Gov. Doug Ducey on May 11 signed House Bill 2592, which amends state laws to allow nonprofit organizations with memberships to conduct electronic balloting. The new law will take effect in 90 days, and paves the way for GVR and other nonprofits to conduct online balloting. Initiated by GVR and introduced by Rep. Chris Ackerley (R-Sahuarita) in February, the bill moved fairly quickly through state House and Senate with little or no opposition. Electronic balloting could save GVR up to $20,000 annually by not having to print, assemble and mail paper ballots. The legislation was endorsed and supported by GVR, the Greater Green Valley Community Foundation, the Green Valley Council, the Community Associations Institute Legislative Action Committee and the Green Valley/Sahuarita Chamber of Commerce.
