HEAD COACH AND MANAGER OF FOOTBALL OPERATIONS

MICHAEL FAULDS

MANAGER OF FOOTBALL OPERATIONS AND HEAD COACH

@MichaelFaulds The sixth head coach in the 53-year history of Laurier’s football program, Michael Faulds enters his second season as head coach and offensive coordinator for the Golden Hawks. During his first season as Laurier’s bench boss, the youngest head coach in the CIS led a team that was amongst the youngest, but also the toughest to play against, in all of Canada. Despite missing the playoffs in his first season with a 1-7 record, Faulds and his squad proved to be worthy opponents to some of the top teams in the country. Laurier earned the distinction of being the only OUA team to hold the Yates Cup Champion Western Mustangs to less than 50 points, while taking playoff teams the Queen’s Gaels and Windsor Lancers to overtime. Promising to bring in an up-tempo, pro-style offence, Faulds delivered as the team’s rushing attack boasted the leading rusher in the OUA in Dillon Campbell. After handing the starting quarterback job over to James Fracas after Week 3, Laurier’s offence showed its true potential as they averaged nearly 10 more points a game compared to their first three weeks of the season. Prior to joining Laurier, Faulds has enjoyed coaching succes on the international stage. In 2012, he served as the quarterback coach for Team Canada at the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) U19 World Championship, helping guide the team to a 23-17 victory over the heavily-favoured American squad in the gold medal game. He reprised the role this past February when he coached Team World at the International Bowl in Austin, Texas.

HEAD COACH AND MANAGER OF FOOTBALL OPERATIONS

His path into coaching is grounded in a stellar career as a player at both the CIS and international level. That same season he also was named the OUA Most Outstanding Player while guiding the Mustangs to the Yates Cup. He also earned Yates Cup MVP honours in both 2007 and 2008 after leading Western to the OUA championship. Outside of the CIS, Faulds had a decorated career with Team Canada, serving as the U19 quarterback on three occasions, including 2000, 2002 and 2003. He also guided Canada to a silver medal at the IFAF Senior World Championship in Austria in July, 2011. Faulds, his wife Stacey and their daughter Chloe live in Kitchener.

than five minutes into the contest. However, a missed extra point, meant the Hawks were done just 6-0.

“MFOOT hangs tough in opening loss to Guelph” “Defence shines against 2012 Yates Cup finalists” by Jamie Howieson

After a missed field goal from the Gryphons gave them a 7-0 lead, Laurier got on the board late in the first quarter. Fifth year senior Felix Odum of Pickering, Ont., picked off Guelph quarterback Jazz Lindsey of Markham, Ont., and returned it 34 yards for the major. The touchdown was the second of Odum’s career. His first came in 2011 when he returned a kickoff for six points.

GUELPH, Ont. (August 25, 2013) - The Wilfrid Laurier University football team dropped their 2013 season opener on Sunday afternoon as they lost a 21-7 decision to the Guelph Gryphons at Alumni Stadium.

Guelph would retake the lead in the second quarter thanks to a one-yard run from backup quarterback Lucas Nangle of London, Ont., and after a conceded safety from Laurier, they held a 16-7 lead at the half.

The Golden Hawks, who were playing their first game under new head coach Michael Faulds, got a strong effort from their defence but could not generate enough on offence to knock off the Gryphons, the 2012 Yates Cup finalists.

Laurier’s offensive struggles continued in the second half as they failed to generate any momentum, keeping their defence on the field. But the Hawks young group held strong and allowed only a single field goal in the third quarter, keeping the purple and gold in the game.

“Defensively we’re really strong, offensively we’re really young obviously and we’ve just got to get up,” said Faulds following his first game as a head coach. “I told the guys in the huddle when we just broke them down, that we’ve got seven more of these games. Where we are right now is going to be a lot different than where we are Monday night when we play [Toronto] at home.”

Late in the fourth quarter and trailing by 12, quarterback Julien John of Oakville, Ont., put together his most successful drive of the day. Threatening to cut the lead to five, Laurier could not get into the endzone and a missed field goal meant the Hawks came away with nothing. Guelph would get one last conceded safety to earn the 21-7 win.

It was a tough start for the Hawks as Guelph jumped on the board thanks a Keith Walker (Burlington, Ont.) touchdown less

Lindsey, who left for a portion of the game in the second quarter, finished the day 14 of 30 for 117 yards and one touchdown. The Gryphons biggest weapon on the day was running back John Augustine of Welland, Ont., who rushed for 127 yards on 16 carries. John, making his first career OUA start and standing under centre for the first time in three years, finished the day 11 of 30 for 103 yards. Fifth year slotback Isaac Dell of Niagara Falls, Ont., was John’s favourite target as he made five catches for 53 yards.

44

NOTES: Rookie defensive back Taylor Calverley of Kettleby, Ont., led all players on the day with 9.5 total tackles...Guelph registered four sacks on the day while the Hawks finished with two...attendance at Alumni Stadium was 2,155, which included a large group of Laurier’s Residence Life Staff

“Comeback falls short as MFOOT loses to Blues” “Secon half offensive surge not enough as Laurier falls to 0-2 after 27-20 defeat to Toronto” by Jamie Howieson

After trading possessions, the Hawks got the ball back with just over a minute to play. Facing a third and 20, from Torontos 54, John’s pass just fell incomplete, ending the comeback and giving Toronto (1-1) the victory.

WATERLOO, Ont. (September 2, 2013) - Despite scoring 17 unanswered points in the second half, the Wilfrid Laurier University men’s football team could not overcome the Toronto Varsity Blues in their home opener on Monday night as they lost 27-20 at Knight-Newbrough Field.

John finished the game with 345 yards passing and two touchdowns, making him the first Laurier quarterback since Shane Kelly in 2011 against Waterloo to throw for more than 300 yards in a game. Nyhof finished the game with 113 yards and a touchdown while Pizzuti added 95 yards and a touchdown.

After falling behind 27-3 late in the third quarter, Golden Hawks quarterback Julien John of Oakville, Ont., and kicker Ronnie Pfeffer of Kitchener, Ont., helped pull the Hawks to within seven points. However, a last-minute drive fell just short and the Hawks fell to 0-2 to start the season.

“I think in the second half we got a little bit more comfortable as a team,” said John on the comeback effort. “The more experience we get, the more this offence is going to progress.”

“We made enough plays to win the game,” commented head coach Michael Faulds after the loss. “We had a few missed plays here and there and a few mental errors, and the message to the guys at the end is that you can’t have your heads down. We showed in the second half the team we can be and we need to do that for four quarters.”

As for the Varsity Blues, Pierzchalski led Toronto with 72 yards and two touchdowns while Llevi Noel of Toronto, had 101 yards on four catches. NOTES: Pizzuti’s fourth quarter touchdown was his first as a Hawk and first in the OUA after joining Laurier from the Waterloo Warriors...rookie safety Taylor Calverley of Kettleby, Ont., recorded 6.5 tackles to give him 16 on the season.

Toronto quarterback Chris Jugovic of Hamilton, who finished the game with 259 yards passing, helped the Varsity Blues build an early lead in the contest. Jugovic connected with Paul de Pass of Ajax, Ont., before setting up a little trickery in the second quarter that ended with Aaron Milton of Whitby, Ont., hitting Alex Pierzchalski of London, Ont., in the endzone to stake Toronto to a 17-3 half time lead. The Varsity Blues continued to control play early in the second half, tacking on another 10 points, before the Hawks found their legs on offence. Facing a third down and four yards to go, John went over the middle to Greg Nyhof of Georgetown, Ont., for a 35 yard major to get the Hawks on the board. The touchdown pass and catch were the first of their careers for John and Nyhof respectively. On their next possession, John capped a five play, 102-yard drive that was finished off by a 38-yard strike to Anthony Pizzuti of Hamilton, and got the 3,920 fans on their feet.

Despite starting the season with two losses, the Hawks started the game off looking like the more confident of the two teams. Playing in a driving wind and rain, the Hawks moved the ball efficiently in the opening quarter. After York conceded a safety to give them the lead, the Hawks found the scoreboard again as quarterback Julien John of Oakville, Ont., hit Greg Nyhof of Georgetown, Ont., and Laurier took an 8-0 lead after 15 minutes.

“Lions come back to defeat MFOOT” “Hawks see first half lead evaporate in loss to York” by Jamie Howieson TORONTO (September 7, 2013) - After jumping out to an early lead, the Wilfrid Laurier University men’s football team (0-3) could not hold off the York Lions (1-1) in the second half as they fell 33-20 on Saturday afternoon at York Stadium.

Early in the second quarter, the Hawks found the end zone again as running back Dillon Campbell of Whitby, Ont., busted outside for a 69 yard major.

Led by quarterback Myles Gibbon of Montreal, the Lions scored 28 unanswered points over the course of the second and third quarters after the Golden Hawks stormed ahead 15-0 early in the game. Gibbons ability to control the game with his legs and his arm proved to be the difference as York defeated Laurier for the first time since 2002.

“I held the edge perfectly,” said Campbell of his career-long run. “And when I saw the safety coming down I said ‘he’s not going to get me a second time’, no way. So I made sure I got that stiff arm on him and took it to the house.” With a 15-point lead, the Hawks allowed the Lions back into the game thanks to a field goal and conceded safety but still lead 15-5 at the half.

“Myles is a great scrambler,” said Laurier head coach Michael Faulds on Yorks quarterback. “Just when you think you have him in your grasp he’s able to move around and make up some plays. He’s a fifth year player, he’s able to use his legs and we weren’t quite able to get him in our grasp.”

In the third quarter, the game turned completely around as the Lions scored 23 unanswered points. Sparked by Gibbon, who ran for one score and threw for two others, York scored three touchdowns and led 28-15 heading into the fourth. The Hawks would get back to within eight points after another safety and a 44-yard field goal from Ronnie Pfeffer of Kitchener, Ont., but that was as close as they would get as the Lions came away with a win. Gibbon was the big playmaker on the day for the Lions as he finished the game 14 of 28 for 211 yards while adding 155 yards on the ground. Errol Brooks of Toronto, also had a big afternoon with 97 yards and a touchdown through the air and 86 yards rushing. James Tuck of Aurora, Ont., led the defence with nine tackles and 1.5 sacks. Campbell led Laurier’s offensive effort with 146 yards rushing, a new career-high, and a touchdown. Thomas Majka of Mississauga, Ont., was the defensive leader with 7.5 tackles.

Field position also played a major role in the victory, especially in the first quarter. The Hawks defence, combined the some poor kicking from the Warriors, meant the ball never crossed into Laurier territory until the final minute of the quarter. That led to a pair of touchdowns and two field goals that staked the Hawks to a 20-0 lead.

WATERLOO, Ont. (September 14, 2013) - Running back Dillon Campbell of Whitby, Ont., rushed for 180 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (1-3) to a 41-10 victory over the Waterloo Warriors (1-3) on Saturday night.

With Campbell leading the way for the offence, defence and special teams prevented the Warriors from generating any momentum. The Hawks forced six turnovers on the night, including interceptions from Jordan Schulz of Waterloo, Ont., and William Pitt-Doe of Mississauga, Ont., and fumble recoveries from Brandon Calver of London, Ont., Sam Montazeri of Richmond Hill, Ont., and Stuart Smith of Mississauga, Ont.

Campbell, who opened the game with a touchdown on the Hawks first possession after accounting for all 31 yards on the opening drive, eclipsed the 100 yard mark for the second consecutive week and established a new personal single-game best with his performance. “I think I did a good job, but I owe it all to my offensive line,” commented Campbell after his performance. “They did a great job, and I got the glory.”

To complete the total team effort, kicker Ronnie Pfeffer of Kitchener, Ont., finished the game 4-for-5 on field goals after starting the season 3-for-7.

The victory was also a milestone for head coach Michael Faulds. The youngest head coach in the nation earned his first career victory as a bench boss in the annual Battle of Waterloo showdown.

NOTES: Pitt-Doe also continued his move up Laurier’s singleseason kickoff returns list in the contest as his 47 yards moves him into fourth all-time for single season yards with 309... defensive back Chris Ackie of Cambridge, Ont., finished as the Hawks leading tackler with seven total tackles to go along with a pass breakup

“It feels really good,” said Faulds following the game. “More to get the monkey off my back, but hopefully it’ll be one of many.” Also earning his first career victory was quarterback James Fracas of Waterloo, Ont. The graduate of Sir John A. MacDonald SS, located just minutes from Warrior Field, earned the win in his first career start after taking over starting duties from Julien John of Burlington, Ont. Fracas finished the game 15 of 26 for 170 yards through the air and added nine yards and a touchdown on the ground. “I think it’s always nice to get that first win,” said Fracas on his achievement. “Our offence, we had a great game plan coming into the game. Obviously our running game was phenomenal. Dillon Campbell played the best I’ve seen a running back play and we really rode his back and that helped with this game.” Laurier’s success on Saturday night was generated by their

“MFOOT battles hard in loss to No. 2 Western” “Laurier puts scare into nationally-ranked Mustangs in 45-24 defeat” by Jamie Howieson

In what was a dream start for the Hawks as Laurier took a 10-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a 35-yard field goal from Ronnie Pfeffer of Kitchener, Ont., and a one-yard touchdown plunge from quarterback James Fracas of Waterloo, Ont.

WATERLOO, Ont. (September 21, 2013) - The Wilfrid Laurier University men’s football team put a scare into the No. 2 Western Mustangs on Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell by a score of 45-24 at University Stadium.

After the Mustangs pulled to within five thanks to a safety and a field goal, running back Dillon Campbell of Whitby, Ont., took centre stage. On a wonderfully designed play, Campbell took a handoff at his own five-yard line and burst through the Mustangs defence. One hundred yards later, he found the endzone and etched his name into the record books. The 100 yard score was the second longest in team history, trailing only a 103 yard run by Mike Montoya in 2007.

The Golden Hawks (1-4) held the Mustangs scoreless in the first quarter and took a 17-12 lead into halftime. However, Western (5-0) found their groove in the second half and thanks to a big third quarter came away with the victory. “A loss is tough, especially when you felt like you had it in your grasp,” commented Head Coach Michael Faulds following the game. “I told our guys to be disappointed at the loss, but look at the positives too. They’re the No. 2 team in the country and we fought toe-to-toe with them for four quarters.”

With a 17-12 lead going into the second half, the Hawks appeared poised for a huge upset. However, Western regrouped and proceeded to put up 17 points in the third quarter highlighted by Finch touchdown passes to Adam Sinclair of London, Ont., and Justin Sanvido of Vancouver, B.C.

Western quarterback Will Finch of Burlington, Ont., put the Mustangs on his back in the second half and finished the game 26-for-36 for 423 yards and two touchdowns. His favourite target on the afternoon was Brian Marshall of London, Ont., who had seven catches for 209 yards.

Laurier would hang tough in the fourth quarter as Campbell found the endzone for a second time but two late touchdowns by Yannick Harou of Gatineau, Que., helped the Mustangs stay unbeaten.

Despite the big game from Finch, Laurier’s defence was a storyline on the afternoon. The Hawks shut down the Mustangs running game, which was averaging over 270 yards per game, and held

“When I shake hands with coaches at the end of the game, I want to be known as a tough team thats gonna play for four quarters,” added Faulds on his teams overall effort. “And shaking hands with the Western coaches, they thought we had a tough team, a hard-fought team, and we’re going to improve a lot.” Campbell would once again lead Laurier’s offensive output as he put together his third-consecutive 100 yard rushing game, finishing the contest with 155 yards on 15 carries. Fracas, in his second career start, was 14-for-24 with 212 yards and two interceptions.

“MFOOT loses heartbreaker on Homecoming” “Windsor blocks potential game-winning field goal in overtime to win 26-25” by Jamie Howieson

Trailing by three, the Hawks had a chance to tie the game with 1:22 left in the game but Pfeffer missed a 42-yard field goal. Laurier’s defence stepped up, forcing a 2-and-out, giving Fracas and the offence one last chance. The Hawks rookie pivot drove Laurier to Windsors 20-yard line where Pfeffer made up for his earlier miss to tie the game with no time left on the clock.

WATERLOO, Ont. (September 28, 2013) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks had a potential game-winning field goal blocked during the first overtime possession as the Windsor Lancers walked away with a 26-25 victory on Homecoming weekend.

With momentum on their side, the Hawks appeared to have the perfect chance to win with the Cerino miss but it would be for not as they fall to 1-5 on the season. Windsor improves to 4-2 with the victory.

After Windsor kicker Dan Cerino of Stoney Creek, Ont., had missed a 37-yard attempt on the Lancers possession to open overtime, Lauriers Ronnie Pfeffer of Kitchener, Ont., had a chance to win the game if he could connect from 42 yards. However, a strong push from the Lancers enabled them to get a hand on the ball sending the Hawks to their fifth loss of the season.

Leading the way for the Lancers was running back Dender as the fifth year veteran rushed for 155 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, and added two receptions for 31 yards and a score through the air.

“I’m proud of our guys how we battled back,” said Head Coach Michael Faulds following the loss. “All you can ask for is a chance at the end of the game and we definitely had that. Our defence did a great job in that first overtime of stopping them and we had a chance to kick a field goal at the end. Windsor, give them credit, they made a great play and blocked the kick.”

Lancers quarterback Austin Kennedy of Windsor, Ont., clearly hobbled by a knee injury, finished the game 16-of-24 for 189 yards and two touchdowns but only ran the ball eight times for seven yards. As for Laurier, Campbell and Fracas led the offensive attack. Campbell finished the day with 193 all-purposes yards, including picking up his fourth consecutive 100 yard rushing game with 127 yards on 26 carries. Meanwhile, Fracas had his best statistical game as a Hawk, completing 23-of-33 passes for 313 yards and two touchdowns. Isaac Dell of Niagara Falls, Ont., was his favourite receiver making seven catches for 112 yards. finished the game as Laurier’s leading tackler with 6.5 tackles in the contest

In a thrilling back-and-forth game in front of 8,114 fans at University Stadium, the Lancers jumped out to a 8-3 lead after the opening quarter on the strength of a 23-yard touchdown reception by Mitch Dender of Amherstburg, Ont. The second quarter belonged to the Hawks as Pfeffer made it 8-6 with his second field goal of the game before quarterback James Fracas of Waterloo, Ont., found Anthony Pizzuti of Hamilton, for a 14-yard major. A field goal from Cerino as time expired in the half sent the teams to the locker rooms with the Hawks lead 13-11. A quiet third quarter featured a lone Laurier safety setting the stage for a wild fourth quarter. Windsor got things rolling with touchdowns on consecutive possessions from Clark Grace of Windsor, Ont., and Dender to grab a 25-15 lead. With things looking bleak for the Hawks, the team rallied behind the strong support of their fans and cut into the lead

“MFOOT loses second straight overtime game” “Golden Hawks give No.5 Queen’s all they can handle in 40-34 overtime loss” by Jamie Howieson

The Hawks responded in the second as quarterback James Fracas of Waterloo, Ont., connected on 22- and 56-yard touchdown passes to Greg Nyhof of Georgetown, Ont., and Scott Campbell of Cambridge, Ont. Those scores gave Laurier a 20-9 lead at the half.

KINGSTON, Ont. (October 5, 2013) - For the second consecutive week, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team experienced a heartbreaking overtime loss as they fell 40-34 to the No. 5 Queen’s Gaels on Saturday afternoon.

After a quite start to the third quarter, the two teams traded majors late in the quarter. Touchdowns by Queen’s Daniel Hislop of Scarborough, Ont., and Lauriers Rashad La Touche of Whitby, Ont., meant the Hawks led 27-16 after three quarters of play.

After failing to score on their first overtime possession, the Hawks looked to have stopped the Gaels when Laurier’s special teams unit blocked a game-winning field goal attempt. However, in a wild sequence, the ball was booted into the endzone and recovered by the Gaels Aaron Gazendam of Kingston, Ont., for the touchdown and the victory.

In the fourth, the Gaels began chipping away at the Hawks lead. A field goal would make the score 27-19 and then Queen’s tied the game with under three minutes to play thanks to a Scott Macdonell (Montreal) touchdown and a successful two-point conversion. On their next possession, Jesse Andrews of Arnprior, Ont., scored the Gaels second rushing major of the day to take the lead. However, the purple and gold did not fold and Fracas guided the Hawks into Queen’s territory. The Hawks pivot would finish off an eight play, 81-yard drive with 15 seconds left as he connected with Nyhof for his second major of the game to tie the contest at 34.

“We said at the start of the season, regardless of what our record is going to be, we’re going to be the toughest team [to play],” commented receiver Greg Nyhof after the game. “We’ve worked hard to earn that reputation and I think we have earned that reputation. We came into this game knowing that this team didn’t really respect us and I think it’s safe to say they do now.”

However, as was the case last week against Windsor, a win wasn’t in the cards for Laurier in this game as the wild overtime sequence clinched Queen’s their fifth win of the season.

Both Laurier (1-6) and Queen’s (5-1) put on a show for the 9,037 fans in attendance at the Gaels first Homecoming game since 2008. The hometown team got the start it wanted thanks to a 54-yard touchdown run by Ryan Granberg of Sherwood Park, Alta., and

The running game proved to be the difference for the Gaels on the afternoon as the Hawks effectively shutdown McPhee, limiting him to just 10 completions and 204 yards. Queens backs combined for 248 yards, led by a 100-yard effort from Granberg. For Laurier, Fracas continued to improve his stats and for the second straight week, threw for more than 300 yards. He finished the game 23-of-35 for 359 yards and four touchdowns. Running back Dillon Campbell of Whitby, Ont., led the Hawks’ rushing game with his fifth consecutive 100-yard effort, finishing the game with 107 yards on 20 carries. NOTES: Kick returned William Pitt-Doe of Mississauga, Ont., set a new Laurier single-season record for kick return yards late in the third quarter thanks to a 71-yard return...the rookie defensive back now has 560 yards on the season which ranks him fourth alltime in OUA history

Both teams recorded almost identical offensive numbers as McMaster had 318 total yards while the Hawks had 316. Marauders quarterback Marshall Ferguson of Kingston, Ont., finished the game 13-of-29 for 197 yards and two touchdowns with Loveday being his favourite target, making four catches for 76 yards and one major.

For the Hawks, Fracas threw a career-high 45 pass attempts, completing 27, for 243 yards. Running back Dillon Campbell of Whitby, Ont., fell just shy of his attempt at six consecutive 100yard rushing games as he finished the day with 95 yards on 25 attempts.

WATERLOO, Ont. (October 12, 2013) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team had their season come to an end on Saturday afternoon at University Stadium as they lost 28-5 to the No. 9 McMaster Marauders.

Fifth year receiver Isaac Dell of Niagara Falls, Ont., playing in his final game in the purple and gold, led Lauriers receiving core with eight catches for 61 yards.

In a relatively low scoring contest, it was the Marauders’ defence that stood tall throughout the game. They limited the Golden Hawks to their lowest point total of the season, which included preventing the Hawks from finding the endzone on three different drives when they purple and gold were inside the McMaster five yard line.

Third year linebacker Aram Eisho of Hamilton, led McMaster’s defensive effort with an impressive 12 total tackles while Sam Montazeri of Richmond Hill, Ont., had six total tackles. With the loss, the Hawks end the year with a 1-7 mark, the first time that has happened since 2002, which also happens to be the last time the team missed the playoffs.

“They’re a good football team,” said Head Coach Michael Faulds on the Marauders after the game. “They came in 3-3, but we know that they’re a better team than a .500 team. We had three drives inside their five yard line that we went for on third down and couldnt punch it in.”

NOTES: Attendance at University Stadium was 1,188...three other Hawks suited up for their final game including running back Rashad La Touch of Whitby, Ont., defensive lineman Tommy Griffiths of Richmond Hill, Ont., and defensive back Felix Odum of Pickering, Ont....Pfeffer moved into fifth place on Laurier’s alltime punting yards list as he finished the game with 303 yards on eight attempts, pushing his career total to 6,558

Despite the scoreline, the Hawks got off to a quick start as a six play, 57-yard drive ended in a 22-yard field goal for Ronnie Pfeffer of Kitchener, Ont., that gave Laurier the early lead. From that point forward though, it was all McMaster. The Marauders grabbed the lead on their next drive, which was capped by a 12-yard touchdown reception by Michael DiCroce of Hamilton. Leading 7-3 after one quarter, the Marauders took control of the contest in the second quarter, scoring 18 points. Tyler Loveday of Kitchener, Ont., and Wayne Moore of Etobicoke, Ont., both scored touchdowns while kicker Tyler Crapigna of Nepean, Ont., accounted for the other four points on a 40-yard field goal and a rouge that gave McMaster a 25-3 lead at the half. The second half featured almost no scoring as both defences held strong. The Hawks forced an interception and also blocked a Crapigna field goal attempt while the Marauders stuffed Lauriers offence inside the red zone three times. A conceded safety by McMaster and a second Crapigna field goal were the only points to find the board, making the final score 28-5.

WILFRID LAURIER UNIVERSITY

HISTORY OF WILFRID LAURIER UNIVERSITY In 1910 the Canada Synod and Synod of Central Canada of the Lutheran Church entered into an agreement to establish a Lutheran Seminary. Though the location first proposed for the Seminary was Toronto, Waterloo was selected when its citizens offered a tract of land on the boundary of the town. The choice of location was affected, too, by the fact that the majority of Lutherans in Ontario lived in the vicinity of Waterloo and Berlin (Kitchener). In 1911 the Evangelical Lutheran Seminary of Canada opened its doors. Facilities for pre-theological education were established in 1914 with courses leading to senior matriculation given in Waterloo College School. In 1924 the Waterloo College of Arts, providing courses in post-secondary education in a four year program, was established. In 1925 the Faculty of Arts, under the name of Waterloo College, affiliated with the University of Western Ontario. Waterloo College soon began to offer Honours degree programs in the arts. The affiliation with the University of Western Ontario ended in 1960 when the Seminary obtained a revised charter changing the name of the institution to Waterloo Lutheran University. On November 1, 1973, Waterloo Lutheran University became Wilfrid Laurier University, one of Ontario’s provincially assisted universities after Bill 178 was given Royal Assent by the Lieutenant Governor, former Wilfrid Laurier University Chancellor William Ross Macdonald.
