coach of men’s basketball at the University of Michigan, took the reins as interim head coach for five games last season. Martelli, who began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Widener in 1977–78, spent 34 years at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia (24 years as head coach). At Saint Joseph’s, he was named the 2004 Associated Press men’s coach of the year after guiding Saint Joseph’s within one win of the Final Four. In addition, Martelli was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year four times (1997, 2001, 2004, and 2005),

the USBWA District Coach of the Year, twice (1997 and 2004), and the Philadelphia Big 5 Coach of the Year four times (1996, 1997, 2004, and 2016). He was 444-328 as the Hawks’ coach, including seven appearances in the NCAA tournament.

Class of 1978 Susan J. Farese, RN, recently published the 2nd edition of her book Poetic Expressions in Nursing: Sharing the Caring. This exciting collection of freeform poetry with 40+ poems is a sharing of both professional and personal thoughts and feelings. Farese is a strong advocate of the creative use of poetry to express the wonderment, frustration, dedication, and the love of nurses for their profession and their patients. Farese is a native of New

Jersey, received her BSN degree from Widener University and MSN from Seton Hall University. Her diversified nursing career includes military and civilian nursing.

Class of 1979 Fred Pondo was named Engineer of the Year 2022 by the Delaware County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE). Pondo has more than 40 years of experience in all phases of business and engineering and is currently the principal engineer for

Class of 1981 Helene Burns, RN, is the senior vice president and chief nursing officer at Jefferson Health New Jersey and was named president Lehigh University in civil engineering and dual master’s degrees from Widener University in structural engineering and business.

Class of 1980 Doreen McGowan Nixon participated in the swimming competition at The National Senior Games in Fort

Lauderdale in May 2022. Placed 7th in the 50 yard backstroke earning a ribbon, 11th in the 50

conference. SOAR brings together experts in resource management and offers actionable solutions for waste management facilities. Hoffman discussed the state of industry trends and the critical themes he believes will impact waste management over the next ten years. Hoffman has a degree in engineering from Widener University.

Class of 1985 Dale Plummer has been named the inaugural recipient of the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Region 19 Humanitarian Award for his outstanding character and service to others. Plummer, who earned

a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1985 and an MBA in 1990 and was the administrator and coach of the tennis team from 1985 to 1988 at Widener University, has been the director of athletics at Williamson College of the Trades since 1988. Plummer is involved in numerous humanitarian efforts, including helping to provide clean drinking water to citizens in Kenya, raising money at the YMCA for

underprivileged children to attend summer camp, and working with CityTeam to help provide Christmas presents for children.

Adrian Miller has been appointed vice president of Investor Relations for PAVmed, a commercial-stage cancer prevention diagnostics company. Miller will have broad strategic responsibilities across all aspects of investor communications, as well as a specific focus on institutional investors. Miller has more than 20 years of experience in communications across the capital markets landscape. He received his undergraduate degree in accounting and finance from Widener University.

Class of 1997 Christian Nascimento, a Widener graduate and member of the Board of Trustees, is running to represent Pennsylvania’s fourth Congressional District. Nascimento, an executive at Comcast and former president of the Methacton School District Board of School Directors, plans to focus his campaign on digital infrastructure, access to education, and increased manufacturing. Nascimento holds a degree in accounting from Widener University.

Class of 1998 Leth Oun recently co-authored A Refugee’s American Dream: From the Killing Fields of Cambodia to the U.S. Secret Service with former Widener employee

Samuel Starnes (pictured above; Oun is on the left). Born in Cambodia in 1966, Leth was nine when his father, an officer in the Cambodian army, was executed by the invading Khmer Rouge. Leth was enslaved for almost four years in the Killing Fields, where he almost starved to death, lost many loved ones to the atrocities committed by the Khmer Rouge, and at one point was tortured. After the Killing Fields, he spent one year homeless and then three years in refugee camps before he immigrated to America at the age of seventeen, penniless and speaking very little English. He worked numerous minimum wage jobs and persevered to earn a college degree and ultimately become

an officer in the Secret Service, where he has served since 2002 and has fulfilled countless assignments under four presidential administrations, including handling a dog trained to detect explosives. His life story is one of being a witness to one of the worst genocides in history, of tragedy, survival, and recovery, and of finding success in America. It also is a story of his love for two countries, for his family, for his dogs, and for his life as a U.S. Secret Service officer.

Class of 2007 Isabelle Baker is a Mindfulness Meditation guide located in central Virginia. She says, “I have a background in

education, outreach, and meditation. My beautiful journey with mindfulness meditation began over three years ago as a passion that grew into a personal practice. With a desire to teach youth, I received formal training from Mindful Schools and earned 300 hours in the Mindful Schools Teaching Certification Program. In addition to teaching Mindfulness Meditation to children K–12, I also teach the Kindness Curriculum to preschoolers. I am also the creator of Mommy and Me Meditation and the author of The Mindfulness in Me. I am super grateful that my work has appeared in the 2021 Autumn/Winter edition of Meditation Magazine and honored to be chosen as one of 115 most influential women in meditation. I am a proud Widener University alumna and hold a BA, as

Catherine DeHart received her doctorate in higher education leadership from Widener University in August 2021 and is currently the executive director of the College of the Albemarle Foundation in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

Ruggles spent six years at Brown University overseeing peer education programs and previously served as the director of the Sexuality and Resource Center for SUNY Oneonta in New York. Ruggles holds degrees in social work and human sexuality from Widener University.

Warren Anderson, EdD, was selected as the inaugural vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. Dr. Anderson has

served as senior equity, diversity, and inclusion officer for the University of Wisconsin System and as vice chancellor for equity, diversity,

inclusion, and student affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Anderson is a graduate of Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in elementary and secondary education. He holds a master’s degree in multicultural education from Eastern University in St. David’s, Pennsylvania, and a doctorate in higher education from Widener University.

Ryan Raiker has been promoted to the senior director of product marketing for ABBY. Raiker, a process mining and digital marketing expert, will spearhead the company’s global process mining product-marketing strategy with the goal of continuing aggressive revenue growth. Scharadin holds a degree in accounting from Widener University.

Olivia Yace, a marketing and management graduate from Widener’s School of Business Administration, was recently named the second runner up in the Miss World pageant. Yace, who represented Cote d’Ivoire, will now advance to the Miss World competition. Yace, who speaks French, Spanish, and English, aspires to work in event management and plans to pursue an advanced degree in business or event planning.

Leto was also one of the longest standing directors of Bryn Mawr and Bryn Mawr Trust, having served on the Boards of Directors from 2002 to 2021, including as lead independent director from 2006 through 2009. Active in the community, Leto’s charitable work includes board positions with The Andalusia Foundation, The Bryn Mawr Hospital Foundation, and Pennsylvania Bankers Association. Class of 1993 Joseph M. Asher, Esq., was appointed by International Game Technology, PLC, as president of Sports Betting. Asher will lead the ongoing expansion of the IGT PlaySports sports betting business in North American markets. Asher joins IGT having recently served as CEO of William Hill U.S. He held this position from 2012, when the business was created, until it was sold to Caesars Entertainment, Inc., in April 2021. Asher joined William Hill when it acquired Brandywine Bookmaking, a company he created as a start-up in 2008. “I’m really excited to join Enrico Drago and the IGT PlaySports team to help this business reach new heights for our customers and our shareholders,” said Asher. “This is a unique moment in the North American gaming industry, as sports betting is expanding rapidly and opportunities abound. I have some background working in partnership with PlaySports, and I look forward to working with our team to further enhance our technology and trading capabilities to serve our existing and future customers.” Asher’s background in the gaming industry is

built on a lifelong passion for the race and sports betting business. Honored as a member of the Sports Betting Hall of Fame Class of 2021, he has held management positions at several racetracks, including Brandywine Raceway, Dover Downs, Harrington Raceway, and Foxboro Raceway. Asher was also the Wilmington News-Journal’s thoroughbred racing handicapper for Delaware Park. He became the youngest track announcer in North America, calling races at Harrington, Foxboro, Brandywine, and Dover Downs. Asher continues to announce horse races, serving as a guest

announcer at the Elko County Fair every year. Outside of his career in sports betting, Asher was an attorney with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. A graduate of the University of Delaware and the Delaware Law School of Widener University, Asher served a judicial clerkship with

the Supreme Court of Delaware and was admitted to the bar in Delaware and New York.

Class of 1993 Stephen A. Saville, Esq., became president of SkillGigs, Inc. SkillGigs announced leadership

expansion with Saville as president providing strategic and operational oversite for the entire company in addition to serving as a member of the company’s board of directors. For 30 years, Saville has built, led, and sold staffing and workforce management organizations. Previously, Saville served as group president for Cross Country Healthcare, assisting its CEO and executive team. Prior to this, Saville served as president of CareerStaff Unlimited. Other previous roles include serving as senior vice president of Workforce Solutions and leading Genesis Healthcare, the largest provider of post-acute skilled nursing care in the nation. Throughout the

Class of 1995 Thomas J. Kent Jr., Esq., has joined Saxton

& Stump as shareholder, forming Saxton & Stump’s Franchising, Licensing and Distribution practice, having previously practiced as Kent Franchise Law Group, LLC, a Stevens & Lee company. Kent and his team will continue to focus on partnering with clients on their franchising, licensing, and distribution legal needs. “We are pleased to be joining the Saxton & Stump platform, which provides our clients with greater access to resources through the

Guagliardo has been welcomed as a partner in Dentons’ venture technology and emerging growth companies practice and is based out of the firm’s office in New York’s Meatpacking District. Guagliardo told Law360 that he left his partnership at Troutman Pepper and is making the commute from his home in the

Guagliardo’s experience includes drafting and negotiating commercial agreements or acting as outside general counsel for technology companies. Guagliardo has been involved with the technology industry since before he went to law school, having held a job designing software for financial technology and global systems integration.
