hallway storage and seating To design a product that will fit well within the SCP Boxed Collection. It should have value built in through the materials, method of manufacture or through the design itself. Bold experimental designs are welcome as well as more utilitarian objects. Traditional materials are something that SCP tend to work with but are open to new materials if methods of manufacture are possible. Current changes in lifestyle and emerging trends should be investigated to inform the design.
The main body of this product is made out of ash. Ideally the cushion would be made out of the wool fabrics designed by Donna Wilson for SCP. However, other fabrics could be used to make it. The dowel legs, frame as well as the shelf support are attached to the base with dowel joints.

DESIGN DONKEY
The design donkey is inspired by the Isokon Penguin Donkeys and follows their specific furniture typology - a portable free-standing storage form. It has been designed to act as a small plywood storage unit in which the user is able to store their most needed arts and design products.
It includes sections dedicated to A4 and A5 sheets, shelf which is high enough for paint pots and glue sticks as well as a rounded base compartment in which the user can store objects such as pens, rulers and tapes. Additional storage is created on the side panels with the use of bungee elastic. On one of the side panels the user is able to store rolled up objects such as magazines or cutting mats and on the other objects such as stationary and notes. The side panels extend above the flat top to provide the user with two handles for easier transportation of the donkey. The flat top acts as a surface on which the user can complete some quick work or use as additional storage space.

stack.
To design and manufacture a contemporary storage solution that could provide protection and preservation of items that can be found within a contemporary home, while still presenting them.
This storage unit is easily stackable and the height can be adjusted to suit the user’s needs. An extra shelf has also been made to cover up the joints if the unit is not built up to it’s tallest height. The ability to take apart the product means that the user can place each of the compartments in a different place around their home. It is made out of plywood, aluminium tubes, acrylic and ABS.

Transporting memories
As human beings we are creatures of habit; we all have our own way of doing everyday things. In a busy fast-changing world these little rituals offer momentary respite; a little reassurance and maybe a chance to reinforce a sense of self and to impose your own rule on the chaos of life. The family of objects you create must tell a personal story and must have a narrative; whether this be through the objects or even the materials that they are made out of. “Transporting memories is focused around cakes, Polish Easter basket, family and memories.
The two bowls, made out of elm and earthenware, which are placed in the jute basket are for the two types of cakes (drozdzowki and babeczki) that have a particular importance to me and bring back positive memories. They remind me of home (Poland) as well as the time when I lived with my grandmas. Whenever I go back to Poland I always get them, and bring them back to England for my family here, therefore the basket acts as a form of transportation for them and the memories that come with them. The basket is similar to Polish Easter baskets in which people place certain food and go to Church to make it holy which reinforces the importance of the cakes. It has an open bottom, leaving the base of the wooden bowl exposed, to show the wear of time on it and that the transportation of memories is continuing to happen. The top bowl is covered with a crochet napkin that my family uses to cover our Easter basket. It has been made by my great-grandma and acts as a protection for the cakes in the top bowl.

MODULAR SEATING SOLUTION To design a modular seating solution suitable to be used within hotel reception/ lobby spaces. Due to the changing use of hotel lobbies the seating should also be suitable to use in co-working spaces such as offices. This modular seating solution is made up of 3 different sized seats: single, double and a 3 seater.
Often people come to ‘3rd spaces’ (such as hotel lobbies/ co-working environments) to get away from distractions at home or for a change of scenery to complete their work. The arm rests act as a divider between each of the seating spaces and creates a ‘closed’ space for the user. They can also double up as a flat surface on which the users can place their laptops, notebooks, drinks or other belongings. People coming to hotel lobbies might want to be alone but not lonely, therefore the arm rests dividers as well as low back rests would suit their needs. Gaps in between back rests and their round shape create a more interesting aesthetic, both when placed individually as well as when placed back to back. Varied height sizes have been incorporated into the design to add texture and different levels however, none of the back rests exceeds the height of 500mm. This is so that the users can still talk to the people around them.

COLOUR AND TEXTURE To design a product which will act as a stress reliever and organisation tool through the combined use of colour and texture. Their psychological effects should be taken into consideration. The product should be able to be placed within a workspace environment, ideally on a desk.
This organiser can be placed flat on the desk, leaning against a wall or hung up. The user is able to slot their loose pens, notes and other desk accessories between the elastic. While they are using it for storage they can also feel the variety of textures that are places on top of the wooden base, helping them to relax. Attached are soft textures which are associated with comfort and relaxation, smooth textures which relate to something nice and pleasurable and hard textures which are associated with strength. To add an element of play, beads are woven through the elastics. Colours are limited to green, yellow, orange/red and blue. This is due to their individual psychological effects which are balance and calmness of green, sense of comfort of orange, yellow stimulates positivity, blue provides stability and red represents strength.

UPCYCLED LIGHT
Think about the waste items that you are throwing away and challenge the value and potential of waste – both as a raw material and a design tool. No longer can you consider rubbish as worthless, but a rich resource of unexplored opportunity. Create a light out of waste material.
This lamp is made out of 20 used PET bottles. Each of the bottles is cut in half, folded and threaded to create a whole piece. No glue was used and the pieces are only joined by thread and wool. The clear plastic bottles give the cloud like effect, creating a lightweight construction that can be hung above a dining room table or in a bedroom.

the view diorama Create a diorama portraying your dream world. Present meaning through different parts of the piece. My ideal world is where peace, equality and respect are shown to everyone and everything. The steps represent the journey of life towards one’s goals. On each of the steps a different symbol is present linking back to the main themes of this diorama. The symbols are the LGBT flag, gender equality sign, a white rose representing the ‘Me Too’ movement and the peace sign. People of different races are sitting on the steps to emphasize the idea of equality. The whole of my world is supported by flowers to show that without nature we would not exist and respect needs to be shown towards it. The triangular shapes show that in life there will always be good and bad however, the neon colour shining through it represents the idea of something good coming out of the bad.

GEOM.
To design and manufacture a contemporary dining table that would allow a minimum of 4 people to sit around it. The product should encourage people to socialise and eat with each other as people with busy lifestyles often tend to spend lots of time alone without their family or friends. It should fit in with the design of a contemporary home.
The table top has been made out of white washed pine, decorated with laser cut acrylic. The legs have been made out of copper tubes. Many people often place a 3D centre piece on their tables, such as a vase, which takes up space. To solve this problem the acrylic strip in the middle of the table acts as a 2D decoration piece that is already incorporated into the design of the table, therefore saving space.

PHOTOGRAPHY
A selection of photographs presenting how geometry and pattern can be incorporated into everyday objects and surroundings.
Main themes within my photography are geometry, pattern, everyday objects and architecture.
W I K T O R I A K I J O W S K A I am a passionate and dedicated design student. I strive hard to complete tasks to a high quality and I am organised and selfmotivated. My predominant interest is furniture design, however I am open to experiment in and learn about other fields of design. I enjoy both the designing and making aspects of the process. As a designer I want to create products that will have a positive impact on people’s lives; whether that is because of the function of the product or its aesthetics.
