About the Pattern Every knitter has their own “vanilla socks”. A sock pattern that is easy and simple to make. These are my “vanilla socks”, with a little twist. Vanilla doesn’t always have to be boring, right?
WillaVanilla sock pattern is available in a total of nine size options: 3 for children, 3 for women and 3 for men! If that’s not enough sizes, the socks can easily be customized to fit whatever size one desires by modifying the length of the foot.
WillaVanilla socks are worked with Light Fingering weight yarn and 2.5 mm double pointed needles. Work your way from the cuff to toe: fancy and textured ribbing in the cuff, k&p stitch pattern in the leg, reinforced Dutch heel and easy to knit stockinette foot.
Are you ready to cast on your WillaVanillas?

Note that the socks stretch and come loose after blocking and the first time they are worn. Unfinished work should feel a bit tight so that the sock will still fit nicely on the foot after you have finished blocking your work.

CUFF: CO [56/ 60/ 64] [64/ 76/ 88] [76/ 88/ 96] sts and divide between 4 needles [14-14-1414/ 14-16-14-16/ 16-16-16-16] [16-16-16-16/ 18-20-18-20/ 22-22-22-22] [18-20-18-20/ 22-22-22-22/ 24-24-24-24]. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist CO edge. Start working the ribbing: Rnd 1: *P2, k2*. Rep *-* eor. Rnd 2: *P2, sl1, kfb, psso*. Rep *-* eor. Work rnds 1-2 [5] [7] [9] x total. LEG: Continue working the leg following the Chart. The st pattern reps [14/ 15/ 16] [16/ 19/ 22] [19/ 22/ 24] x in a rnd. Work rnds 1-4 until work measures the desired length or approx. [15 cm/ 6”] [17 cm/ 6.7”] [19 cm/ 7.5”]. Proceed to heel. HEEL: The heel flap will be worked back and forth on Needles 4 & 1. Start by working the sts in the established pattern by the Chart from Needle 1 to Needle 4 = [28/ 30/ 32] [32/ 38/ 44] [38/ 44/ 48] sts on Needle 4. Work the reinforced heel with garter st borders on both edges of the heel flap for [28/ 30/ 32] [32/ 38/ 44] [38/ 44/ 48] rows in total: WS: Sl1, k3, p[20/ 22/ 24] [24/ 30/ 36] [30/ 36/ 40], k4. RS: Sl1, k3, *sl1, k1*. Rep *-* until 4 sts remain on the needle, k4. Continue with the heelturn: WS: Sl1, p[15/ 16/ 17] [17/ 20/ 23] [20/ 23/ 25], p2tog, p1. RS: Sl1, k5, k2tog, k1. WS: Sl1, p6, p2tog, p1. RS: Sl1, k7, k2tog, k1. WS: Sl1, p8, p2tog, p1.
Continue working the dec as above until there are [18/ 18/ 20] [20/ 22/ 26] [22/ 26/ 28] sts left on the needle. For sizes child S & L, women S & L and men M & L work the following two rows: RS: Sl1, k until 2 sts left on the needle, k2tog. WS: Sl1, p until 2 sts left on the needle, p2tog. There are now [16/ 18/ 18] [18/ 22/ 24] [22/ 24/ 26] sts on the Needle 4. The yarn is on the left edge of the heel flap. Divide sts: One half on Needle 1 and the rest on Needle 4 [8-8/ 9-9/ 9-9] [9-9/ 11-11/ 12-12] [11-11/ 12-12/ 13-13]. Using Needle 1, pick up and knit 1 st in each of the sl sts [14/ 15/ 16] [16/ 19/ 22] [19/ 22/ 24] along the left edge of the heel flap + 1 st between the heel flap and the top of the foot. Needle 1 now has a total of [23/ 25/ 26] [26/ 31/ 35] [31/ 35/ 38] sts. Continue working in stockinette across the top of the foot and at the same time divide the sts evenly between Needles 2 & 3 if necessary [14-14/ 15-15/ 16-16] [16-16/ 1919/ 22-22] [19-19/ 22-22/ 24-24]. Using Needle 4, pick up 1 st in each of the sl sts [14/ 15/ 16] [16/ 19/ 22] [19/ 22/ 24] along the left edge of the heel flap + 1 st between the heel flap and the top of the foot. K all the [23/ 25/ 26] [26/ 31/ 35] [31/ 35/ 38] sts on Needle 4. The yarn is now in the middle of the heel flap, between Needles 4 & 1. The work has [74/ 80/ 84] [84/ 100/ 114] [100/ 114/ 124] sts total.
