In Memoriam - Duane W. Neuman Department of Wisconsin Commander 1983-1984 Past Department Commander Duane Neuman of the Otto H. Kops Post No. 358 in Unity passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. PDC Neuman was elected Department Commander at the 65th Annual State Convention held in July, 1983 in Madison. Duane joined The American Legion in 1957 and was been active on all levels. He was a Past Post Commander, Past County Commander, Past District Commander and Past State Vice Commander. He also served on the Department Finance Committee. During those years he conducted active membership campaigns and attained over 100% in membership during his five years as Post Commander and two years as District Commander. “EVERYONE IS WELCOME on our 2013 WWII tours,” states tour hostess Vi Ranney from Yankton, SD, who just escorted her 19th WWII tour this past August. Vi would love to take you along to Paris, the Beaches of Normandy, Patton’s grave in Luxembourg, through the Battle of the Bulge area in Belgium, into Germany for a stop at the Remagen Bridge, and enjoy a Rhine River cruise before visiting Dachau and Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest. June and August departures are slated for 2013.

was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps in March of 1954, having served thirteen months in the Mediterranean area. In addition to his American Legion activities, he was active in numerous community affairs including the Unity Commercial Club. Neuman owned and managed Duane’s Tech Supply, an automotive supply warehouse, serving jobbers and dealers throughout the state. Duane is survived by his wife, Dorothy, an active Auxiliary member, as well as their two sons and three daughters. Both sons and one daughter-in-law are Vietnam veterans and members of The American Legion, their daughters and one daughter-inlaw are Auxiliary members and eight

granddaughters are Junior members. Services were held January 7, 2013 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Spencer. The Department is saddened by the loss of a good friend and loyal Legionnaire. PDC Neuman was serving as the Unity Post No. 358 Commander at the time of his passing, befitting his lifetime of service to his community, state and nation.
