Facility Updates

Looking ahead to the remodeling of the facility, we are pleased to announce yet another renovation project at the AC. The Hawk shop will be undergoing a facelift that will enhance customers shopping experience and allow the store to hold even greater Golden Hawks Gear. Coming up in July we will be starting our change room renovation. We were able to secure funding and are required to have the project completed before the start of the academic year. This renovation will involve replacing all of the lockers, floors, lighting, showers, and paint in the men’s and women’s change rooms. By Thursday July 12th all patrons with summer rental lockers will be required to have their lockers cleared out or notify Ryan Lannan (rlannan@wlu.ca) and we can store your contents for you. We understand this will be a inconvenience, but we are excited to provide a much needed enhancement to the facility. Starting Monday July 16th both locker rooms will be closed for construction. The Visiting Varsity change rooms will be open to allow for space to change. For locker storage the day use lockers in the hallway will be available for use. For pool users, entrance to the pool deck will be from the door near the Athletic Therapy Room or through the climbing wall. Temporary showers will be on the pool deck to allow users to rinse off pre and post swim. If you wish for more information on the renovation please contact Ryan Lannan (rlannan@wlu.ca) and keep your web browser at www. laurierathletics.com for up to date reports on the renovations.

Currently Holotagine sits atop the standings after two weeks of action. If you are looking for something less competitive but active, the summer wellness pass is still available. The pass enables unlimited access to a variety of activities such as yoga, pilates, zumba and outdoor boot camp.

Healthy Living

Adding Workouts to Unique Places

Many Canadians struggle to fit activity into their lives, but overlook all of the opportunities to work out daily that are presented to them. When sitting at home watching a TV 2-3 commercial breaks that are 2-4 minutes in length. With plenty of floor space in front of you why not hop off the couch and instead of grabbing some chips or a beer, challenge yourself to hold a plank for 30-45 seconds or perform pushups and tricep dips in the break. Even stretching during the show can help to reduce stress and risk of injury during strenuous exercising. In the office where you can spend 6-8 hours a day, replacing your office chair with an exercise ball can assist you in correcting posture and strengthening your core. Lastly, lunch breaks provide another excellent time to workout. Rather than going out for lunch and eating a higher calorie meal, going on a run or walk during your break while snacking on a home packed lunch will be cheaper, prevent you from gorging, and provide a time to escape the office and reset your day. The number one excuse for not working out is “I don’t have time”, so try this trick. Set aside one block of time during your day to work out, even if it is for 20 minutes. At the end of the day, ask yourself if you were any less productive during your day because of your workout. Chances are you still had a productive day, and you got a great 20 minute workoutyour favourite excuse is now no longer viable!
