Building the Tools to Carve Shaving Horses, Hatchets, Knives, Spoons and more This three-day, hands-on workshop will focus on crafting the hand carving tools necessary to create a

variety of objects and will culminate by carving a wooden bowl or spoon. The design of this workshop is cumulative where each day builds upon the one before. You will leave with the practical tools and methodology to continue carving and the deep knowledge of instructors Bill Coperthwaite and Taz Friday, October 10 thru Squire.

Sunday, October 12

Designed for all levels of experience, this workshop is accessible to everyone. Throughout the weekend we will provide ample time to discuss and ask questions about the many materials, tools, designs, ideas and techniques. $450 residential tuition includes accommodations, three meals a day plus all materials. $375 non-residential tuition includes three meals a day plus all materials Knoll Farm, Fayston, VT

DAY 1: cutting and shaping pine boards to create a shaving horse plus making a hatchet.

DAY 2: making a crooked or straight knife.

DAY 3: carving a bowl or spoon of your choice!

THE INSTRUCTORS: Bill Coperthwaite has been combing the world for simpler craft techniques for over 50 years - seeking ways for beginning handcrafters to drawn into the joyous world of creating with the hands. Bill's approach to handcraft, simple living, and education are penned in his book, A Handmade Life. He is the director of the Yurt Foundation in Machiasport, ME and introduced the yurt to the West in 1962. Taz Squire loves working with his hands, close to the land and community. He has worked in experiential education and is skilled in yurt building, hand tool use, carving, trail building, and has a deep understanding of and reverence for the land. Taz is currently the Land Steward at Center for Whole Communities. Join these two and their mastery, knowledge, friendship, and love of carving.
