Time at the Bar LATE NIGHT CONCERT WITH IGNITE Friday 22 June 10.00 pm – 10.45 pm FREE
Musicians from the RNCM bring works spanning three decades of music by one of this country’s most highly regarded composers, Colin Matthews. From early works for piano to recent works for voice and strings, the day offers a perfect opportunity to hear a wide range of Matthews’s outstanding chamber music. The event reflects both his fascination with speed in music as well as his service to other composers, especially Debussy, through his beautiful and sensitive arrangements. Matthews himself will be in conversation with leading composer Philip Cashian and broadcaster Tom Service.
Wigmore Hall Learning’s resident ensemble, Ignite, specialises in taking chamber music beyond the concert hall; and where better to take it than the intimate and informal setting of the Wigmore Hall Restaurant? Relax and enjoy a drink whilst listening to new music by both young and established composers, sprinkled with dazzling improvisation. A must for jazz and contemporary music enthusiasts, as well as anyone wanting to see chamber music performed outside the box. Ignite is supported by Arts Council England, Mayfield Valley Arts Trust and The Monument Trust.
