Biography of William Alvarez
William Alvarez is a seasoned industrial engineer with more than two decades of expertise in demand, supply, inventory, and logistics operations. His exceptional analytical skills and extensive management experience span warehousing, logistics, supply chain management, and finance. His team-oriented approach, combined with solid problem-solving, negotiation, creativity, and decision-making skills, have proven invaluable throughout his career.
Currently, Alvarez is employed as an Inventory Control Specialist on a contract basis for JDE Peet's, the global leader in coffee and tea. In this role, he manages lot codes and expiration dates, coordinating between Peet's third-party logistics and internal systems. He also manually processes orders, prioritizing them according to business needs, and conducts ad-hoc analysis to identify the root causes of fulfillment failures, communicating these findings to internal and external business partners.
Additionally, he invests in and renovates properties for sale, showcasing his versatility and entrepreneurial spirit.
Before his current role at Peet's, he was the Inventory Rx Manager at CVS Pharmacy, Inc., located in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. During his three-year tenure there, Alvarez was pivotal in creating a data and reporting infrastructure from scratch using Tableau/BI and SQL to deliver real-time insights into products, marketing funnels, and business KPIs. He streamlined operations, inventory, and planning processes, reducing manual steps and improving accuracy.
Moreover, he generated daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports utilizing the SQL Oracle database. He participated in the data migration to the "Snowflake Interface," enhancing the analytical tools available to the CVS Pharmacy division's inventory and operations team. He also led weekly training to improve the inventory planning team's SQL skills. He managed weekly S&OP Forecast Consensus meetings to synchronize marketing, operations, and supply planning forecasts with risk assessments and mitigation measures.
At CVS, Alvarez developed and implemented effective forecasting models based on industry trends and product line demand trends. He also managed the inventory replenishment and allocation processes for the company's network stores during all COVID-19 testing programs. He also acted as the primary liaison between vendors, CVS finance, and senior regional leaders, helping to produce monthly sales forecasts and strategic business plans.
Earlier in his career, Alvarez worked with Cardinal Health as a Global Demand/Supply Planner and with Hasbro as a Global Planner for Supply Chain and operations. His first role in the United
States was as a customer logistics manager with Ryder System in Miami, Florida, and Plano, Texas.
Alvarez holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Jose Maria Vargas University and a Master of Liberal Arts in Finance from Harvard Extension School. His professional certifications include a Forecast Business Analytics Certification from the Wharton School of Business and a Master Black Belt Six Sigma from Villanova University.
Proficient in English, Spanish, Arabic, and Portuguese, Alvarez also enjoys playing the guitar, running, and exercising. Earlier in life, he modeled in fashion shows and participated in Mr. Venezuela. He is married and has three children.
