Newsletter Issue 2 Summer 2015
At our last meeting in May we had a talk about Mindfulness, and advice from a physio on exercise and Pulmonary Rehab., which included a discussion on oximeters, and a period for separate discussion groups of patients and their carers. Tea and cake were enjoyed by all !
News Charitable Status- Dr Sophie Fletcher and Chris Brown met with Suzie Simmons, Fundraising Manager for Southampton Hospital Charity to discuss the way forward. SHC has been looking after our funds as a sub-account of their own charitable account. They are willing to continue with this for the time being, and the benefits to us are that they do all the charity paperwork, bank the money, and will allow us to use their charity number. Our funds will be separate and only accessible to us - the only condition is that we should incorporate their logo into any publicity or fundraising material (posters, collections tins etc.) but is does not need to be prominent and we will retain our own strong separate identity. We can also use their JustGiving facility without incurring the (to us) unaffordable monthly fee. So, no admin, no banking - no brainer!
Shine Awards 2015 - Excellence in Education and Training for the NHS The WILD initiative was among more than 160 nominations received and was in the category ‘Hearing the Patient Voice in Education and Training’. The description of this category is as follows:Involving patients, carers, their families and friends in designing and delivering education and training programmes is key to improving quality and ensuring that education and training has the right impact. We want to recognise the team or individual who has made sure that the patient voice is heard in education and training. This award can be for a specific project or initiative, or because there is an ongoing commitment to include patients, clients and carers in education and training. The Health Education Wessex goal of Integrated Patient Care describes a workforce designed to meet people’s needs in integrated care pathways which work across organisational and professional boundaries. Sophie, as named lead but including others on the team, was Commended and she is invited to an Awards Ceremony at the Grand Harbour Hotel on Thursday October 15th. She will be able to present a poster representing the team’s work at the event - another opportunity to publicise WILD!
