Stuart Roper

Painting and Illustration

Stuart Roper is a truly British artist. Having spent his early years growing up in the South of England, he moved north to Scotland in his teens. He now lives in rural Oxfordshire where he paints the light and the landscape near his home in the Vale of White Horse. His work shows the influence of the Scottish Colourists, yet he has a deep affinity with the English countryside. Working in a variety of media, his paintings reflect his life as an illustrator and designer with their strong sense of composition and keen draughtsmanship. With work exhibited in a number of galleries and with paintings in private collections all over the world, the reputation of this exciting painter goes from strength to strength. Flick through these pages and see some of his amazing work.

“Stuart sees the play of light as if refracted through a prism. He builds his compositions through gestural marks working in much the same way as the Impressionists, creating compositions that dance on the canvas. Jenny Blyth Fine Art
