A man and a friend are playing golf one day at their local golf course. One of the guys is about to chip onto the green when he sees a long funeral procession on the road next to the course. He stops in mid-swing, takes off his golf cap, closes his eyes, and bows down in prayer. His friend says: “Wow, that is the most thoughtful and touching thing I have ever seen. You truly are a kind man.” The man then replies: “Yeah, well we were married 35 years.”

Dear Tourist by

Chef Vince Chiarella - Owner

Hanna Lomonaco Clean Ocean Action: Operation Wildwood Warm golden sand pleasantly tickles your toes while the sun is kissing your face with gentle warmth and soothing ocean sounds calm your mind and soul... Who doesn’t appreciate a day to unwind at the beautiful beaches on the Jersey shore? Whose little children don’t enjoy watching seagulls quarrel, little crabs crawl around in the sand and even an occasional dolphin family drop by to say hello from a distant wave? But the truth is sometimes our enjoyment is ruined by a pile of trash that mysteriously materialized right in the middle of our favorite sandy spot that was perfectly clean the last time we visited the beach or a sight of a giant dirty plastic bag washed ashore exactly when and where we decided to go for a refreshing swim… Garbage doesn’t just unarguably ruin usually striking ocean’s ambiance and our overall beach experience, but it is also incredibly dangerous and harmful to marine life! Ocean critters of all shapes and sizes get tangled in those same plastic bags and choke on pieces of hazardous trash such as cigarette butts and straws and end up permanently injured or worse, die helpless unable to save themselves from the side effects of human interactions with nature. We try to be more responsible and at least clean up after ourselves, but sometimes it’s just not enough! This is why a non-profit organization Clean Ocean Action made it its mission to improve the quality of ocean waters off the New Jersey and New York shores through education, research, laws and citizens’ initiative. Twice a year Clean Ocean Action organizes Beach Sweeps programs to free our beaches of unbecoming and dangerous debris and help preserve ocean’s natural environment and marine life. Volunteers gather at certain designated sites and not only pick up the trash, but also gather and catalog important information about types of waste, which is later compiled into annual reports that are used to petition for and establish new laws to reduce littering and protect our beautiful ocean. The last Beech Sweep was held on October 22, 2011 with 105 people in attendance at our local Wildwood site alone! Volunteers from the neighboring community met at 9 a.m. at the Poplar Ave beach where the site’s Beach Captain Jessica Mumford directed our local clean ocean action. It was an all-inclusive join-when-you-can leave-when-you-want bring-a-friend event, where volunteers had fun socializing and coming together as part of something great while helping our wonderful neighbor ocean and preserving its magnificent glory for the future South Jersey generations of beach lovers to come! The next Beach Sweeps will be held on April 21, 2012 and October 20, 2012. The list of Cape May County specific locations is provided below. The full list of Beech Sweep cites can be found at http://www.cleanoceanaction. org. Groups of 10 or more are encouraged to pre-register on-line at http:// www.cleanoceanaction.org/index.php?id=aboutbeachsweeps#c1036 or by calling COA’s Sandy Hook at 732-872-0111. Pick a location, pick a date, go on the website to learn more and don’t be afraid to make a difference! CAPE MAY COUNTY LOCATIONS: •Cape May- Nature Center of Cape May (1600 Delaware Ave.) •Del Haven - Sunray Beach at Roosevelt Ave. •North Wildwood - 15th Ave. at Beach Patrol Building •Ocean City - (2 sites)- 1. 9th St. Music Pier - Site Sponsored by New Jersey American Water 2. 57th St. Beach •Sea Isle City - JFK Blvd. Beach (October 15th) •Strathmere - Webster Ave. Beach •Stone Harbor - 95th St. Beach •Wildwood - Poplar Ave. Beach •Cape May City - 2nd Ave Beach - Site Sponsored by Lower Cape May Regional Education Association.

Useless Information It’s getting kind of quiet in the Wildwoods. Went for a ride on the boardwalk the other day and saw about three people end to end. My father used to joke that you could shoot a cannonball down the boardwalk and not hit anything. Of course, the beach was nothing more than a giant lake after last weekends Nor’Easter. Once again, South Jersey apparently dodged a bullet. Rumor has it that we’ll be seeing horseback riding on the beaches in Wildwood. Not a bad idea. Hey, anything that will bring in a few people during the doldrum months can’t hurt. I saw a few Broncos and Rams on the beach but no horses. Soon, I’m told. Great idea that I’m sure will be attacked by those people who afraid of destroying the “Natural Beauty” of the beach. I’d call them tree huggers, but I know that’s offensive and politically incorrect and I wouldn’t want to do that. I always say, “If it walks like a duck, it must be a duck.” So, lets all get behind Mayor Troiano and bring horseback riding to the Wildwoods. Could be a lot of fun, and it can’t be any more harmful than the trucks and SUV’s riding up and down the beach during the offseason. How about amateur horse races on the beach . . . it IS the sport of Kings. Now, that would be fun. When I’m king of the world . . . State road projects like the new crossovers between Rt. 9 and Seashore Road would not come to an abrupt halt like they have. They tear both roads up, disrupt all the neighboring homes, and they come to a complete standstill with the project half finished. Not only is it inconvenient but the wear and tear on your car with the torn up roadways is awful. Just get it done. When I’m king of the world . . . take all the “Occupy Wall Street” people and tell them to just go away. Please! They have no agenda, no leadership . . . exactly what do they want? I always say that if you distributed all the money in the world equally with everyone getting the exact same amout as everyone else, that in ten years the same people would be rich and the same people would be poor. Now that’s a little farfetched and it’s a simple analogy, but there’s a certain element of truth to it. And talking about money . . . I’d sit the NBA Ownership and Players in a room and point out utterly stupid they are. David Stern I’m not.

A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul. George Bernard Shaw

ANOTHER GOLF JOKE

Arthur is 90 years old. He’s played golf every day since his retirement 25 years ago. One day he arrives home looking downcast. “That’s it,” he tells his wife. “I’m giving up golf. My eyesight has got so bad, once I’ve hit the ball, I can’t see where it went.” His wife sympathizes. As they sit down, she has a suggestion: “Why don’t you take my brother with you, and give it one more try.” “That’s no good,” sighs Arthur. “Your brother is a hundred and three. He can’t help.” “He may be a hundred and three,” says the wife, “but his eyesight is perfect.” So the next day, Arthur heads off to the golf course with his brother-in-law. He tees up, takes an almighty swing, and squints down the fairway. He turns to the brother-in-law. “Did you see the ball?” “Of course I did!” says the brother-in-law. “I have perfect eyesight.” “Where did it go?” asks Arthur. “Can’t remember.”

“Wake up. The cat’s got your teeth.” SIGN OF THE TIMES
