MANUELA VARGAS AP Studio Art portfolio

Exploration I started with the idea of exploring art because I had an idea of my future career. I thought that wanting to study architecture, I wouldn’t need to begin developing my artistic side, and with this course, I would have a great start. But as time passed and I began to understand better what art is, I realized that I would not only need art for a career, but art is a perspective, and it gives you the tools to the things differently. With time I also realized that through art I could really see myself, what I like and what I hope to see from the world around me.

Concentration My concentration is a visual representation of biodiversity of culture around the world. I have included works that are symbolic, some that show clearly how cultures in specific places are conformed. I started out my portfolio by exploring the essence of a culture, such as muslim culture on images 7 and 9. But besides, I tried to mix in architecture, allowing me to discover that my interest was other. Then I continued to explore new techniques, which were inspired in artists such as Lemaitre and Egon Schiele. The discovering of new materials helped me get out of my comfort zone, and try new things. During my process, I didn't explore the area of body language, but the emphasis was more into the "clichĂŠ" symbols of every culture. Besides, I tried exploring the drawing technique into human figure and features, making me to give extra effort, and recreate how we perceive our cultural differences. Finally, my goal was to blend culture essence into daily life art. I constructed a series of works which are interactions and combinations between identities, as seen on image 5. So, during my AP portfolio construction, I was able to open up, to investigate and really getting to know the real characteristics that we have around the world, the different ways of living and different ways of interacting.
