Spoon-Carving Workshop SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25TH Knoll Farm, Bragg Hill, Fayston, VT 8:30 am- 5:30 pm COST:

INSTRUCTOR: Taz Squire, Land Steward at Center for Whole Communities. Join us this full-day, hands-on workshop where you will make a beautiful hardwood spoon out of cherry, maple or birch. We will provide the carving blades and wood, and you will focus on the on the techniques of using a straight knife and a crooked knife- the traditional carving tool of the Northwest coast tribes- to shape a spoon of your own design. Designed for all levels of experience, these workshops are accessible to everyone. It will be of special interest to those who enjoy carving and want to go away with a beautiful spoon. Wooden eating, cooking and serving spoons make amazing gifts and can last a lifetime. All materials and tools will be provided to create a complete a spoon by the end of the day. You are welcome to bring your own favorite wood and tools, if desired. Hot beverages and water will be provided. The workshop will be inside or outside, weather dependent. Please bring your own lunch and snacks. THE INSTRUCTOR: Taz loves working with his hands, close to the land and community. He is a...carpenter, carver, car and bike mechanic, welder, photographer, advocate for social and racial justice, race car aficionado, cyclist, skier, climber...a good old-fashioned Renaissance Man. Taz acquired skills in experiential education, yurt building, hand tool use, carving, trail building, and an understanding of and reverence for the land. He has also been a student in more traditional educational settings at the University of Maine, Machias and Naropa University, Boulder, where he focused on Peace Studies.
