Laura Pastrana´s Art Portafolio
My process I started my work with the general idea of music. First I started exploring the relationship between humans and music, our emotions. How we feel by listening to different genres of music (the work of 3 portraits of me with different colors each). Later evolving from emotions, I decided to show my personal relationship with music, dancing (linoleum printing of two girls). After this, I took a turn and decided to work with the roots, every genre comes from somewhere, such as every person. I started working with my own roots by painting with a traditional candy from the part of the country where I come from (the piece of roots painted with guava paste). I decided to dig deeper and work with my family, what for me are my real roots (painting of two little boys, a girls and the father on the beach). Specifically, my grandparents which are the base of my family, the only ones left of my ancient roots. I worked with the things that reminded me of them, their handwriting (last work with handwriting as image and the piece that has a blue pallet and printed paper with handwriting). That later I turned it into something more significant, what they liked to do and how I remember them (the work of a circle with a book and a yellow radio and the work of a playing card sewed). Finally, I started exploring the concept of old age and what it represents nowadays in Colombia. The thing that popped into my mind was religious fanatism, in catholicism (white work with an image of the Virgin Mary). All of these inquiries are shown through my portfolio.
