Long extinct in North America, horses were re-introduced to the continent by Spanish explorers in the late-15th century. Compact in size, powerful and intelligent, these new arrivals often escaped their handlers, banding together into vast herds in the remote West. Today, as many as 100,000 wild Mustangs roam free on public lands, continuing to embody the pioneering spirit and freedom of the American West.
