Falla – a droplet of Nordic nature

FALLA – handblown glassware Picture the beautiful shape of a droplet of water hanging on the end of a leaf, the slight tremble one barely registers, before the drop with a slight sigh lets go and starts its journey towards the ground. The name Falla – from Old Norwegian – alludes to precisely this falling droplet, shaped by nature itself. The Arctic flora and fauna inspire the colours, with nuances of moss green, ice blue and dusty pink. Some of the vases are translucent, while others have a white interior which brings to mind a frosty pond in the midst of winter.

We can head down the well-trodden path, or we can choose to make our own path into the unknown; letting the branches protect and embrace us, revelling in the changing moods of the forest. From the earthy scent of the spring awakening to the frosty breath of winter, the forest is our haven of peace and tranquillity. Whitewood – pure white simplicity
WHITEWOOD – high fired porcelain Whitewood is one of the simplest and cleanest of Wik & Walsøe´s tableware designs, but it is also one of the most interesting when it comes to texture. The texture of the tableware is inspired by Nordic crafts with simple reliefs, barely visible stripes circling the shapes, creating a soft, whispering form of minimalism.

Slåpe Rosa – wild & beautiful
SLÅPE ROSA – translucent Bone China Blackthorn (Prunus Spinosa) is a shrub in the rose family, which thrives in the open countryside or in coastal regions. In earlier times there was a belief that the plant had supernatural powers, and it has often been associated with witchcraft. Due to its branches that bear thick thorns, blackthorn can be perceived as a little wild and inaccessible – even though the flower is white and delicate. But when it flowers in early May, and basks in glow of the early morning sun, the flowers show themselves in a soft pinkish hue. These pink flowers adorn Wik & Walsøes bone china tableware; Rosa Slåpe. Slåpe Rosa is subdued, elegant and slightly nostalgic – with its pink flowers dancing lightly on the edge of the tableware.

Snø – a gentle snowfall
SNØ – Translucent Bone China The purity and brilliance of snow inspired the bone china tableware series Snø. Snow is the poetry of winter, falling silently and covering the ground with a soft veil of whiteness. In much the same way a gentle circular pattern of tiny flakes lightly adorn the edges of the shimmering translucent tableware of the bone china tableware; Snø, the Norwegian word for snow. The Snø tableware is characterized by its simple, yet ethereal, elegance and versatility. It will look beautiful on its own, or combined with differing patterns. Experiment with a totally white on white table, or bring in other elements of nature, such as branches, flowers or earthy colours.

The design studio Wik & Walsøe Linda Svedal Walsøe is a designer who graduated from Esmod International in 1993. She has worked with design and product development ever since. In 2006 she was part of the launch of the design studio Wik & Walsøe. The Norwegian design studio Wik & Walsøe was established in 2006. In only a few short years they managed to make their mark as a distinctive new voice within fine porcelain and glass production. Wik & Walsøe is now a major brand in the Norwegian and Scandinavian market, and their products are sold in selected stores internationally. In 2013 Wik & Walsøe were awarded the Female Entrepreneur of the year prize by Innovation Norway.
