MEDIA INFORMATION Interview Policy During the season, all interviews should be made through Manager of Football Operations and Head Coach Michael Faulds or Coordinator, Communications Jamie Howieson. Following games, all players and coaches will be available for comment on the field.

Communications Assistance The Golden Hawk Communications Office is at your service to assist you with your coverage of Laurier Football. Coordinator, Communications Jamie Howieson will be happy to serve you during the season. For information regarding credentials, team and player information, interviews, statistics, pictures, and press releases, please call Jamie (519-884-0710 ext. 3492).

Stadium Directions To reach Laurier from Highway 401, take exit 278B (coming from London) or 278 (coming from Toronto) and follow Highway 8 West to Highway 86 North - Waterloo and continue to University Avenue; follow University Avenue West past campus to Albert Street. Turn left on Albert, then right on Seagram Drive. The Stadium is on the left hand side.

Communications Office The Wilfrid Laurier University Communications Offices are in Rooms 242 and 243 in the Athletic Complex. These rooms are to the right when entering the building’s main entrance.

Game Day Information One hour before the beginning of each game, media guides and game notes packages (game preview, lineups, current statistics, and depth charts) will be available in the stadium’s press box. Official statistics will be available approximately 45 minutes after the game, as well as on the OUA website (http://www.oua.ca) within two hours of completion of the game. Game stats are distributed in the press box thoughout the game, though they are unofficial.

Media Credentials All requests for press or photo credentials should be directed to Jamie Howieson, Coordinator, Communications at least one day prior to the game via phone or email. Due to press box space constraints, visiting media are asked to request as soon as possible.

@MichaelFaulds Michael Faulds enters his first season as head coach and offensive coordinator for the Golden Hawks. The sixth head coach in the 52 year history of Laurierâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s football program, Faulds was hired on January 8, 2013 to succeed Gary Jeffries, who stepped down following the 2012 season. Despite being a head coach for the first time in his career, Faulds brings to Laurier an already impressive resume that includes numerous accomplishments as both a coach and a player. He joins the Hawks after serving the previous three seasons as the offensive coordinator for the York Lions. In that position, he masterminded the rapid succession of a York program that went from 26th to seventh in the country in yardage per game. In his final season with the Lions in 2012, York ranked third overall in the OUA in both passing and total yards per game using a no-huddle, pro-style offence. Faulds has also been successful as a coach on the international stage. In 2012, he served as the quarterback coach for Team Canada at the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) U19 World Championship, helping guide the team to a 23-17 victory over the heavily-favoured American squad in the gold medal game. He reprised the role this past February when he coached Team World at the International Bowl in Austin, Texas. His path into coaching is grounded in a stellar career as a player at both the CIS and international level. A graduate of Western University with both a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Kinesiology, specializing in coaching, Faulds is the owner of two of the most prestigious records in CIS history, including the CIS all-time passing record of 10,811 yards as well as the

single season passing record of 3,033 yards, which he set in 2009. That same season he also was named the OUA Most Outstanding Player while guiding the Mustangs to the Yates Cup. He also earned Yates Cup MVP honours in both 2007 and 2008 after leading Western to the OUA championship. Outside of the CIS, Faulds had a decorated career with Team Canada, serving as the U19 quarterback on three occasions, including 2000, 2002 and 2003. He also guided Canada to a silver medal at the IFAF Senior World Championship in Austria in July, 2011.

RON VANMOERKERKE Ron Vanmoerkerke is entering his 14th year coaching with the Golden Hawks. He returns again to the role of Defensive Coordinator, a position he has held since the 2003 season. In the offseason, he was also given the title of Associate Head Coach after the addition of Michael Faulds as Head Coach. Ron’s track record with Laurier is a long and storied one; he played in the late 80’s and was on the 1987 Yates Cup championship team. In 1988, Ron received the Laurier Alumni Association Academic and Athletic Achievement Award. In 1989, Ron was named an OUA first-team all-star linebacker and team MVP. At present, Ron is a teacher and

DWAYNE CAMERON Dwayne Cameron is entering his eighth season as a coach with the Golden Hawks. After having previously served as a defensive assistant and as the defensive backs coach, Cameron has been handed additional duties with Laurier this season and is now in charge of the special teams as well as all recruiting actitivies. Cameron first joined the Hawks in 2004 and was responsible for managing the defensive backs during Laurier’s two Yates Cup wins in 2004 and 2005 as well as the 2005 Vanier Cup. Following the 2009 season, Cameron left Laurier when he was hired as an assistant coach for special teams and

the Department Head of Social Science at Eastwood Collegiate High School in Kitchener. Prior to becoming the Defensive Coordinator with the Hawks, Ron was the Head Coach at Eastwood and Galt Collegiate. Ron lives with his wife Karen and their daughter Grace and son Austin in West Montrose.

Since being handed the reins for recruiting for Laurier, Cameron has dramatically changed the program’s philosophy, implementing signing ceremonies at each recruits high school, making each signing an event for the prospective Golden Hawk.

Irv Daymond is new to the Golden Hawks coaching staff for the 2013 season and will serve as one of the team’ offensive line coaches. A graduate of Western University, Irv enjoyed a 10 year CFL career playing offensive line for the Ottawa Rough Riders. Drafted in the sixth round by the BC Lions in 1984, he would end up plying his trade for the Ottawa Rough Ridgers between 1986 and 1995. While with Ottawa, he would twice earn league recognition as he was named a CFL East All-Star in

A two-time CIS All-Canadian and OUA First Team All-Star during his playing days, Jesse was a key member of the 2005 Vanier Cup winning squad. Jesse was named to Laurier’s Team of the Century following his playing career and in 2011, he was inducted into the Golden Hawks Hall of Fame.

TORONTO (September 3, 2012) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks football team struggled in their opening game of the season as they were defeated by the Toronto Varsity Blues by a score of 19-0 on Monday night at Varsity Stadium.

Laurier’s defence continued to shine in the third quarter limiting the Blues to just a single point, giving the offence a chance to mount a late rally.

Laurier, who lost to Toronto for the first time since 1996, failed to move the ball with consistency in the game, generating just 190 total yards.

However, all hopes of that were put to rest three minutes into the final quarter when Quittenton punched in his second rushing major of the game, extending Torontos lead to 17 and putting the game out of reach.

“We’re disappointed for sure,” commented Head Coach Gary Jeffries after the game. “We’ve got a lot of young kids, a lot of new kids. We knew it would take us some time to get things together.”

The Hawks attempted one last drive late in the fourth quarter in an attempt to avoid the shutout but Emans pass to running back Tyrrel Wilson of Hamilton, fell through his hands, handing the purple and gold their first shutout loss in 27 years.

Both Laurier and Toronto were slow out of the gate in their season openers as neither team generated much offence in the first quarter. The Hawks and Varsity Blues combined for just 54 yards, which resulted in a 0-0 score line after 15 minutes.

“We were kind of flat coming out,” said Eman. “Once we got down we didn’t look ahead. We’re going to get better, we’re a young team and we’re going to get better with experience.”

WATERLOO, Ont. (September 8, 2012) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks fell to 0-2 on the season as they dropped their home opener to the No. 6 Queen’s Gaels (2-0) by a score of 42-16 on Saturday night.

As for starting quarterback Eman, he finished the game 9-for21 for 87 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He was replaced by Fantham in the fourth quarter completed five of 12 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown.

Queen’s quarterback Billy McPhee of Burlington, Ont., threw for 333 yards and two touchdowns to pace the Gaels who scored two touchdowns 37 seconds apart late in the second quarter to blow the game wide open.

Up next for the Hawks, they will take on the York Lions (1-1) at home next Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Knight-Newbrough Field. WATERLOO, Ont. (September 15, 2012) - Running back Lance Freeman of Denver, Colo., scored his second touchdown of the game with just over a minute remaining in the fourth quarter to lift the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (1-2) to a 24-20 win over the York Lions (1-2) at University Stadium.

With time still remaining for York to drive, Gibbons looked deep down field but his pass was intercepted by rookie defensive back Anthony Petrucci of Sarnia, Ont., to cap the victory.

Freeman, who finished the game with 100 total yards, ran in a 28 yard pass from backup quarterback Steve Fantham of London, Ont., to give Laurier the win after York had taken a 20-17 lead just four minutes earlier.

“We’ve been talking all year about making plays at significant times during the football game,” said Jeffries after the win. “Full credit to Steven Fantham coming in. He came in with five minutes to go, and we had to have a drive [and] we did.”

“On that drive, I made so many mistakes,” said Freeman of the game-winning score. “I had to make it up someway, somehow. I was so amp’ed to make it up. I was not going to let us lose this game with too many mistakes.”

Freeman was the Hawks all-around best offensive player on the day as he finished with a team-best 40 rushing yards as well as 60 receiving yards. Fantham and Eman combined to throw for 242 passing yards, a season-high for Laurier

Laurier linebacker Mitchell Bosch of Langley, B.C., also shone for the Hawks on this day as his 4.5 tackles moved him into first place all-time on Laurier’s career tackles list. Bosch, who now has 181.0 tackles over his five year career, surpassed former Hawks great Kevin MacNeill of London, Ont., who had 180.5 tackles as Hawk over five years.

Defensively, Bosch and the rest of the Hawks stood up, holding CIS Offensive Player of the Week Kyle Exume of Whitby, Ont., to just 67 rushing yards. Laurier also sacked Gibbons, who completed just 11-of-27 passes for 274 yards, on two occasions, giving them 10 on the season.

In what was a back-and-forth affair, the Hawks jumped out to a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter when quarterback Travis Eman of Brampton, Ont., capped off an eight play, 76-yard drive with a one yard touchdown run. The score was Eman’s first of his CIS career.

BECKWITH TOWNSHIP, Ont. (September 22, 2012) - Quarterback Steve Fantham of London, Ont., threw four touchdown passes in his first career start as the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (2-2) overcame the Ottawa Gee-Gees (0-4) 35-27 on Saturday afternoon at Beckwith Park.

For the second straight week, the Hawks backs featured prominently in the offence and Pirie attributes that success to Ryan Pyear. “It comes down to our offensive coordinators play calling. He knows where to attack defences and he gets us out of the backfield into routes where defenders might not account for us.”

For the second straight week, the Hawks overcame a secondhalf deficit to post the victory as running back Tyrrel Wilson of Hamilton, scored the game-winning major early in the fourth quarter.

Fantham, after a slow first half, finished the game strong as he was 15-for-26 for 218 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Colbon and backup Zac Lesko of Edmonton, who replaced Colbon after he went down with an injury in the second quarter, combined to complete eight of 20 pass attempts for 210 yards and a touchdown.

“It feels good [to get the win],” said Fantham, who was making his first career start. “Whenever the receivers are getting open, it makes my job a lot easier. A lot of guys made plays out there.”

Wilson, aside from catching the game-winning score, also led all players in rushing on the day as he racked up 75 yards on 14 attempts.

In a widely entertaining game that saw numerous swings in momentum, the Gee-Gees took a 7-0 lead just 31 seconds into the game as starting quarterback Aaron Colbon of Ottawa, connected with Vincent Campbell of Gatineau, Que., on a 106 yard touchdown.

Laurier will now return home to Waterloo for their annual Homecoming game as they take on the Guelph Gryphons (3-1) next Saturday at 1 p.m.

Despite the rocky start, the Hawks took advantage of the wind at their backs in the opening 15 minutes. Despite a raucous Homecoming crowd enjoying the advantage, the Gryphons were not dismayed. Consecutive touchdown passes by quarterback Jazz Lindsey of Markham, Ont., to Michael Fortino of Niagara Falls, Ont., and Saxon Lindsey of Markham, Ont., put Guelph in front 15-10 midway through the second quarter. Ferraro would add a single and a 35-yard field goal before the half to give the Gryphons a 19-10 advantage.

“Last-second field goal sinks Hawks” “Guelph defeats Laurier 22-19 on Homecoming” by Jamie Howieson WATERLOO, Ont. (September 29, 2012) - Guelph kicker Daniel Ferraro of Mississauga, Ont., made a nine-yard field goal with just 14 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter as the Guelph Gryphons (4-1) defeated the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (2-3) 22-19 at Laurier’s Homecoming game.

After giving up 18 points in the second quarter, the Hawks defence stepped up their game and shutdown Guelph for much of the second half, allowing their offence to get them back into the game. Fantham, who threw for 320 yards in the contest, drove Laurier into field goal range twice in the third quarter and once again in the fourth. Pfeffer would make good on the attempts from 28, 33, and 32 yards respectively to tie the score at 19.

After being held scoreless for the entire second half, running back Robert Farquharson of Niagara Falls, Ont., who finished the game with 178 yards rushing, and the Gryphons drove 56 yards on 10 plays to set up the game-winning score.

However, Farquharson and the Gryphons could not be stopped late as another Laurier second-half comeback just fell short.

“It’s always exciting when Homecoming comes around but we would have liked to have gotten a win,” said quarterback Steve Fantham of London, Ont., after the game. “We just have to forget [this game] now and get ready for Thursday.”

Aside from Farquharson, Jazz Lindsey also stood out for the Gryphons finishing the game with 247 yards passing and two touchdowns. His favourite target was Fortino who had 96 yards and three catches to go along with his second quarter major. Pirie had an outstanding performance for the second straight week, finishing with game with 118 total yards (28 rushing, 90 receiving) and his third touchdown in two games.

“We’re extremely disappointed,” said head coach Gary Jeffries echoing Fantham’s sentiments. “I thought we played the first 20 minutes as well as we could play. Our kids played our hearts out and Im proud of this group.” In what was a hard fought game by both teams, the Hawks jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the opening half thanks to a 37-yard field goal from Ronnie Pfeffer of Kitchener, Ont., followed by a 48 yard touchdown reception by Josh Pirie of Cambridge, Ont.

With just three games remaining in the regular season, Laurier will wrap up their home schedule on Thursday night when they welcome their cross-town rivals, the Waterloo Warriors to University Stadium. WATERLOO, Ont. (October 4, 2012) - On the strength of four field goals from kicker Ronnie Pfeffer of Kitchener, Ont., the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (3-3) returned to .500 with a 12-0 victory over the Waterloo Warriors (1-5) on Thursday night at University Stadium.

“We’ve always had bad blood [against Western],” said Mizan, looking ahead to next week. “We’re just going to keep working hard, stay on our assignment and just keep on fighting.” Game time is set for 1 p.m. at TD Waterhouse Stadium in London, Ont. Pfeffer, a second year Psychology major, accounted for the games entire offensive output, including connecting on a career-long 44 yarder in the third quarter, as the Hawks picked up their first shutout victory since 2009. “I have to give a lot of credit to our offence,” said Pfeffer, sharing his success with his teammates. “Our offence drove us down the field and my line held perfectly. [Mitchell] Bosch had perfect snaps every time I kicked a field goal.” In what was a defensive struggle between the two cross-town rivals, Laurier scored the only points in the first half on Pfeffer’s first field goal of the day from 32 yards out midway through the first quarter. In total, the two teams combined for just 233 total yards of offence and five turnovers as the Hawks led 3-0 after 30 minutes. The second half saw the Hawks eliminate their turnovers by going to the ground game. The move paid off as Laurier added two more field goals to extend their lead to nine after three quarters. After going up by 12 on an impressive 42-yard field goal into the wind by Pfeffer in the fourth quarter, the Hawks defence smothered the Waterloo offence, shutting down a pair of potential scoring drives late to preserve the shuout. recovered by Laurier deep in the Mustangs end. After failing to find the endzone on consecutive passing plays, Pfeffer stepped up and hit a 31-yard field goal to put Laurier in front.

However, things would go downhill from there for the Hawks as Finch and Marshall connected three times in the opening half, and when combined with three field goals from Lirim Hajrullahu of St. Catharines, Ont., gave the Mustangs a 30-3 lead after two quarters.

LONDON, Ont. (October 13, 2012) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (3-4) were on the wrong end of a lopsided scoreline on Saturday afternoon as they were defeated by the Western Mustangs (4-3) 56-3 at TD Waterhouse Stadium.

With Laurier’s offence failing to move the ball throughout the contest, the Mustangs continued to take advantage of excellent field position, adding 18 more points in the third quarter.

Western quarterback Will Finch of Burlington, Ont., and receiver Brian Marshall of London, Ont., connected four times for touchdowns to lead the Mustangs offensive outburst that saw them score 56 unanswered points in the contest.

Finally, third string quarterback James Fracas of Waterloo, Ont., was brought into the game and while he had more success than his counterparts, Steve Fantham of London, Ont., and Travis Eman of Brampton, Ont., Laurier could not muster any further offence as they dropped their fourth game of the season.

“Obviously, things didn’t go as planned,” said linebacker Drew Galpin of Kitchener, Ont., who recorded a career-high 10 tackles in the game. “They’re a very well coached team and they were very well prepared for us.”

Despite the loss, the Hawks still sit in a playoff position as the York Lions helped Laurier out by defeating the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday. That means Laurier will make the playoffs with either a win next week over McMaster or a loss by Toronto at Queen’s.

On the day, Laurier managed to accumulate just 121 total yards of offence, with Fracas providing the biggest boost, throwing for 94 yards and rushing for another 20.

HAMILTON, Ont (October 20, 2012) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (3-5) claimed the final playoff spot after a 43-0 loss to the No. 1 McMaster Marauders (8-0) at Ron Joyce Stadium.

Laurier’s defence also had their work cut out for them in trying to stop Quinlan and the top-ranked Marauders. Drew Galpin of Kitchener, Ont led all players with eight tackles, the fifth game in a row he’s been the Hawks’ leading tackler. Those eight tackles give him 59 on the season, the fifth most a Laurier player has ever recorded in a single campaign.

Laurier qualified for the OUA playoffs after the Western Mustangs defeated the Ottawa Gee-Gees 32-29 on a last second field goal. They will face the No. 6 Queen’s Gaels in Kingston in the OUA Quarter-finals next week. The Marauders opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 43-yard Tyler Crapigna (Nepean, Ont.) field goal. Three minutes later Kyle Quinlan of South Woodslee, Ont., capped a 56-yard drive with a 20-yard rush to go up by 10 after the opening quarter.

Kicker Ronnie Pfeffer of Kitchener, Ont., also put his name into the Laurier record books. His 10 punts for 373 yards in the game gave him 72 punts for the season, the fourth most in Golden Hawks history, and 2,499 yards punting on the year, sixth most all-time.

McMcaster took control of the game in the second quarter as Quinlan ran in his second major of the day followed by a one yard touchdown pass to Josh Vandeweerd of Burlington, Ont., to open up a 24-0 lead.

Two drives later, Quinlan was replaced by Marshall Ferguson of Kingston, Ont., and he promptly connected with Dahlin Brooks of Kitchener, Ont., for a five yard touchdown to put the Marauders up 33-0 at the half. With the offence struggling under starting quarterback Travis Eman of Brampton, Ont., in the first half, Jeffries turned to backup James Fracas of Waterloo, Ont., for the second half. The first year quarterback gave the Hawks some life but Laurier still couldn’t find the scoreboard. KINGSTON, Ont. (October 27, 2012) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks saw their season come to an end on Saturday afternoon as they lost 34-0 to the No. 6 Queen’s Gaels in the OUA Quarterfinals at Richardson Stadium.

“I hate it use it as an excuse, but youth and inexperience made things difficult this year,” said Dell on what can only be described as a tough season for the Hawks. “I know on the offensive side of the ball, I was the only returning starter so its tough getting cohesion with a young group. That being said, our future looks very bright. I know on the offensive side of the ball probably about 90-95 per cent of the team is coming back. I guess this season we really just had to get some experience and build from that.”

The Gaels used a 17-point first quarter to grab control of the game and they cruised from there, ending Laurier’s playoff aspirations for the second straight year. “Obviously we didn’t want it to end this way,” commented veteran fullback Isaac Dell of Niagara Falls, Ont., after the game. “The Queen’s defensive side wasn’t doing anything we didn’t expect, but we couldn’t get it rolling [on offence].”

NOTES: The Hawks were shutout for the second straight game and the third time this season...Laurier also finished the season without scoring a touchdown for 18 straight quarters...Queen’s eliminated the Hawks in last year’s quarter-final game with a 14-10 victory...Attendance at Richardson Stadium was 1,787

After taking the lead on the opening kickoff thanks to a rouge from Dillon Wamsley of London, Ont., the two teams traded defensive stops before the Gaels took over the game late in the quarter. First, Chris Patrician of Toronto, returned a punt 94 yards for the games opening major before Giovanni Aprile of Scarborough, Ont., found the endzone just three minutes later. The Hawks conceded a safety at the end of the quarter to give Queen’s a 17-0 lead. Although neither team provided much in the way of offence in the second quarter, the Gaels added to their lead thanks to another conceded safety and a 40 field goal from Wamsley at the end of the quarter to take a 22-0 lead into halftime. Laurier’s defence stepped up their play in the third quarter shutting down Queen’s offence but James Fracas of Waterloo, Ont., and the Hawks offence could not cut into the Gaels lead. Queen’s put the game out of reach in the fourth thanks to Wamsley’s second field goal of the game and a two-yard rushing touchdown from quarterback Billy McPhee of Burlington, Ont. Queen’s was led on the day by backup running back Jesse Andrews of Arnprior, Ont., who finished the game with 135 yards. As for McPhee, he finished 21-of-31 for 225 yards and a touchdown.

During that year, the Mitchell Bowl played opposite to that of the Churchill Bowl. However, with the introduction of the Uteck Bowl in 2003, the Mitchell Bowl replaced and assumed the history of the Churchill Bowl.

St. F.X. 40 Waterloo Lutheran 14

St. Francis Xavier quarterback Terry Dolan marshalled a 40-14 victory over Waterloo Lutheran (now Wilfrid Laurier) in the second and final invitational Vanier Cup Game. Dolan completed 12 out of 19 passes for 4 touchdowns and 284 yards. Receiver Terry Gorman caught 6 of them for 131 yards and 3 TDs, setting a Vanier Cup record and earning the Ted Morris Trophy. 1968

Queen’s 42 Waterloo Lutheran 14

Queen’s rambled to a 42-14 romp over Waterloo Lutheran, utilizing powerful aerial and ground attacks. On the ground it was Keith Eaman running for 93 yards and 2 TDs and Don McIntyre was on the receiving end of two of three Don Bayne TD passes. Bayne finished the game with 250 yards passing and was selected MVP. 1972

Alberta 20 Waterloo Lutheran 7

The Cup went West again as Alberta defeated Waterloo Lutheran 20-7. The Golden Bears used three quarterbacks to secure the win with appearances by Gary Weisbrot, Terry Cairnes and Roy Beechey. Waterloo Lutheran’s Gerry Blacker scored a touchdown and rushed for 134 yards in a solid performance as the Golden Hawks suffered their third Vanier Cup loss.

The Hawks won their first Vanier Cup in 1991. They beat Mt. Allison by a score of 25-18 to give them the title of National Champions.

Laurier 25 Mt. Allison 18

The Laurier Golden Hawks took home the Vanier Cup for the first time with a 25-18 victory over the Mount Allison Mounties before more than 30,000 fans at the SkyDome. Laurier running back Andy Cecchini carried 22 times for 130 yards and tied a Vanier Cup record with three touchdowns. The Golden Hawks, OUA and Churchill Bowl champions, jumped out to an early 11-0 lead in the first quarter as Cecchini ran one yard for his first touchdown. Laurier took a large lead in the third quarter on a two-yard run by Cecchini and a 19-yard pass from QB Bill Kubas to Cecchini to make the score 24-4. The Mounties, however, staged a spirited comeback as Grant Keaney ran 27 yards for a touchdown and slotback Mark Huys caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from Sean Hickey. The Laurier defense tightened up late in the game and preserved the victory. Cecchini won the Ted Morris Trophy as the game’s outstanding player. 2005

Laurier 24 Saskatchewan 23

With just 19 seconds left on the clock, Brian Devlin connected on a 32-yard field goal, giving the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks a 24-23 win over the Saskatchewan Huskies and their second ever National Title. The game was played in front of 16,827 fans at Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton. The majority of the raucous crowd clad in Purple and Gold. Golden Hawks supporters didn’t leave disappointed, as the Hawks became only the 10th team in Canadian University history to finish a season undefeated (12-0). Quarterback Ryan Pyear took home the Ted Morris Trophy as the game’s MVP; finishing 20 for 30 for 254 yards and 3 touchdowns.

University Stadium which seats 6500 people is the home to many Golden Hawk Varsity Teams.

Laurier is in top spot among Ontario’s universities in the Primarily Undergraduate category of the Maclean’s Annual Rankings of Universities, and is second overall in the country in the reputational ranking. Laurier finished fifth overall in the Primarily Undergraduate category, up two spots from last year’s seventh place ranking. The university is Ontario’s top performer in key student-related categories such as Average Entering Grade and Proportion of Students with (entering averages of ) 75% or higher. Laurier also improved in Student Services as a Percentage of Budget, and retained its second place finish overall in Scholarships and Bursaries.

Laurier is known across the country as an institution with high quality students and professors, and a community environment that fosters academic and personal growth. We consistently come out strong in reputational surveys such as Maclean’s Annual Rankings of Universities and the Globe and Mail Rankings.

The university had its best-ever showing in reputation, finishing second overall in the country. In the individual reputational categories, Laurier finished third in Highest Quality, third in Most Innovative, third in Leaders of Tomorrow, and second in Best Overall.

HISTORY OF WILFRID LAURIER UNIVERSITY In 1910 the Canada Synod and Synod of Central Canada of the Lutheran Church entered into an agreement to establish a Lutheran Seminary. Though the location first proposed for the Seminary was Toronto, Waterloo was selected when its citizens offered a tract of land on the boundary of the town. The choice of location was affected, too, by the fact that the majority of Lutherans in Ontario lived in the vicinity of Waterloo and Berlin (Kitchener). In 1911 the Evangelical Lutheran Seminary of Canada opened its doors. Facilities for pre-theological education were established in 1914 with courses leading to senior matriculation given in Waterloo College School. In 1924 the Waterloo College of Arts, providing courses in post-secondary education in a four year program, was established. In 1925 the Faculty of Arts, under the name of Waterloo College, affiliated with the University of Western Ontario. Waterloo College soon began to offer Honours degree programs in the arts. The affiliation with the University of Western Ontario ended in 1960 when the Seminary obtained a revised charter changing the name of the institution to Waterloo Lutheran University. On November 1, 1973, Waterloo Lutheran University became Wilfrid Laurier University, one of Ontarioâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s provincially assisted universities after Bill 178 was given Royal Assent by the Lieutenant Governor, former Wilfrid Laurier University Chancellor William Ross Macdonald.
