OPTICAL CLARITY AND ACCURACY
Meeting stringent ANSI Z87.1 standards isn’t only about protection; our eyewear is tested to ensure optical clarity and accuracy from the center of the lens out to the periphery.
PRISMATIC POWER TESTING STATION
ANSI EXPLAINED
ANSI (American National Standards Institute) approves standards submitted by established committees in any given industry. Wiley X is proud to be a part of 3 separate ANSI committees and has a key role in the development and continued evolution of these standards.
ANSI Z87.1 is the American National Standard for Occupational and Education Personal Eye and Face Protection Devices. It contains performance specifications, and markings of eye and facial safety products — setting the standards they must meet for protection and optical clarity. Products in this category include spectacles, goggles and face shields (among others).

Designation of the standard.
The frames can be fitted with a prescription lens, which is the case with most Wiley X eyewear.
The eyewear frame and lenses have been tested to the High Velocity and High Mass Impact requirements of ANSI Z87.1 Safety Standard.
The lens is a filter or a shaded lens (not clear).
The lens is variable-tint photochromic (light adjusting).
PROTECTION
Founded on supplying military forces and law enforcement personnel with top-of-the-line ballistic eyewear, Wiley X continues to hold safety as our priority, adopting this approach for our entire line and building eyewear with the highest levels of protection available. Wiley X is continually innovating to deliver unparalleled protection, clarity, and style in every pair of glasses we build.
ANSI HIGH MASS IMPACT TEST
Wiley X ANSI-rated frames and lenses must withstand the impact of a 1.1lb. projectile dropped from a height of 50" to ensure your eyes are protected from unexpected blunt force impacts.
ANSI HIGH VELOCITY IMPACT TEST
Wiley X ANSI-rated frames and lenses must withstand the impact of a .25" diameter steel ball. For spectacles the projectile must be traveling 150fps and for a goggle 250fps.
V0 BALLISTICS
Several Wiley X eyewear models are tested to V0 ballistics which consists of a spectacle frame and lens being impacted with a .15 caliber projectile traveling 640-660 fps, or a goggle frame and lens with a .22 caliber projectile traveling 550-560 fps. Wiley X eyewear models that are part of the Authorized Protective Eyewear List (APEL) are tested to the Alpha version of the V0 ballistics standard which consists of a spectacle frame and lens being impacted with a .15 caliber projectile traveling 700-725fps, or a goggle frame and lens with a .22 caliber projectile traveling 580-590fps. Both tests are meant to simulate shrapnel that may be encountered on the battlefield.
REMOVABLE FACIAL CAVITY™ SEALS
Fine dust and pollen, as well as wind, can cause REGULAR long-term eye irritation, such as Dry Eye Syndrome. Peripheral light can also diminish optical clarity. Wiley X’s removable soft foam Facial Cavity™ Seals block out even the finest irritants and peripheral light, protecting the eyes and allowing polarized lenses to perform at peak levels.

ALTERNATIVE FIT
Wiley X Alternative Fit styles are designed for people who have high cheekbones and a shallow nose bridge. By widening the nose bridge, the eyewear sits higher on the face to prevent contact with the cheeks.
WILEY X MEETS A HIGHER STANDARD WILEY X PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR MEETS ANSI, EN166 AND MILITARY V0 BALLISTIC STANDARDS
When it comes to our troops and law enforcement officers, no amount of protection is too much. As an ISO 9001 certified business, we meet a higher standard than competitors’ “marketing claims.” Per required government specifications, and as outlined by ANSI Z87.1 standards, we continue to meet the government’s highest Ballistic Impact Standards.
