Human Nature Laura Rendon

My investigation is based on the human body and face. The complexity of the human anatomy has always appealed to me. I initially intended to represent the perfection of the human face and body through hyperrealism. However, I soon realized there was much more to a human being then a body and a face. I began therefore to combine within my art works both the physical aspects of humanity as well as the essence of human nature, which I believe is far more complex and misunderstood.

Since the very beginning of my process as an artist, I dedicated my time and efforts to perfection my technique, sinking deeper and deeper into hyperrealism, or at least, what I thought this was. I used to perceive the human perfection as aesthetic: a perfectly proportional sane body or a very symmetrical face; I dedicated hours into producing exact replicas of photographs. Throughout this year, I progressively took confidence in myself, as failures became more frequent and therefore, less deadly. As the trace of my brush over the white surface began to loosen up, I took off this fallacious mask I assigned to the figures I draw, uncovering the true, imperfect nature of humanity: its colorful face, the blindness of human kind… Through different art techniques such as ink and water colors, watercolors, color pencils, oil paint and much more I have learned about both the human facial and bodily anatomy and what hides within. 2
