1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them? Throughout this module I have learnt a vast range of skills, not just relating to producing visuals but what its like to work under pressure in a 2 person team. Working to a live brief gave me a really good idea of what it would be like in the real world working for an agency etc. I’ve learnt how I need to develop and modify my time management skills to suit a specific brief and that working in a team can be very operative/vigorous because of the man power, but also can cause problems due to the way two different people work. I’ve learnt a variety of paper craft skills, working with origami and the art of paper folding, I also feel this brief has widened my knowledge on how a marketing campaign works and how different outcomes can work as an overall proposal effectively. 2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process? During this module I have been much more experimental than previous briefs, working with paper as a form of media to create a range of 3d sculptures, I also feel I developed my skills with type and layout working with design for screen and creating user interface mock-ups for proposed websites. I feel that my design development process has improved in relation to keeping my outcomes consistent, research into branding and identities informed the response to YCN as I feel as the knowledge I’ve learnt about range was put into action. 3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these? It’s always hard to identify your own strengths within your work but something I think I have particularly developed throughout this module is working alone on set tasks, working in a group was excellent for idea generation and concept building but I found when it came to practical work I took on the main roles. Having this duty gave me motivation to work for my partner, not to let the side down, but also taught me a lot about how a design team can be divided up into sections from what you have can bring to the table. Throughout this brief the main practical elements (creating the bird module and branding) have produced been crossing skills learnt in Image module. Working from 2d to 3d to 2d, we developed an idea on paper, created it in 3d then took that back to 2d printed media. I have developed practical skills when working with paper, its taught me how interesting you can make an idea by using a different form of media, modern or traditional.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future? Weaknesses within this project are mainly within the documentation of my work, I found that a lot of the practical work took up most of time and recording the processes as we went along. Other than That I feel I worked really well on this brief, I was excited by it the most when choosing the briefs and I think our outcome answered all the recommendations. I think a group weakness was sticking to our chosen roles, I found that I took over during parts of the team work, 5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

1. Next time I would of liked to of spent more time perfecting the final boards submitted to YCN, purely because I think the language put together wasn’t written and tweaked in time for the deadline. 2. I would like to of made the website go live and get some feedback on the web design element of it. I think a interactive outcome that is fully functional would be really impressive. 3. In the future I would like to pursue the practical skills I’ve learnt in this brief in relation to paper craft, Next time I would of liked to experiment with more possible paper outcomes, I think with more time this would be achievable. 4. Taking the mail out to print would have been my ideal ending to YCN but unfortunately because of some last minute modifications we didn’t get time to print it, I think to add a little bit of a personal touch to our boards digital mock up don’t work as well as if we had photographed work. 5.If given more time, I would like to extend the range of products and possibly produce some more direct mail and marketing solutions.

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas: (please indicate using an ‘x’) 5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor 1 2 3 4 5 x Attendance x Punctuality x Motivation x Commitment x Quantity of work produced x Quality of work produced x Contribution to the group The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
