NYCHOS || TRANSLUCENT FEAR ||
"Translucent Fear" The title of this exhibition deserves some explanation. Nychos, a young and promising Austrian artist from the graffiti movement is also passionate of anatomy. At night, he paints along the canals in Vienna. The day, he spends his time at the Natural History Museum to improve his knowledge in the field. He even has an annual pass. After a break trough on the art scene with his famous works of dissection, he gives us the privilege to see his first exhibition with his translucent style. To get the desired rendering, Nychos must compose his paintings as follows: first he draws the bones, then he fills the background in black. He can now paint the different blood vessels and the nervous system. The last step is the translucent color, this step leaves him no room for error and the application must be perfect from beginning to end. This is how he completes each proposed canvases: in fear. Fortunately, his talent will have won against fear‌ this exhibition promises to be memorable!

NYCHOS THE WEIRD The Austrian urban art and graffiti illustrator Nychos was born in 1982 in Styria, Austria where he grew up in a hunting family. Getting confronted by the anatomy of dead animals at an early age and being an 80’s kid with an interest for cartoons and heavy metal ended up being some of the ingredients which inspired him when he started graffiti and painting at the age of 18. Over the years he developed a distinctive style which stands out – his dissections and cross sections of human and animal bodies are easily recognized. The focus and reinterpretation of dissected motives in a combination of colorful outlines can be seen as his branding. He is well known for his huge and technically outstanding art pieces in the urban environment as well as several gallery exhibitions. In 2013 he had solo shows in Detroit (Inner State Gallery), New York (Mighty Tanaka) and Turin (Galo Art Gallery), besides traveling the world, painting in over 15 different cities and participating in Art Basel Miami Beach, Pow Wow Hawaii and many other events. In 2014 he had two solo shows in San Francisco (Fifty24SF) and Singapore (Mighty Jaxx) amongst a set of festivals, events, conferences and fairs. He’s currently seen as one of the most sought-after artists of the street art scene. “Combining the comic character with how a body actually works is really interesting to me”. (Nychos, March 2013)
Nychos is the founder of Rabbit Eye Movement: Rabbit Eye Movement (REM) originally started as a street art concept, created by the urban/graffiti artist and illustrator Nychos in 2005. It fueled and defined the artwork Nychos spread on the streets for the next seven years, and in 2012 he acquired a home for REM to live. Located in the heart of Vienna, the Rabbit Eye Movement Art Space is now a full time gallery and agency dedicated to pushing the same movement that created it. “I created the ‘Rabbit Eye Movement’ as an homage to all the “Rabbits” out there who are active in the Urban Art Movement. It doesn’t matter what kind of mission they are following.” - Nychos REM connects and promotes a network of artists, both national and international, and many with a background in illustration. The art space is a multi-purpose platform for these artists, acting as an illustration, gallery and shop full of unique artist-sourced gear. With the recent addition of a coffee shop, the REM art space is the perfect place to get your caffeine fix while amongst some of the leading contemporary artwork in Vienna.
