A little about myself • In this year in AP studio art I had the possibility of experiencing different feelings towards my portfolio. I really enjoyed learning different techniques to make my portfolio more varied and to implement this techniques on my free hobbie paintings. After the class I learned how to analyze paintings more deeply and in different aspects like the composition of the drawing. I started to be interested in art in an early age thanks to my parents that took me to art galleries. Later on, my abilities grew in the class of art concentration in 9nth grade on school where I learned the basics of art. After that class I started to expand my knowledge on art when I took the Studio art AP. I know I will continue to use what I learned as a great part f my life and as a hobbie.

What is the central idea of my concentration? • The central idea of my concentration is race and culture. At first I just wanted to show black people, but later I decided to show other races and link that with culture. I believe it was very important to include that in my portfolio, not just to make it more varied, but also to show the strong physical traits that difference every race and add something about their culture. My final goal was to make people aware of other races and cultures apart from theirs.
How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? You may refer to specific images as examples. When referencing specific images, please indicate the image numbers.
• My work started with what I felt the most comfortable with, black race in image 1. I started to change my mind so in image 2 I included black culture from my country (called palenqueras) but also people from different races and religions to show contrast between them. After deciding to expand my central idea I had to do some research on other cultures like the Islamic and searched for artists like Princess Hijab to get some inspiration. I researched what was the difference between a hijab and a niqab in order to be able to draw them. As I started to broaden my topic I tried to change my way of work, I started searching for different techniques like watercolors and different ways to use ink as shown in image 7. As I kept exploring and finding ways to add more diversity I learnt that Geishas are very important in Japanese culture, so I decided to implement what I had learnt from watercolors and came up with image 9. Without leaving aside black people I decided to use a technique I have never used before which is monotype in image 10, this helped me because as mentioned before I was adding diversity to my portfolio, not only in concepts but in techniques. I went through a process that changed my central idea and helped me to learn things about other cultures and different techniques that I can use in the future.
