Project X is a party; there are high school kids, a free house with giant yard and pool, hot young girls, handsome young guys, middle aged men, a midget, alcohol, DJs, people getting naked, jumping off roofs, angry neighbors, broken household things, 1500 people, the police come, oh, and a ﬂame thrower wielding lunatic. Plenty of elements for the king of crazy nights where nothing could possibly go wrong. Told through found footage style storytelling, Project X tells the tale of Thomas, a high school kid turning 17. Thomas (Thomas Mann) had great luck that his birthday happens to fall on his parents’ anniversary. The parents leave for a weekend getaway, and Thomas gets the house to himself. Thomas’ friend Coasta (Oliver Cooper) decides to plan him the biggest party ever while they are away. Costa is a street smart kid from Queens that throws the party to make sure his nerdy best bud, and himself, can get some popularity at school. Also along for the ride is their friend J.B. (Jonathan Brown), another nerdy high school kid of a huskier variety. Costa hires AV club geek, Dax (Dax Flame), to film the entire day for all the memories. It is through Dax’s camera that the audience gets to be on the VIP list for a wild time Thomas just wants a party of 50 people to make him cool, and not get caught by his parents. No one can go inside, so nothing gets damaged. They will have a whole day to clean up after. This is a great plan, however, he lets Costa plan the whole thing. Costa decides to spread the word to insure a successful party. He texts, hangs out in the high school courtyard to invite the ladies, puts the party on a scoreboard, a radio station invite, and a craigslist post with the address. Then Costa hires two children in security uniforms to police the whole event. The kids play some of the funniest roles in the movie and provide big laughs with their overzealous security enforcement. Again, nothing can go wrong here. Thomas has one minor success with the ladies, his childhood companion Kirby. He thinks he’s in love, but hasn’t made his move yet. He hopes the big party will be the time to tell her how her feels and hook up. Kirby seems to have a similar unspoken expectation for the evening as well. To complicate this setup, the devil in disguise is the hottest girl in school, Alexis. She is rather impressed by the party and determined to give the birthday boy a good time. J.B. is decked out in a suave suit to impress the ladies, and Costa is getting his fair share of action. Project X is a fun movie. Like a party, the movie is fun, you see things there that shocked you, and it doesn’t live up to your expectations. Project X had some very funny moments, but doesn’t consistently deliver. However, Todd Phillips’s (The Hangover) production team did manage to pull of one hell of a party, and it’s quite an experience to witness the chaos. The storyline is very predictable, but that’s to be expected. If you are going to see this movie, you should see it for watching the wild party, not the deep compelling storyline.

Useless Information An old German Shepherd starts chasing rabbits and before long, discovers that he’s lost. Wandering about, he notices a panther heading rapidly in his direction with the intention of having lunch. The old German Shepherd thinks, “Oh, oh! I’m in deep DODO now!” Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat. Just as the panther is about to leap, the old German Shepherd exclaims loudly, “Boy, that was one delicious panther! I wonder, if there are any more around here?” Hearing this, the young panther halts his attack in midstrike, a look of terror comes over him and he slinks away into the trees. “Whew!,” says the panther, “That was close!
