The Human Body INVESTIGATION TOPIC

While discussing the philosophical concept of Horror Vacui with my Literature teacher, she mentioned the belief that, since everything is empty (and thus only a visual representation of itself), life is nothing more than art. This idea, known as Vanitas, led me to concentrating on the human body, not only taking into account its external components but some internal organs as well (after all, according to Vanitas, even what is “inside is only superficial). I decided to concentrate on what the human body looks like, and nothing more. There is no reason to the production of these pieces besides the fact that I think they look good. As visual objects, they are meant to be seen, just like Vanitas argues is the purpose of every object in life. I do not oppose, however, the idea that some meaning might be found in my art. That is the beauty of it being empty: absolutely anyone can choose what to fill its void with. Contradicting ideas can be represented by my works at the same time, but this is only because it does not really represent anything besides the explicit. The human body is explicit. One functions because the body serves the literal purpose of functioning, and nothing else. You get what you see. Though internal organs may not be easily accessible, they are visible. They themselves are hidden, but their purpose is not.
