Facility Updates

Welcome back to another great summer! The Department of Athletics and Recreation is pleased to have two up and coming major renovation projects that will greatly enhance our facility. Starting in July the male and female change rooms will be undergoing a remodeling. These alterations will consist of new showers, flooring, lighting, and lockers, greatly enhancing the overall comfort and visual appeal of the spaces. The work on the change rooms will start late July and be completed in mid August. Alternate arrangements will be established for patrons changing to use the facility, and for patrons who have rented lockers during the summer. In addition to the remodeling of the locker rooms, we are about to embark on a new chapter for our Fitness Centre. The Fitness Centre expansion is a 5.3 million dollar renovation that will nearly double the available floor space in our work out room. The renovation will see an additional level added to the facility as well as a new entrance added to the building. To compliment the expanded space nearly 800 000 dollars in new equipment will be purchased for the new centre.

Summer Lifestyle Recipe

Taking Advantage of Summer Weather To make your workouts more season-specific consider outdoor alternatives to traditional training. This can mean performing interval running in the park, signing up for the Laurier wellness pass, or joining a spring outdoor sport league (i.e. Laurier Intramural soccer or tennis) that will be challenging for you and engaging enough to keep you interested. Exercise that can be made enjoyable is much more effective than forcing yourself to come to the gym when you have no motivation to do so. To compliment your exercise routine changes consider reviewing your diet. This time of year local markets offer a variety of fresh produce at attractive prices. Mix up your diet to accommodate more fresh fruit and veggies to replace some of your grain intake. Your waistline and your taste buds will thank you!
