This month we feature The Westerly Residences at Presbyterian Manor. In the short time I spent with the staff of this community, I fell absolutely in love with their mission and vision and was truly tempted to move in myself! I hope you take the time to stop by and say hello. You will surely be impressed with this charming community. As always, thank you to all of our advertisers and readers. Enjoy the last few weeks of summer!

The kids are back to school and schedules are back in place. Why is it just now feeling like summer? The past few months have been incredible and exciting in our home. On May 15th, we welcomed our fourth child, Ethan Joseph. We had decided early on to not find out the sex, so after three daughters, you can imagine our excitement at the birth of our first son. You may have noticed I managed to squeeze a photo of him on page 3.

ennette McCurdy is on a mission to put the play back on the dinner plate! She teamed up with Birds Eye Vegetables for their “Rewrite The Dinnertime Rules” campaign that makes dinnertime more fun and encourages kids to get the daily recommended amount of veggies, all leading up to Nickelodeon’s 10th annual Worldwide Day of Play this fall. Celebrity Teen Scoop recently chatted with Jennette about her partnership with Birds Eye Vegetables, how she’s preparing for the Worldwide Day of Play, and her role as celebrity mentor in the upcoming Kidz Star USA competition. The Sam & Cat star also shared what it’s like working with Ariana Grande! CTS: about Birds

oes your child consume acidic foods or beverages? You might be wondering what the definition of acidity is and how it applies to teeth? These days hundreds of carbonated drinks line the shelves of stores across the nation. Some beverages are more acidic then others but for the most part all have the same affect meaning they can all cause damage to teeth if not neutralized or consumption limited. If at all possible, try alternatives that are sugar free and non-carbonated. Or if you must, use a straw to limit its contact with the teeth and chew sugar free gum afterwards. So please keep your children informed on not only their brushing habits, but their diet as well.

recommended daily servings of vegetables. I think a great way to get kids to start eating their vegetables is to get creative with them. You need to take charge of what you eat and what you put in your body. I want to help kids pay attention to the things they can do to make sure they’re getting the amount of vegetable servings each day.” CTS: What is the The Dinnertime campaign all

‘Rewrite Rules’ about?

Jennette: “When I think of typical dinnertime rules, I think of a family sitting at a table in a sturdy manner, and it’s not necessarily a relaxed and playful time. I think rewriting the dinnertime rules means ditching the button-down shirt and forgetting about initiating boring conversations about what the kids learned in school. The campaign encourages families to make dinnertime fun. Especially for the kids…get playful with your vegetables and play with your food! Go for it!” [laughs] CTS: How are you getting ready

for the Worldwide Day of Play this fall? Jennette: “Nickelodeon puts on the Worldwide Day of Play every year, and it’s a really fun event filled with tons of games and activities. It’s a great initiative by Nickelodeon that encourages kids to have a healthy and active lifestyle. I think a healthy lifestyle means making exercise fun, because, for me, going to the gym is not a good time. [laughs] Lately, I’ve been going on hikes with my friend from iCarly. She’s driven and really good at hiking, so it’s really difficult but fun at

the same time. I also like doing Pilates classes and going on runs around neighborhoods with pretty trees around.” CTS: Is healthy a high priority for

eating you?

Jennette: “I don’t follow any special diet, but I do try to eat healthy. For me, that means eating grilled chicken or grilled fish for lunch or dinner, as well as sides of vegetables, of course. I also eat a lot of fruit. However, it is also important to splurge and treat yourself to something that you really want to have. For me, i (continued on page 14)

THE WESTERLY

Wichita Presbyterian Manor expands with the addition of a multi-million dollar independent living community.

assing through the intersection of 13th and Zoo Boulevard, Wichitans have surely noticed the construction equipment moving in and preparing the grounds for Presbyterian Manor's newest edition, an independent living community known as The Westerly Residences at Presbyterian Manor. The History For more than 60 years, Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America have been a place that many Wichita, and area seniors have called home. “We have served generations,” said Jill Coleman, Director of Sales for The Westerly Residences. By offering continuing care, residents are able to move into the independent living community and settle in knowing that they will be taken care of no matter what level of care they may eventually need. Though it may not seem like an easy task to take on a project like this in the middle of an existing neighborhood, Presbyterian Manor values their neighbors of more than 40 years. “We have an anchor to the community where we are at,” said Mark Schulte, Executive Director of Wichita Presbyterian Manor. “Wichita Presbyterian Manor has played a role in so many people's personal stories that it's important to help them see that the story is continuing, the quality will continue, and there will continue to be longevity in the Wichita area,”

said Coleman. “We are making the needed adjustments to stay competitive and to keep the quality high and that's important for us.” The Community Reservations are already being taken for the beautiful new Westerly Residences at Wichita Presbyterian Manor. New residents are able to choose from a few different floor plans, and because the community is still being built, people will be able to be more involved in the personalization of their apartment! The senior residents at The Westerly will have the opportunity to be part of decision making groups that meet regularly to give everyone the chance to voice their needs, and concerns. From what types of foods they would love to see served in the cafeteria, to different activities they would enjoy, these “residents run the show, and they always have,” said Amy Watson, Marketing Director and Senior Living Counselor for Wichita Presbyterian Manor. Independent living truly stands true at the Westerly. The residents not only get the opportunity to remain in the neighborhood that they have thrived in for so long, but the new community itself will offer even more entertainment! “This is an active place for active seniors who aren't done living,” said Watson. The Westerly will house a beautiful chapel, a new indoor aquatics center that residents can enjoy with

their families, on-site dining venues, beauty salon, barber shop, game areas and more! The residents of the community will have plenty of time to enjoy these amenities because their plan will include housekeeping, linen services and maintenance to help insure a “worry-free lifestyle.” Unique Health Care Plan When looking into independent living, individuals often question the “what if's.” What if I need more advanced care at a later time? If a senior finds themselves needing assisted, skilled nursing, memory care or even rehabilitation, it is all offered right here at Presbyterian Manor. Once a resident, the individual can remain a resident for life.

What if I can't afford the increase in care? The Westerly Residences at Presbyterian Manor is unique in the fact that your costs for Assisted Living, Memory Care or Skilled Nursing will come at a significant discount compared to the market rates for such care. The rates are equalized which ensures that those who live at The Westerly will have a more predictable rate when they need care. No other community in our area has the ability to offer such stability and financial security. What if I lose the ability to pay? Residents at The Westerly can have the comfort of knowing that if money runs out, the care continues. No one should ever fear the future of their health needs, and residents of this breathtaking
