8. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ROSEHIP OIL AND ARGAN OIL? Rosehip oil and Argan oil are both used in skincare. Rosehip oil is obtained from the seeds of a plant in the Rosaceae family, and has the ability to inhibit free radical damage induced by UV rays. It also contains vitamin C, vitamin A, linoleic acid and other antioxidants that protect skin cells from oxidative sun exposure. Argan oils are obtained from the kernels of an argan tree which has an appearance similar to a tree fern. They have emollient properties which help hydrate dry skin as well as reduce wrinkles and scars that result from poor moisture levels within skin cells. Both oils have antioxidant activity, reduce inflammation and are rich in vitamins E and C. Rosehip oil also contains essential fatty acids, as well as the plant sterols beta-carotene, lycopene and lutein. Argan oil is particularly rich in vitamin E. In a study conducted on patients with acne vulgaris, Rosehip oil was shown to improve the appearance of acne lesions compared to other treatment options such as 2% erythromycin gel (a first generation topical antibiotic) or Retinoid cream 0.05%. Similarly, patients with atopic eczema who were treated with Argan oil had significantly less inflammation compared to those treated with a placebo or petroleum jelly.
