About me ! Birth date: October 20 of 1997 ! Birth Place: Bogotá, Colombia ! School: Colegio Los Nogales Bogotá, Colombia
Anquity ! The main idea of my portfolio is antiquity. I wanted to explore how time can affect an object. I started with things that looked old and had aspects that make them seem forgotten. After sometime I decided that I wanted to go down the path of memories rather than the object itself. I changed things like technique, colors, and composition depending on the memory I wanted to emphasize in. I want to show that an object can keep a memory alive; without this object the memory could fade away. ! I started my portfolio with the idea of antiquity and I started to draw certain objects that seemed forgotten. I took as a reference Jim Dine, an American pop artist. He uses a lot of charcoal to create the effect of oblivion. In image 1 I used charcoal to create this effect as I did in image 6 with the bicycle using a little of sanguine, however in image 4 I became interested in texture and color and how the fusion of both could create a different approach to the same idea. After exploring different techniques I thought it would be more interesting to go down the path of memories that the object possess. I was inspired by the poem "I Looked Upon My Native Walls" from Francisco de Quevedo. This is a poem that talks about objects that remind the poetic voice of death. I started to think that every object could show someone a story even if the person is not personally connected with the item. In images 8, 9 and 10 I used acrylic for the object because it is a material that seems more permanent than pencil or charcoal and I used different materials such as colors or pencil to represent the memories because they are more delicate materials and not as “strong” and permanent as acrylic.
