Nevada Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor Requirements Licensed/ Certified Counselors

Nevada Administrative Code 641C (NAC 641C.300) requires that all licensed or certified alcohol and drug counselors earn 40 hours of continuing education hours during a two-year period of licensure or certification, of which three hours must pertain to ethics and three hours must pertain to confidentiality and HIPAA. Licensed counselors who supervise certified interns must attend at least ten hours of continuing education in counseling supervision, ethics, and Nevada law during the two-year certification period. These hours may be included in the required 40 hours of continuing education.
Registered counselor interns are required to earn 15 hours of training within the first six months of their internship employment, 10 hours during the second six months, and 20 hours in each subsequent year. During the first three months, six hours of continuing educations credits must pertain to ethics and six hours must pertain to confidentiality and HIPAA.
Participants in need of contact hours for alcohol and drug counseling licensure, certification, or internship, must have proof of attendance (Certificate of Completion) for possible audit by the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselor’s office.
Participants are reminded that maintenance of contact hour records, certificates, etc., is the responsibility of the individual not CASAT nor the Board of Examiners.

CD-Rom Workshops Earn continuing education hours through home study using CASAT’s CD-ROM version of online workshops. Agencies or groups may purchase a CD-ROM and have more than one person earn continuing education hours with the same CD-ROM. The purchase of a CD-ROM includes one certificate. Eight CEHs are available for each CD-ROM workshop. If the agency or group wants additional people to earn continuing education hours with the CD-ROM, an additional $20.00 fee is required per person. Register for a CD-ROM workshop by completing and submitting the registration form on page 28.

The CD-ROM is set up to allow individuals to complete all reading and writing assignments at their own pace. Reading and writing assignments usually require eight hours of work. This course reviews the development of Contingency Management (CM) treatments for substance use disorders. It describes some of the initial treatment studies of CM using vouchers as incentives, along with lower cost alternatives. The recently completed National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Clinical Trials Network study of this CM approach will also be detailed. The video will depict use of CM techniques in practice. The second half of the course reviews aspects of behavioral therapy necessary to develop an effective CM approach for practice. Viewers will be provided the opportunity to develop their own CM program for use with unique patients or within special populations. Scholarships Scholarships
Application Process
A limited number of full or partial tuition-only scholarships are available for each class. Scholarships are primarily for persons with extremely limited resources. Scholarship applications must be made 30 days in advance of the workshop to be considered. Applicants can only receive a scholarship for one class per catalog. To apply, send the following information with your workshop registration: 1. A list of training scholarships received in the past year. 2. The reasons why you need the scholarship assistance. Scholarship awardees will be notified two weeks before the class.
