News and information from our partners at Wichita Public Schools North named AVID National Demonstration School North High School AVID students Isaias Trejo, Aakem Stephens and Jessica Cepeda celebrate their school being named a National Demonstration School.

orth named AVID National Demonstration School North High School has once again been named an AVID National Demonstration School. By earning the National Demonstration School recognition, schools from across the country who are interested in an AVID program can visit North to learn how to successfully implement the program. Fewer than 50 schools out of 4,700 with AVID programs are named Demonstration Schools. AVID recognized North as one of the top three programs in the country and said the school is recognized

throughout the AVID community as one of the best demonstration schools in terms of outcomes, leadership, schoolwide successes and rigor. A case study showing the journey to school-wide AVID at North continues to be used at AVIDâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s national training seminars. This is the tenth year that AVID has been at North. AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college prep program designed for students who have the potential, but who traditionally may not see college as a possibility. Each student involved in AVID takes an AVID elective

in addition to Advanced Placement and Honors-level courses. The students also receive support from college tutors and are encouraged to become leaders in the school and community. Pleasant Valley has also received the AVID National Demonstration School recognition. ast High School’s Symphony Orchestra was invited to perform at the prestigious Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago. East’s Orchestra was one of eight orchestras selected to perform from dozens of orchestras from across the country that applied. The orchestra performed on December 17. “This is the finest group of musicians I have ever had assembled under my baton. It is attended by over 15,000 people each year from across the U.S. and more than 30 countries. East’s Symphony Orchestra and Robinson Middle School’s orchestra have previously performed at the clinic.

If you’re heading to Hog Wild and you ask someone what you should order, there’s a good chance that you’ll be told to try the ribs. About 5,000 people attended Zoobilee last year, sampling food and drink from area restaurants, dancing to one of the several bands on site and bidding on auction items.
