Introducing Pench!
It was the end of May 2017, the temperature a blustery 44 degrees. We were staying at Pench Tree House Lodge by Pugdundee Safaris. This was our second visit to Pench. What a beautiful jungle, Rudyard Kipling was absolutely spot on with his descriptions of this jungle in The Jungle Book. This place felt just like home.
We were told that the resident tigress Collarwali had just given birth to four cubs and frequented a watering hole almost every day. As usual we were excited and wanted to see her cubs. During our first safari, we saw her momentarily, before she vanished into the trees. We didn't get to see her during the evening safari. The next morning, we got to the same watering hole ahead of the other vehicles and took our spot and waited for Collarwali. It was such a treat to watch her as she came through the bushes and passed through the midst of our vehicles to the watering hole. Her cubs didn't accompany her this time. She put on a hell of show, walked around, scouted the area and sat in the water sunning herself. It felt like she was there for a photo shoot. We watched her for about an hour, and then we decided to see what more our fortune had in store for us that day. We saw the usual suspects, Cheetal, Gaur,
Langur, Indian Roller, Hornbills and then, when we least expected it, there they were, two leopard cubs, on the rocks, trying to get cozy for a snooze.
Their mother was nowhere in the vicinity. She was probably on her rounds or hunting for prey. This felt like another photo shoot, with t h e male cub, walking around, posing for us. It was a surreal experience and a highlight of our visit to Pench.
We got to see the male cub again the next evening playing peek-a-boo with us from behind a rock. We saw Collarwali everyday and the jungle was incredibly kind to us as on our last safari, just as we were about to leave the park, we got a glimpse of Collarwali and her cubs lying in wait for the vehicles to leave, so she could bring her cubs to the watering hole. We had such an amazing experience and cannot wait to head back to Pench and see how they are doing."

The Hide & Seek!
This young leopard was seen at Pench, Turia on a hilly terrain late one morning. It was a reasonably hot summer day, and this leopard had made a kill probably in the early morning hours, and hidden it amongst the large rocks prevalent in the area. It crossed the road, probably for a drink of water in a small pool nearby, and returned for a brief moment of rest upon this rock. Varun Mani // WIF India.

The Ancestors best EXPRESSION’ Specie Name: Rhesus Macaque or Macaca Mulatta Location: Pench National Park, Seoni, Madhya Pradesh Author of the Image: Lokesh Tardalkar
The rhesus macaque is one of the best-known species of old Monkey. Whose DNA almost matches with humans? One of the Finest Jungle of Central India with amazing avifauna, wildlife and lovely landscapes. This forest is big offering all the time from its core zones to buffers. Loaded with amazing big cat activity the wildlife in general is also in abundance. It was late morning around 930 am when we were trying get glimpses of the Show Stopper and Pride of India ‘Collarwali” (A female tigress each photographers dream to capture). We got the news that she is on the move and likely to come near her regular patrolling area. We waited for almost 50 minutes before she came off in front of us. But before that there was a family of these monkeys came very near to our vehicle. I did observe them for few minutes before I could see this amazing expressive sub adult monkey sitting exactly where I could make good image with parallel angle and mixed light. I was quick enough to see the drama and angle of light around late morning and made sure I don’t disturb the monkey on that spot. For next 2 minutes monkey settled on that spot and allowed me amazing image making opportunities. I made amazing images with different expression from which this one is really came out at right time and with perfect exposure the way I wanted to be. I always knew that monkey serves as amazing photogenic animal if they settle on required spot and I waited for more opportunities for next few minutes as well. When animals in natural habitat gives you those spectacular opportunities to make images you can't just miss those moments. In fact you are blessed to witness them and treasure them with you forever.

Shot during a safari on my visit to Pench National Park in mid of May. Even during a basic task of drinking water, the Monkey has to stay alert from the dangers on land, water & from above! We reached the water hole after hearing some alert calls made me the Sambars from a nearby location, No Big Cat was spotted there but there was a heard of alert Sambars nearby, monkeys & Langoors already taking covers up in the tree sure meant a big cat was there, if not still present perfectly camouflaged. But the heat in the month of May is no joke, thirst is a luxury one might end by paying up with their life. This monkey couldn't wait & was so thirsty that it went ahead to drink from the water hole but being alert & aware of the possible predators on land, water & from above. Out guide later informed that at times Langoors take cover inside hollow tree trunks (which we witnessed) & some die due to dehydration there itself.

The Story of a Flying Peacock! Manas National Park in upper Assam is a wonderland, to say the least! A UNESCO Heritage Site, Manas National Park shares an international unarmed border area between India and Bhutan! Famous as a house of snow leopards, Indian tigers, golden cats, golden langurs and several herds of Asian elephants, Manas National Park is also a safe haven for the threatened population of the Indian one-horned rhino! We went on a safari to the interiors of the Manas National Park on a rainy day! The jungle situated at the foothills of Himalaya gets an abundance of rainfall, thus the lush greenery everywhere! Rain makes the peacocks rejoice. There was peacocks' scream everywhere, "Keka" as the locals call it! They came out of the bush, danced in glee, sat atop the branches of evergreen forest in search of a mate, transforming the jungle into a fairytale land! We spotted at least 20 peacocks in different moods in an expanse of 8 KM! They come to the border area of the jungle and villages often! On the return from a long afternoon in the heat at Keoladeo Ghana, with plenty of bird sightings in the bag and a few Chital sightings, we were yet to see any of the predatory mammals that make the park their home. We were hoping that in the final 2km stretch on the return to the front gate we may be lucky enough to see one of these beautiful wild canines, with our rickshaw driver telling us in broken English "if lucky, you see jackal here", which once more increased our hopes. My girlfriend spotted the pair of Jackals as they disturbed some of the resting cows within the sandy clearings, we jumped off the Rickshaw, I was able to fire a handful of shots in the golden light, with one of them staring right at me through the foliage before they quickly scurried off deeper into the park. It was definitely an encounter to remember! Bradley Hamer Photography // WIF India

- Birding
Story-My uncle took me for the first bird watching trip when I was 9. I fell in love with the birds. I get amazed every time I see a new species that how beautiful Mother Nature is!!
A bird enthusiast friend of mine told me about a rare sighting of Paradise Flycatchers in Udaipur. Excited, I grabbed my gears and went on in a hope to get a glimpse which even after 2 hours of searching and roaming in jungle, we couldn't. I sat down by a tree and heard a shrill call and I knew it was the flycatcher. I witnessed 2 males fighting.
Before I could take out my camera, they disappeared. They came back and I was lucky to get a shot of this bird in white plumage which is rare. It was a beautiful experience of photographing this angelic beauty. Vaidehi Mehta // WIF India Jaipur .

That hot sunny morning in the meadows of Pench, was filled with the vibe of mystery and opportunity all at once. As we set off with the unvaried agenda of clicking the grand tiger in the forest, we traced the huge feline, following his fresh pugmarks in the jungle. The task was a tedious one, and the showstopper of the forest was nowhere to be seen. The search ended abruptly after an hour's ride in the scorching heat amidst alarm calls of the Sambar deer. Much to our surprise, we were greeted by another one of the jungle's habitants. A few meters away, a lonely jackal marched towards our gypsy. Reassured, that we weren't going to return without any remarkable photographs, I decided to shoot something other than the usual close-ups this time. My 200mm lens was on and I shot the jackal within its habitat depicting the relationship he shares with the dry deciduous forest.

Even the migration of some birds is also increasing like there has been sighting of lesser white fronted goose in Thol, Gujarat and even Baikal Teal was spotted in Bhavnagar during this year. It already has so many amounts of animals and species to explore and it keeps on increasing day by day.
2. When did you first realize to select Wildlife Photography? I was fond of birds when I was a little kid so I used to observe them a lot. When I got my first camera I started to capture birds around my house like Common Myna and pigeons. I started to explore more of the outskirts of the city and was really interested to identify and capture bird species. As I started to explore more I realized the wildlife around us is so amazing. Seeing my interest towards wildlife my dad gifted me a professional camera so I could explore and learn more. I’ve never stopped since then.

3. Pench or Ranthambhore which one you will select to Photograph Wild Animals? I would gladly select Ranthambhore because it has a beautiful landscape along with some low hills and steep outcrops which are perfect to capture the beauty of a Tiger. Some of the best sightings have been reported of tigers in Ranthambhore over past few times. And it also includes some variety of bird species which is a treat for a photographer.
4. What is your opinion about Indian Wildlife Conservation? India is gifted with variety of wildlife and we should conserve it as more as possible. There are many communities and government working on wildlife conservation through workshops, wildlife tours, lectures to aware people about the necessity of nature. There are many projects going on right now like Project Tiger, Jungle lodges and Nature camps, it helps us to understand the importance of eco-tourism also on a smaller scale. The more people get aware about the current situation and how it is going to affect our wildlife in future the more steps will be taken to protect the nature. 31

5. Why you chose Owl as a bird to shoot? My first sighting of owl was Mottled Wood Owl in Sasangir which was very camouflaged and hard to see from distance. So I came to knew how much an owl is capable to camouflage. One of my very best friend and my big brother Janmejaysinh Jadeja taught me about owls and guided me how to find and photograph them. After that whenever I look at any owl it just makes me feel really good that I can’t even explain how happy I feel about it. My most favorite owl is Indian eagle owl which is a master in camouflage and it has beautiful eyes.

Title - The Travelers Location - Rajaji National Park, Haridwar 1st September, 2018 the sun was about to set and I was heading back home from my shoot around river Ganga in a search of Local Elephants near the Rajaji National Park range of Chilla Range in Haridwar. It was already a very limited light to shoot for and these wonderful Deers were out for a walk in search of their food. There were a whole lot of deer together but my eyes spotted these two deer enjoying their own company near a fallen tree which was a good backdrop for me as an additional prop which was a perfect frame for me to shoot for. I opened my door of my car slowly and gradually scrolled down to a closer spot where I could get a clear shot and waited for a perfect action and pose. It was around 6:30 PM and was whole dark for a camera sensor to hit the light for. Seeing them was a very peaceful beauty of nature.

I pointed my camera towards the way the guide was showing and I couldn't believe what I was about to shoot - a big Motted Wood Owl just in front of me. It was a very overwhelming experience for me.
