albeit most of the weather seemed to pass us by, I am looking forward to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. During this time of year, I like to reflect on all that I have to be grateful for each and every day. While preparing this letter, I am reminded of so many things I am thankful for in my life, and I certainly hope you all can do the same. I am grateful that we live in a nation where we can freely vote for our next President, a privilege we shouldn’t take for granted, even if the economy has not yet fully recovered from the last few years of uncertainty. Not focusing on the difficulties of these challenging times, but instead enjoying being a part of this great community, is something I’m always thankful for professionally as well. Finding gratitude professionally isn’t hard these days with so many opportunities to promote and build my business as a Whittier Chamber member! One easy way to take advantage of my membership is by participating in the annual Business Directories campaign and purchasing an enhanced listing in both the printed Chamber directory for the 2013 year and on the Chamber’s website as well. There are even a la carte options so there’s no excuse not to have a presence in both places, which will make it easier for residents and potential customers to find my business in town or online. This Chamber booklet is only printed once a year so make sure to contact the Chamber staff early in November to verify your company information! I’m also grateful for the many Chamber events to attend and gain new leads at this month, including Wake Up Whittier on November 21 at California Country Club, located at 1509 S. Workman Mill Rd., and Tasty Tuesday on November 27 at Crepes & Grapes in Uptown Whittier, 6560 Greenleaf Ave. Both of these popular monthly events will be the last ones of the year so make sure to be there with your business cards. Lastly, I encourage you all to take a moment and indulge in the wonderful people you see; the beautiful parks; the growing libraries; our local hospitals always there to take care of us; our City of Whittier staff who continues to make this a great place to live, work and play; our Police Department who works diligently to keep our community safe; our award winning school districts; and the many more reasons we have to be grateful to be in Whittier! Happy Thanksgiving

F I N A N C I A L U P DAT E The Many Benefits of Rollover IRAs
A rollover IRA can provide investors with the broadest range of investment choices and the greatest flexibility for distribution planning.
Douglas M. Rowan, CFP®, CMFC, AIF®
Are you planning to retire or switch jobs and wondering what to do with the retirement plan assets at your previous employer? If you continue working, you could roll them into your new employer’s plan, but a rollover IRA may be a better choice. A rollover IRA can provide you with the broadest range of investment choices, the greatest flexibility for distribution planning, and can typically be operated with fewer restrictions. A rollover IRA gives you: • More control: As the IRA account owner, you and your advisor can make key decisions affecting management and administrative costs, overall level of service, investment direction, asset allocation and estate planning. You can develop the precise mixture of investments that best reflects your personal risk tolerance, investment philosophy, and financial goals. You can create IRAs that access the investment expertise of any available investment complex, and can hire and fire managers. You also control account administration and protection through your choice of IRA custodians. • More flexibility: IRAs can be more useful in estate planning than employersponsored plans. IRA assets can generally
be divided among multiple beneficiaries in an estate plan. Each of those beneficiaries can make use of planning structures such as the Stretch IRA concept to maintain tax-advantaged investment management during their lifetimes. Beneficiary distributions from employersponsored plans, in contrast, typically have fewer options. Also, except in states with explicit community property laws, IRA account holders have sole control over their beneficiary designations. Efficient Rollovers Require Careful Planning One common goal of planning for a lumpsum distribution is averting unnecessary tax withholding. Under federal tax rules, any lump-sum distribution that is not transferred directly from a retirement account to another is subject to a special withholding of 20%. This withholding will apply as long as the employer’s check is made out to you -- even if you plan to place equivalent cash in an IRA immediately. To avert the withholding, you must first create your rollover IRA, and then request that your employer transfer your assets directly to the custodian of that IRA. Keep in mind that the 20% withholding is not your ultimate tax liability. If you spend the lump-sum distribution rather than reinvest it in another tax-qualified retirement account, you’ll have to declare the full value of the lump sum as income and pay the full tax at filing time. In addition, the IRS generally imposes a 10% penalty tax on withdrawals taken before age 59½. Also, if you plan to roll over the entire sum, but have the check made out to you rather than your new IRA custodian, your employer will be required to withhold the 20%. In that event, you can get the 20% refunded if you complete the rollover within 60 days. You must deposit the full amount of your distribution in your new IRA, making up the withheld 20% out of other resources. When you file your tax return for the year, you can then include a request for refund of the lump-sum withholding. Continued on page 5

City Of Whittier
UPDATE
MAYOR'S MESSAGE Owen Newcomer
Congratulations to LINC Housing for completing Mosaic Gardens, a 21-unit affordable family apartment development in our city! Last month, the City and LINC welcomed new residents to the site at a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting. The City is proud to have partnered with LINC on this project as it represents many successes. The new community at the corner of Philadelphia Street and Pickering Avenue has done wonders for that gateway into Uptown Whittier and the project is the first residential development under the Uptown Specific Plan. Mosaic Gardens is beautifully designed in a Mediterranean architectural style with three stories over a one-level parking garage. The property’s onsite amenities include a large community room where resident programs and events will take place. The community room will also offer a resident computer lab. Congratulations again to LINC for completing this great project in Whittier! Mark your calendars for another grand opening celebration! Plans are in the works to celebrate the grand opening of the enlarged and updated Whittwood Branch Library on Saturday morning, December 1. The Branch Library was expanded from 9,735 to 15,733 square feet and offers a selfcheckout, more space for books, more programming for children and adults and a beautiful high-tech meeting room for community events. Additionally, the Whittier Public Library Foundation’s Enhance the Branch campaign has raised almost $500,000 for two study/
tutoring rooms, a mural depicting the early history of Whittier, many computers, a large (artificial) orange tree for the children’s room, furnishings for the community room and more. Visit the Whittier Public Library webpage at www.whittierlibrary.org for more details on the festivities. On November 8, the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) will announce the winner of the 2012 Most Business Friendly City Competition at the Annual Eddy Awards Dinner. After being nominated as a finalist for four consecutive years, we are hopeful this is our year to win! Thank you to our partners at the Whittier Chamber of Commerce and the Whittier Uptown Association for helping us create a business friendly environment. We truly appreciate the recognition for our commitment to the business community from the LAEDC. There is a good deal of commercial activity occurring around the city with many projects in varying stages. If you have driven past Santa Gertrudes Avenue on Whittier Boulevard, inevitably you have seen how quickly Sprouts Farmers Market has sprouted out of the ground! They are making lots of progress and are staying on their aggressive construction schedule for an opening in Spring 2013. Other development projects in the works include a new drive-through Starbucks at Whittier Boulevard and Colima Road and a new LA Fitness at the former Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge site on Whittier Boulevard. Also, a new Yogurtland has joined The Quad family; look for a grand opening celebration to take place soon. Remember to shop locally during the holiday season and throughout the coming year—your fellow Whittier businesses will appreciate it! Also, please consider having your holiday party catered by one of our local Whittier restaurants and help make it a truly special event for everyone. Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!
Whittier Community Foundation members celebrated during the ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony for the new fitness equipment along the Greenway Trail
Whittier Greenway Trail exercise equipment dedicated In addition to providing a pleasant way to walk or bike along the Whittier Greenway Trail for exercise, a new facet to increase the physical fitness benefits of the Trail was unveiled on Wednesday, October 10. Four exercise equipment stations – all with different pieces of equipment – are located at Palm Park, near Five Points, Lambert/Coachman and Lambert/Mills. The equipment is designed so that a person’s body weight provides the resistance, as these are outside pieces, not the type that would be in an inside gym. The equipment at each station will provide a full-body workout, and is designed to be used by anyone ages 12 years through senior citizen. Dedication ceremonies were held at the Palm Park fitness station. Approximately 65 attended, including City officials and representatives from the Whittier Community Foundation and Kaiser Permanente, both of which provided
the funding for the equipment; and Trail users. The Whittier Community Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to providing support for programs to benefit the Whittier community and seeks assistance from various local agencies year to achieve this goal. Through its various fund-raising events, such as “Dancing with the Whittier Stars,” “Paws 4 A Cause” and the “Spooktacular 5K Run,” the Foundation raised $50,072 towards the project, which was supplemented by a $22,500 grant from Kaiser Permanente to complete the funds necessary to purchase and install the equipment. For more information on the Whittier Greenway Trail fitness project or the Whittier Community Foundation and its activities, contact galaniz@cityofwhittier. org or the Foundation website, www.whittiercommunityfoundation.org.

WHITTIER BUSINESS FOCUS
Be Aware of Phony Fire Inspectors Continued from page 1 Business owners should ensure that any fire inspection that is completed at their business is legitimate. This can be accomplished by following four simple steps: 1. Inspectors should introduce themselves as County of Los Angeles Fire Department employees or identify their business and produce a business card. Allowing an individual to enter your business without a clear understanding of who that person is, as well as their intentions, is not recommended. 2. Inspectors should be able to present a copy of their current County or City business license. Legitimate contractors should have a “C-10” endorsement to inspect fire alarms or a “C-16” endorsement to inspect fire sprinklers and fix fire protection systems. Licenses can be verified by checking with the Contractor’s State License Board at http:// www.cslb.ca.gov. 3. Inspectors should be able to tell you what they intend to do and what the
estimated costs will be. Never pay in cash. Invoicing and recordkeeping are important for your business and help assist in establishing future legal avenues if the inspection turns out to be fraudulent. 4. Inspectors must leave any broken and/or replaced parts with you. They also must provide a signed invoice. Remember, you may always refuse service and contact the County of Los Angeles Fire Department for guidance. We will gladly advise you of any required service schedules for your fire protection systems and assist you in verifying that the company you choose is qualified to provide the appropriate inspection, testing and maintenance. If you suspect suspicious activity, contact law enforcement, your municipal fire department or the County of Los Angeles Fire Department’s Public Affairs Section at (323) 881-2411.

greater than $1 million in an IRA may be taken to satisfy your debts in certain personal bankruptcy scenarios. Assets in an employer-sponsored plan cannot be readily taken in many circumstances. Also, you must begin taking distributions from an IRA by April 1 of the year after you reach 70½ whether or not you continue working, but employer-sponsored plans do not require distributions if you continue working past that age. Remember, the laws governing retirement assets and taxation are complex. In addition, there are many exceptions and limitations that may apply to your situation. Therefore, you should obtain qualified professional advice before taking any action.
If you have after-tax contributions in your employer plan, you may opt to withdraw them without penalty when you roll over your assets. However, if you wish to leave those funds in your retirement account in order to continue tax deferral, you can include them in your rollover. When you begin regular distributions from your IRA, a prorated portion will be deemed nontaxable to reimburse you for the after-tax contributions. Potential Downsides of IRA Rollovers While there are many advantages to consolidated IRA rollovers, there are some potential drawbacks to keep in mind. Assets

Ron & Samantha Ridout Ron & Samantha Ridout both grew up around scouting. Samantha’s father was a scout master and her brother is an Eagle Scout. Ron’s father was also a scout master and he made sure that Ron enjoyed all that scouting had to offer. Their grandson is also an Eagle Scout. So both have a lasting appreciation for how scouting molds character. Samantha, born in Rhode Island, graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a teaching credential and went to work for the American Red Cross. Ron was born and grew up in the “Mayberry” setting of Placerville, and majored in food service management at the University of Nevada, Reno. Samantha and Ron met in Fresno in 1977. Ron managed an ambulance company and was an active volunteer and Samantha was the Safety Service Director at the local Red Cross. They moved to Whittier shortly after marrying in 1978 so Ron could become the manager of AME Ambulance Service, a position he held until the end of 1987. Samantha worked at various positions for the Red Cross during those years including being in charge of all spectator first aid at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Ron and Samantha are extraordinarily proud of their children, Matthew and Melissa, who were both born and raised in Whittier, and Donovan, Ron’s son from a previous marriage. In 1996, Samantha opened Samantha’s Courtyard Café, a lifelong dream. It provided a fun and wonderful 8 years with lots of great memories full of terrific people. In 2005 she returned to the “non profit” world by embracing the Boys & Girls Club of Whittier. Being Executive Director has been one of the most rewarding things she has ever done. In 1987, Ron went into real estate. As manager of what is now Realty Executives Cornerstone, he grew the office into a well-respected and successful business. He and his business partner, Meri Rama, purchased the business in 2002 and have enjoyed working with some of the best realtors in Whittier. Both Ron & Samantha love Whittier and have been active in the community since they arrived. Ron is a 32-year member of the Rotary Club, has served on the YMCA and Boys & Girls Club boards, and is a trustee for the Whittier Elks Lodge. He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and works behind the scenes in the political arena for the betterment of Whittier’s future. Samantha has been a member of Rotary, Soroptimist of Whittier, the Chamber of Commerce and is active in Boys & Girls Club of America activities. Their hobbies include cooking, fishing, sailing, gardening, traveling, entertaining and a passion for scuba diving. They are going to remain in Whittier for their retirement because of the wonderful friends that have become such an important part of their lives.

$ TAX TIPS Charitable Contributions Through “DonorAdvised Funds”
Richard Scrivanich If you are interested in making a substantial donation to charity this year, but you would like to advise the charity in future years as to the possible use of the donated funds and still preserve your right to a charitable deduction for this year when the funds are paid to the charity, you can do so through socalled “donor-advised funds” or “advise and consult funds” which you may have seen advertised by tax-exempt organizations. Donor-advised funds, though they may bear the donor’s name, are not separate entities, but are mere bookkeeping entries. They are components of a qualified charitable organization. A contribution to a charity’s donoradvised fund may be deductible in the year it is made if it isn’t considered earmarked for a particular distributee. The charity must fully own the funds and have ultimate control over their distribution. You must get a written acknowledgement from the fund’s sponsoring organization that it has exclusive legal control over the assets contributed.
Though the donor can advise the charity, which generally will follow his recommendations, the donor cannot have power to select distributees or decide the timing or amounts of distributions. The donor’s only input is to advise the charity as to the identity of possible distributees and the possible timing and amounts of distributions. This right must be advisory and not binding. The charity is not required to follow the donor’s advice, but must retain complete discretion regarding the use of the funds. Donors often use donor-advised funds to control the timing of their charitable contributions or to defer the selection of the ultimate recipient. Donor-advised funds may also serve as a convenient alternative to setting up a private foundation. It may be advisable to contribute appreciated securities to a charity’s donor-advised fund in order to avoid the capital gain tax that would otherwise be due on the sale of the securities. A major advantage of this type of gift is that the fund already exists and has been determined to be a tax-exempt organization. Thus, there is no need to apply for tax exemption, and no annual IRS filings are required. Mutual funds operated by major financial institutions, as well as many community trust organizations, operate such funds. The fund may require a minimum initial contribution and may require that any recommended distributions be in excess of a minimum amount. If you have any questions regarding the above discussed topic or any other tax matter, please feel free to give me a call at (562) 698-9891. Richard Scrivanich, Partner For Harvey & Parmelee LLP

Rio Hondo honors program gives admission edge to transfer students Rio Hondo students who participated in the College Honors Program were admitted to UCLA at a higher rate than students who did not, according to recent statistics that highlight the acceptance rates between honor students and their non-honors counterparts. The Rio Hondo College Honors Program is an open access program that currently serves about 331 students. For fall 2012, 74 percent of Rio Hondo honors students who applied to UCLA were accepted, compared to an acceptance rate of just 29.6 for nonhonors program students. “This excellent honors program puts our highly motivated students on an academically rigorous path that better prepares them to transfer to universities and complete a bachelor’s degree,” says Board of Trustees President Norma Edith Garcia. “Anyone willing to meet its standards and perform the extra work is invited to join.” The program offers enriched curriculum, smaller class size and close interaction with honors program faculty. Honors students are also given priority admission consideration at many four-year schools. Beyond UCLA, Rio Hondo has transfer agreements with 16 universities in California and the Pacific Northwest. The Rio Hondo College Honors
Program, however, began in 1996 through the Transfer Alliance Program at UCLA. The program is designed to foster academic excellence at the community college level and to promote diversity and retention in the UCLA transfer population. “Your students continue to make excellent progress while at UCLA and contribute a great deal to the academic community through their academic work and extracurricular involvement,” said Judith L. Smith, vice provost for Undergraduate Education at UCLA. “The preparation provided by your Honors/ Scholars program enables them to be very successful at UCLA.” RHC has honors transfer agreements with the following schools: UCLA; UC Irvine; UC Riverside; UC Santa Cruz; California State Universities Fullerton, Long Beach, Cal Poly Pomona, and San Diego; Chapman College; Loyola Marymount; Pomona College; Pitzer College; Whitman College (Washington); Pacific University (Oregon). Located in Whittier, Rio Hondo College is a collaborative center of lifelong learning which provides innovative, challenging and quality educational offerings for its diverse students and community. For information on the College or its programs, please call (562) 692-0921 or visit www.riohondo.edu.
Rio Hondo College named “Military Friendly School” for fourth year For the fourth consecutive year, Victory Media and G.I. Jobs magazine has designated Rio Hondo College as a “Military Friendly School.” The 2013 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus. The 1,739 colleges, universities and trade schools on this year’s list demonstrate leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience. Since its establishment in 2008, the Rio Hondo College Veterans Service Center has served more than 4,000 veterans and eligible dependents from five branches of the United States Armed Services annually. Last May, the Vons Foundation presented $10,000 to the Rio Hondo College Foundation to benefit veteran s t u d e n t s t h r o u g h t h e Ve t e r a n s
Emergency Loan Program. Te m p o r a r y l o a n s f r o m t h e Veterans Emergency Loan Program are a critical source of support for students in the process of securing their veteran Financial Educational Benefits. Emergency funds made possible through the Vons Foundation contribution will enable veteran students to begin classes and purchase books and supplies until benefits arrive. The 2013 Military Friendly Schools list was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 12,000 VA-approved schools nationwide. The survey results were independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by G.I. Jobs. Each year schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board (AAB) consisting of educators from schools across the country.

YOUNG PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT Learning the tricks of the trade with Graphic Designer Pamela Hiroshige of ACRO Printing, Inc. Give us a brief description of the business you work for and what you do… ACRO Printing, Inc. is located in Uptown Whittier on Friends Ave. and Philadelphia St. We specialize in digital and offset printing, design and promotional items. I am a Graphic Designer and Typesetter, and render artwork for clients with the specs needed for various projects. What is something about ACRO that customers don’t know? Everyone in ACRO’s artwork department has a college degree in Design. We are able to work with clients from conception to the finished product and are fully trained to help diverse companies create everything from identity to promotional products. How did you get involved in Graphic Design? I always enjoyed art, and actually associate the turning of my studies from the sciences to humanities to a high school art history course, which turned out to be my favorite subject. I ended up majoring in Art with an emphasis on Design in college. What would you say is the most rewarding aspect of your job? The most rewarding aspect is learning about the various businesses in the community and their services. The materials I read through have taught me a little more about different industries that I had very little knowledge of, or experience with. What do you get most out of being a Whittier Chamber member? Being a Whittier Chamber member is a great opportunity to gain exposure and networking opportunities. It also allows me to be a bigger part of the community in which I spend most of my time. What kind of advice do you have for anyone who might be new to networking, like a fellow young professional? Don’t be shy and don’t forget to smile! If you have a shy personality, buddy-up and network with a friend, though the intention is to meet new people, so don’t just seek out those whom you already know.

Uptown Whittier gets set for holiday season with family events The holidays are here and the Whittier Uptown Association is once again hosting the Uptown Whittier Holiday Extravaganza. The Holiday Sonata kicks off the celebrations starting on Saturday, December 1 from 5 to 9 p.m. This event brings holiday cheer as Uptown businesses open their doors to greet our local community with warm, old-fashioned hospitality. Family and friends will experience the holiday season in Uptown Whittier with horsedrawn carriage rides along the treelined streets of Uptown, enjoy taking pictures with Santa, old-fashioned Christmas caroling, entertainment and plenty of shopping and dining. “The Wonder of Christmas” theme continues on Saturday, December 8 with the 59th Annual Whittier Christmas Parade which happens to be the biggest event of the year and will include over 120 parade participants. The Whittier Uptown Association is proud to announce that Mr. Hubert Perry will serve as Grand Marshal, who is known by many as the Founder of P.I.H. Health. Hubert, along with several others, worked diligently in the 1950’s raising funds to start what was then Presbyterian Hospital.
Parade announcers will be Joe Corey and Samantha Ridout, both community standouts, who are looking forward to welcoming all to the event. The parade will feature marching bands, equestrian groups, floats, vintage automobiles, clowns, dancers, local dignitaries, Miss Uptown 2012-2013 and Santa Claus. This year’s band judging will be organized by The Southern California Band Orchestra Association. The parade floats will also be judged by volunteers and selected Uptown business owners. In years past, the parade has attracted an estimated 30,000 supporters with each year growing larger in attendance. The audience is comprised of residents from the surrounding cities of Whittier, La Habra, Montebello, Pico Rivera, El Monte, La Puente, La Mirada, Downey and more. The Whittier Uptown Association would like to wish the greater Whittier community a happy and safe holiday season! Applications for parade entries and sponsorships are still being accepted. I have chosen to be active in the Whittier Chamber of Commerce for two primary reasons: (1) to gain visibility for my business and (2) for the promotion of the economic viability of our region. Friendly Hills Bank is the only publicly traded company in the region and we joined the Whittier Area Chamber of Commerce before we conducted our Initial Public Offering, and even before we had obtained our bank charter. It was through the Chamber that we were able to effectively share this unique new opportunity for a locally owned bank with the community at large. We were able to build an awareness of our mission and establish a level of support which continues to benefit us today and into the future. Like any good thing in life, the benefits of Chamber membership grow exponentially with increased involvement. Like all local businesses, our success is dependent upon the overall strength of our community and the Chamber is at the forefront of those opportunities. This has been critical to our success amidst a challenging economic environment. We have a vested interest in keeping Whittier and its surrounding communities a great place for residents and business alike. The Chamber is a key tool in that effort and to not be involved with the Chamber is to not be involved in that opportunity.
