2003 Outlook

2003 OUTLOOK

2003 Golden Hawk Outlook

The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawk football team finds itself with a similar schedule to last season, with the only difference being a match up against Ottawa instead of McMaster. The OUA remains a 10 team league with an eightteam playoff format, which includes a quarterfinal game. The Golden Hawks look to exact revenge on the teams that defeated them and decided their deceiving 1-7 record, in which 5 losses came by three points or less. OFFENSE Laurier’s offense features eight returning starters from last year’s squad. Through many of last season’s growing pains, the offense looks to play more aggressively and decrease mistakes and penalties with possession. Quarterbacks Ryan Pyear returns to the lineup after an injuryplagued 2002 season which culminated in a torn ACL in the fourth game of the

6

season versus the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. From his seamless play in training camp, Pyear looks like he has regained the form that has gained him notoriety across the league and has not been bothered by injuries. The strong arms of Jamie Partington and Peter Maddocks will waiting in the wings should they be needed. Running Backs Depth at the running back position will not be an issue for the Golden Hawks as they have two outstanding backs. Nick Cameron has looked

outstanding in training camp and will be counted on the run the ball down the mouths of opposing offenses as he racked up 5.6 yards a carry in 2001. Derek Medler is coming off a sensational rookie season in which he was second in the nation in rushing and was the East/West Bowl MVP. Veteran Hawk O.J. Tasse, will be looking to solidify the fullback position and continue stellar blocking in aiding the Golden Hawks ground attack. Receivers With the return to a spread offense, the key will be a solid group of receivers. Third year Andrew Agro and Mike Maurice will anchor the receiving corps at Slot Back and Wide Out respectively. First year Andrew Baechler, fourth year Geoff Keen, first year Jon Coates and second year Joel Wright will shore up the wide out position and look to be downfield threats. Third Year Bryon Hickey, First year Adam Scheerer, and Josh Maltin will be fea-

tured at slot back, and look to move the chains when needed. Offensive Line Golden Hawks Quarterbacks should rest easy, as four of five starters from last years offensive line return. The quarterbacks should enjoy good pass protection and the running back should receive large gaps to run, thanks to this valuable, yet overlooked component of many football teams. This heralded O-Line features at tackle fourth year Ryan Jeffrey and third year Mitch Zappitelli. Fifth year Jeff Melis will return to the centre position. Fourth year Chris Scherer and fifth year

2003 OUTLOOK

Owen Thompson will be the guards. Second years Jon MacKinley and Kyle Weston, third Year Ryan McGuffin and fourth year Bill Girt will also return to the offensive line. Kicking Game Second year kicker Brian Devlin is turning heads with his accuracy on punts and field goals and booming leg power on kickoffs. Devlin has had a great training camp and has good range on field goals as he has been good from about 45 yards out and in. Defense The Hawks return nine starters from last year’s impressive defensive squad. The Hawks will continue to play their pass aggressive 4-3 scheme. Defensive Line The defensive line will see only one change to the starting line up from last season due to the loss of Matt Kruchak. Defensive ends Tony Bretney and Justin Shakell will continue to wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks. 2001 First-Team OUA AllStar Josh Alexander

returns as the run stopper from the defensive tackle position. Kyle Armour will start this year at defensive tackle. If the D-Line was not talented enough, they have depth as exemplified by second year defensive tackle Scott Evans, third year defensive tackle Adrian Houwer and second year defensive end Dave Montoya. Linebackers This year the Hawks feature one of the strongest linebacking corps in the conference. Kevin MacNeill is an OUA All-Star and looks to strike fear in the hearts of the opposition. MacNeill is accompanied by fourth year Lee Maggiacomo and fifth

Linebacker Kevin MacNeil will continue to take a leadership role with the Hawks.

year Jason Thompson at starting linebacker. Also waiting to get their licks on opposing offenses are fifth year Lee Cond, second year Brandon Keks and Jesse Alexander, and fourth year Elliot Forwell. Defensive Backfield The Golden Hawks defensive backfield looks promising especially with the return of David Agro who is in his final season and will start at free safety/ rover. Ian Logan and Jeff Smeaton also return to start at both safety positions and plan to make life miserable for intending receivers. Steve Frake and Blair Ryan will be the starting cornerbacks and are returning Golden Hawks. Second year Nial Both and Steve Surya will help bolster depth at Cornerback. Third year

Dave Wiwchar and rookie Yanick Carter will backup the safety position while Bobby Kootstra will backup the rover position. The Golden Hawks are looking to vindicate themselves after a disappointing 2002 season. The defense proves to be punishing and the offense is looking to put up big points with many stars returning. The OUA should be wide open this year, so the Hawks would be wise to take advantage of every opportunity to catapult them back to the elite class of the conference. The Hawks have the tools in place to become a formidable force this year and for years to come.

2003 OUTLOOK

2003 Team and Game Notes Sept. 1 - Laurier at Ottawa - 2:00 pm

All-Time vs. Laurier: 10-34-1 Current streak: Ottawa 2 wins Outlook for 2003: The Gee-Gees are recognized through the nation as a perennial football power-house. The Golden Hawks will be looking to set the tone and build momentum for the remainder of the season by defeating them on the road. Gee-Gees Quarterback David Azzi is not only a threat with his arm but also with his running game, as he amassed 305 yards on 27 carries and 4 touchdowns last season.

Sept. 6 - Guelph at Laurier - 7:00 pm

All-Time vs. Laurier: 11-31 Current streak: Guelph 1 win Outlook for 2003: The Gryphons went through some growing pains last season but have many returning starters. They now look to improve defensively as many failed big plays cost them last season, but have many young starters that coach Tom Arnott can integrate into the Gryphons’ system. The Gryphons offence has a new look from 2002 thanks to the addition of Quarterback Kevin Adam, a transfer from Windsor, and Running Back Chris Poynter returns to the lineup after missing all of 2002 with a broken leg.

Sept. 13 - Windsor at Laurier - 7:00 pm

All-Time vs. Laurier: 28-10-2 Current streak: Windsor 1 win Outlook for 2003: The Lancers enter the 2003 season with much enthusiasm as 2002 saw them make their first playoff appearance in twelve years. In addition seventy five veteran players return to the Lancers’ roster, including key returnees are Arjei Franklin, 2002 OUA All-Star kick returner, and second-year Quarterback Jon Dent. Look for freshman QB Drew Kozachuk to vie for playing time as well. The key to the Lancers’ fate this season will be their play on the road as last year they were 0-4 away from South Campus Stadium.

Oct. 4 - Laurier at York - 2:00 pm

All-Time vs. Laurier: 27-4 Current streak: York 1 win Outlook for 2003: The York Lions boast a formidable defensive squad headlined by blue chip talents Jeet Rana, Neil Maki and Clinton John. Rana was the 2002 Metras Trophy winner (OUA Lineman of the Year), while John and Maki were 2002 OUA All-Stars. The offense will be led by third-year QB J.P. Marchello who has been moved to the starting line for the Lions and by Josh Martyr who put up solid numbers last year as York’s starting tailback (80 carries 440 yards rushing).

Oct. 11 - Laurier at Queen’s - 2:00 pm

All-Time vs. Laurier: 3-2 Current streak: Queen’s 3 wins Outlook for 2003: This year the Golden Gaels’ bring to the field a spectacular offense led by Hec Crighton winner Tom Denison. Denison threw for over 4,000 yards, 29 touchdowns and a 101.16 passer rating, his targets being All-Canadian Brad Smith and OUA All-Star Iain Fleming. This is not to overlook the Gaels’ stellar defense which allowed only nine offensive touchdowns and 713 yards rushing. Second-team All-Star Cory Trudeau and East-West Bowl participant Matt Kirk return to help the defensive cause

Oct. 18 - Laurier at Toronto - 2:00 pm

All-Time vs. Laurier: 13-22 Current streak: Laurier 6 wins Outlook for 2003: The Varsity Blues look to turn some heads in 2003. This team attempts to make everyone forget about their dismal 2002 campaign -- that saw them go 0-8 -- and hope to sneak into the OUA playoffs. Big things are expected out of running back Templar Iga who exhibits great speed and rushed for over 400 yards last season. The defense should also be solid due to the return of mainstays Bob Vranich (22 tackles, 1 sack) and linebacker Derek Wheeler (50 tackles, 1 sack).

Sept. 20 - Laurier at Waterloo - 2:00 pm

All-Time vs. Laurier: 14-30-1 Current streak: Waterloo 2 win Outlook for 2003: The Warriors have a strong corps of receivers including Ian Forde, who is considered by many to be one of the fastest players in the OUA, and Jeff Nosal who adds size and speed at the slot back position. Matt Armstrong, an OUA All-Star and a former All-Canadian punter, provides the Warriors with one of the OUA’s best kickers. The Warriors defense will be anchored by free safety John Sullivan, and OUA All-Star cornerback Drew Haynes. The Battle of Waterloo is always a highly-anticipated game on the schedule and this year’s version promises to be an exciting one as the Hawks attempt to snap their two game losing streak versus the Warriors.

Sept. 27 - Western at Laurier - 2:00 pm

All-Time vs. Laurier: 34-17 Current streak: Western 2 wins Outlook for 2003: Strong-armed QB Chris Hessel, put up astronomical numbers last season as he threw for over 3500 yards, 31 touchdowns, and a surreal 118.1 passer rating. Hessel’s primary target Andy Fantuz had over 1500 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns and is the reigning Norm Marshall Award winner (OUA rookie of the year). The Mustangs defense looks strong as well with the return of defensive Tyler Cook and Chris Murphy. With their offence intact, a maturing defence, and the return of punter/place-kicker Rob Pikula after a 2002 injury, Larry Haylor can expect much from his squad this year.

MANAGER OF FOOTBALL OPERATIONS & HEAD COACH

Gary Jeffries

MANAGER OF FOOTBALL OPERATIONS & HEAD COACH

Gary Jeffries enters his 26th season as part of the Golden Hawk football coaching staff. It was not until 1970 that Gary Jeffries would find his home at Wilfrid Laurier University. He played football for 2 years from 1970-1971 where he was an All-Star Defensive Half-Back and Rookie of the Year. After his career at Laurier he was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts, however in 1973 he signed with the Hamilton Tigercats but didn’t report. In 1973 he was hired at WLU as an assistant football coach and recreation director. From 1984-1988 Jeffries was also the women’s basketball coach at WLU. In 1989 he took a break from football and coached the men’s basketball team until 1996. In 1994 Rick Zmich convinced Jeffries to return to the game which he loves so much. Gary has coached 25 football seasons at WLU, with 17 as Defensive Coordinator. In those years he has coached in 15 Yates Cups, has 138 total victories, coached 25 AllCanadian defensive players and has had the number one defense in the country 6 times. Coach Jeffries has coached close to 700 games in total for WLU (both Football and Basketball), yet his passion for the game remains undying. Gary resides in Southampton in the off-season with his girlfriend Jill. He has four children Jonathan, Jodie, Jaime, and Ryan.

The second year student caught a 35 yard hail marry with only 6 seconds left on the clock to put the Warriors up by two points. The win for Waterloo puts them up on a two year streak in the ‘Battle of Waterloo’ as they took the Hawks 18-16. Ian Forde was one of the two Waterloo Stars on the night. He caught both of Waterloo’s touchdowns and worked with Quarterback Jordy Holton to move the ball a total of 114 passing yards 48

Ryan Pyear inched a touchdown out of Nick Cameron while also later hooking up with receiver Andrew Agro for the second of the two Golden Hawk touchdowns. Leading defensively for the Warriors was Chris Waymouth with four tackles, a sack and a recovered fumble and the Warrior Player of the Game - Jonny Chehade who had 5 tackles and 3 assists. September 9 Windsor, ON 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Final Laurier 3 0 0 2 5 Windsor 0 0 7 0 7 “Laurier loses Heartbreaker in Windsor” by Matthew De Faria WINDSOR - The Laurier Golden Hawks fell victim to the Windsor Lancers in an ugly 7-5 loss on Saturday afternoon. Missing injured quarterback Ryan Pyear, the Hawks knew they were in for a battle. The game came down to a tale of two half’s. In the first half it was all Hawks, as they shut down the Lancer offense and took a 3-0 into halftime. The second half was a different story. The Hawks

had trouble converting first downs, and the Lancers keyed in on their opportunities. Within the three minute warning, kicker Ed Becker had two chances to put Windsor away, only to see one blocked and another sail just left of the upright. When it came down to it, Lancer quarterback, Greg Valovich made all four of his completions count hitting Ryan Franklin each time, including a 43 yard bomb that led to the eventual game winning field goal.

“Late Field Goal Takes the Game for Western over Laurier” by Ari Grossman WATERLOO – A field goal with 15 seconds left on the clock put the Mustangs ahead to close the Western – Laurier game at University Stadium. An attendance of 2,350 was on hand, as well as an audience watching on TSN. The Mustangs offense moved quick and moved often. That was the theme for the game as QB Chris Hessel went 22 for 33, moving the ball 392 yards on the night. Receiving for Western was Andrew Fantuz (8 catches, 170 yards) and Gregg Ross (3 catches, 72 yards and a TD) who both did the majority of the damage to the

Hawks, as Hessel’s game took place primarily in the air. Hessel was able to hit Ross (51 yard catch) to open up Western’s scoring in the game, while a short pass to Mike Bonk was the other TD of the night. The Laurier offense was glad to see QB Ryan Pyear on the field, after he sat for almost 7 quarters with a head injury. The Belleville native was one of the main reasons the Hawks were able to come back in the fourth quarter. Pyear went 14 for 29, totaling 139 yards on the night, including his 58 rushing yards. Derek Medler was also a significant force for the Hawks as he rushed for 102-yards, carrying a long of 32. Looking at the defensive side, Lineman Josh Alexander had 3 tackles,

“Golden Hawks Fall Short to Mac-Attack” by Matt De Faria HAMILTON – Kyle Pyear and the rest of the McMaster Marauders ran all over Laurier, as the Hawks put together a hard-fought, yet disappointing effort Saturday afternoon, in a 43-25 loss. The aforementioned Pyear, brother of injured Hawk quarterback, Ryan Pyear, rushed for 251 yards on 39 carries. The 39 touches set an OUA record. The game was close early, as the fans saw a well-played 17-14 game through the first quarter. Things changed in the second, McMaster’s defense tightened up, and Punter Ed Becker found himself on the field more and more often. By the second half, the Hawk defense showed signs of weariness, allowing the Marauders to

take advantage. In front of McMaster’s homecoming crowd, the Marauder offense set the tone by running first, and running often. Pyear carried the bulk of the load, as fellow running back, Jesse Lumsden, went down in the second quarter with only 2 rushes over 11 yards on the ground. . The McMaster ‘D’ was solid when it had to be, led by former Iona linebacker, Ray Mariuz, and Michael Botterill, who put together a 14 tackle (6 solo) effort, with a fumble recovery. With injured quarterback Ryan Pyear sidelined the Hawk offense was lead onto the field by freshman Jamie Partington at the helm. The Stoney Creek native finished 7 for 14 with 97 yards and one interception. Derek Medler, standing third in the CIS in rushing yards, improved on his

The Laurier defense was on the field the bulk of the game, and it was clear they where fatiguing as the game progressed into the second half.

Despite this, many players turned in great performances. Defensive Lineman, Justin Shakell, had one of his best games of the year. No only did he have 4 tackles (2 solo), but also 2 interceptions, including one that he ran back into the Marauder end zone. Also having impressive games where the big two at linebacker, Rohan Thompson and Kevin MacNeill. Together they combined for 21 tackles (12 solo). The secondary also turned up good numbers as Jeff Smeaton had 8 tackles (5 solo), and fifth year man David Agro had 8 of his own (2 solo).

“ Hawks Lose Tight One to Gaels” by CIS Communications KINGSTON - With the loss of injured quarterback Ryan Pyear (knee), and first year man Jamie Partington (knee), the quarterbacking responsibilities fell squarely on the capable shoulders of Chris Adams (North Bay, West Ferris). Adams responded with a well played game, despite tossing one interception. He was 15 for 27 with 176 yards in the air. Adams also spread the ball around well, hitting five different receivers on the day. Running back Bryon Hickey (Burlington, Notre Dame) had the best day, hauling in 5 passes for 74 yards. The running game was slow in comparison to

previous Golden Hawk games this season. Canada’s third best rusher, Derek Medler (Kitchener, Preston) ran for 59 yards on 19 carries. The offensive line seemed tired after a tough game against McMaster, however they held strong and allowed for a good passing game. The line was led by First-Team OUA all-star Jeff Melis (Oshawa, Paul Dwyer), and offensive tackles Ryan Jeffery (Lyn, Brockville C.I.) and Mitch Zappitelli (Orleans, St. Mathews). The defense was strong as usual for the Hawks, as mentioned earlier, holding the eighth ranked team in Canada to only 12 points. They were once again led on the field by linebackers Kevin MacNeill (London, Wilfrid

“Yeomen Defeat Hawks in Defensive Battle” by Ari Grossman WATERLOO – It was a defensive battle as the York Yeomen defeated the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks at University Stadium by a score of 22-6. The Hawks came out strong in the first quarter but the momentum shifted to the Yeomen in the second and would remain there for the rest of the game. The game was the 31st match up between the two teams, with the last meeting taking place during the 2000 season. York quarterback Bill Barbosa, did not have a spectacular night going 5 for 13 with 106 yards, but he was able to make it count when he needed to. A 61 yard TD pass

54

and a pair of field goals from Gianfranco Rocca (27 and 48 yards) are what put the Yeomen ahead of the Hawks offensively. All the Hawks’ had was a field goal from Ed Becker and a safety touch – not to mention a 93 yard touchdown run taken back by a holding call. Quarterback Chris Adams went 9 for 25 on the night totaling 82 yards and throwing 3 interceptions. Defensively it was Kevin MacNeill for the Hawks who led the team with a total of 11 tackles on the night. Behind him, Rohan Thompson had 7 as well as a fumble recovery and an interception. The Hawks held the Yeomen to a total of 286 yards on the night. For the Yeomen it was Rob Thomson who led

the team with 10 tackles and behind him - Jim MacPherson with 8. The key to the Yeomen defense was Chris Michalidis who had 6 tackles, as well as 2 of the 3 interceptions for York. The Yeomen held Derek Medler (#2 CIS – Rushing) to only 91 yards. Laurier kicker Ed Becker hit 11 punts for 390 yards with an impressive 66 yarder while Gianfranco Rocca

totaled 348 over 9 punts. York was penalized 7 times for 59 yards while the Hawks had 9 for 80 yards. The teams both play next on October 18th – the Golden Hawks (1-6) in Guelph where they take on the Guelph Gryphons to vie for the last playoff berth in the league. McMaster travels to York (5-2) to take place in a battle of the OUA top teams.

Guelph 15 - Laurier 14 October 19 Guelph, ON Laurier Guelph

1st 2nd 3rd 4th Final 14 0 0 0 14 0 0 8 7 15

“A Dissapointing Finish” by Matthew De Faria GUELPH – Laurier football came to an end this afternoon, as they came up short against the Guelph Gryphons by a score of 15-14. The first quarter saw the Golden Hawks jump out to an impressive 14-0 lead. Scoring was opened by an 83-yard Ian Logan punt return. Once they had points up on the board, confidence increased on the side-lines and the defense tightened up, as the offense moved the ball with ease. In the final minutes of the quarter, the offense marched into Gryphon territory and on a third and goal, quarterback Chris Adams, hit Kevin MacNeill for six points, and the early 14-0 advantage. The second quarter saw the defense step things up, as most

of the Guelph offense was played in their own end. The half ended with the Golden Hawks charging downfield, primed to score, but time ran out before it could develop. The second half was a much different story. Chris Adams and the offense found it more and more difficult to get first downs, and the defense was getting tired. About halfway through the third quarter, Guelph quarterback Mike Drake rolled out left and found wide receiver Ryan Kooistra in the corner of the end zone. Following a single point by the Gryphons, Laurier suddenly found their lead down to less than a touchdown, 14-8. Into the fourth quarter, Guelph was driving, and found themselves on the Hawks 35 yard-line,

but the drive stifled by Jeff Smeaton who picked off an eared pass. With four and a half minutes left, it seemed as if Laurier was destined for the win, but the Guelph defense had other ideas. They pressured Adams, forcing a poor shovel pass, right into the hands of Chris Demaiter, who proceeded to walk into the end zone, putting Guelph up for good, 15-14. Derek Medler, played the first half and had 14 carries for 51 yards, but sat all second half with a charley horse on his knee. Adams finished the day 11 for 18, with 137 yards, one touchdown, and an interception. First year wide out, Joel Wright caught 3 passes for 27

yards, and Andrew Agro also hauled in 3 catches, over 50 yards, including a spectacular 33 yard grab. David Agro also put himself in a tie for the lead in interceptions in the CIS, when he picked off his 6th on the year in the second quarter. Linebacker Rohan Thompson, in his last game as a Golden Hawk had 10 tackles (8 solo). Fellow linebacker, Kevin MacNeill had 6 tackles (3 solo) of his own. Others with big days were Justin Shakell who produced 7 tackles (5 solo) and added a sack.

WATERLOO

The City of Waterloo

The City of Waterloo is an exciting place to live. With its foundations solidly rooted in the past, a community oriented mindset and appropriate means to have a strong future; this city has something for everyone. Concerned with moving into the future with a strong sense of “community”, the Imagine Waterloo campaign is taking the city by storm. This is a proud community, determined to broaden the horizons and opportunities for all who reside here. The college and universities promote the city with a good reputation, having a variety of jobs, economic growth and the ongoing influx of young people that continues to keep the city vibrant and dynamic. In a recent pole held within the community, the presence of the universities made the top five likes within the city. Also included in the top five likes were the parks, especially Waterloo Park which is located with vehicle entrances off Albert Street, Westmount Road and Seagram Drive. Uptown Waterloo, (another top five) is conveniently located for the university students. With the reliable transit system or a good pair of walking shoes the shopping centers, grocery stores, bars and pubs are accessible to all. The businesses in the area are appreciative of

Everything you may need is a short walk from campus. Banking, coffee shops, and restaurants are a few of the businesses that are downtown Waterloo.

the universities because they help the economy, provide students who are available for part time employment and they help draw people into the city. The entertainment factor within the city is very alive. Take a drive up to Conestoga Mall for some shopping or stop by the new Galaxy Theatres to see a flick. The bar scene on University Avenue is the place to be in the evenings with choices of Fiasco’s, Loose Change, Molly Bloom’s and McGuiness. Recreation in Waterloo is on the rise with the new addition of RIM Park located off University Avenue East. This new 500-acre recreational facility will house 18 outdoor playing fields and the first municipal 18-hole golf course. Also included is a Multi-Use Recreational facility which houses 4 Olympic size ice rinks, 2 double gymnasiums and much more. Closer in proximity to the universities is the Waterloo Recreation Complex, a facility that includes an Olympic size ice rink, indoor running track and a swimming pool…home of Golden Hawks hockey. Waterloo is no doubt a great place to live. As a key center in Canada’s Technology Triangle, the place to go for a famous Oktoberfest sausage, or the place to study for a PhD or Mba Waterloo is the city of choice.

Bob Rosehart is President and Vice-Chancellor of Wilfrid Laurier University. He assumed this position on September 1, 1997 having served the previous thirteen years as President and Vice-Chancellor of Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. Wilfrid Laurier University enrols over 8,500 full-time undergraduate and graduate students in the Faculties of Arts, Science, Music, Social Work and the School of Business and Economics. DEAN OF STUDENTS

David McMurray, Dean of Students

David McMurray is Assistant Vice-President Student Services and Dean of Students at Wilfrid Laurier University. He assumed this position July 1, 1997 after a career in student services at the University of Windsor. He has served as Chair of the Ontario Committee on Student Affairs, has been President of the Student Affairs and Services Association, serves on the faculty of the Canadian Institute on Student Affairs and Services and is currently the President of the Canadian College and University Student Services Association. Born in Windsor, Ontario, David spent most of his early days growing up in Thunder Bay Ontario where he excelled in many sports including football, basketball, baseball, track, tennis, hockey and skiing. A severe knee injury ended his active participation in sport. “I had a very difficult time giving up the contact variety of athletics but was able to make the adjustment to aerobic activities like swimming and long distance biking which have become life long.” Word has it he can handle the golf course pretty well too! David’s interest in Golden Hawks football goes back to two games he fondly recalls in the mid-seventies. While at the University of Wind-

sor he recalls an exceptional Lancer team that beat the Hawks in Windsor by a score of 63 to 7. That was extraordinary but short lived as a Tuffy Knight thoroughly motivated Hawks squad returned the following year turning the tables on the Lancers with a 77-6 thrashing. Since arriving at Laurier several years ago David is regularly seen in purple and gold. He not only never misses a game but has masterminded a strong strategy for the long-term success of Athletics and Recreation at Laurier. The keys to his strategy of “building champions” comes from investing in management, coaching, student athlete development, facilities, equipment, recruitment, program development, sponsorship and fundraising. The outcomes have been obvious in this short time and the Golden Hawks are in great shape for the future!
