Picture the scene: a glorious summer’s day, donkeys sauntering by, the jolly toots of an Anglo-Peruvian brass band. Then mix in the enticing smells of Pimms’ and strawberries, candyfloss and craft beers. Welcome to the summer event of the season – South-London style – the Friends of Ruskin Park Summer fete.

Where else in London can you put the kids on a donkey, handle reptiles, and feast on Guyanese cuisine and gourmet sausages?

On the entertainment front, Kids Whirled cinema are putting on films in their magical teepee for young film buffs. Music comes in the form of a

diverse range of local talent including the mighty Cambria choir, the Dog Kennel Hill School brass band and South American band Corazon Cuestino.

Activities to try Have a go at willow craft, try a competitive game of chess, enter the photography exhibition or simply sit back and listen to Caribbean folktales.

Children can take part in boisterous games and activities, penalty shootouts, face-painting and activity trails, while their parents can marvel in the excitement that good old-fashioned entertainment can bring to their little ones.

A close-knit community Hosted by The Friends of Ruskin Park, a group of volunteers who have been instrumental in maintaining this glorious green space, and proudly supported by Free Home Staging Consultation-Urban Village, this event is growing year on year and showcases the community spirit that has made this pocket of South East London so popular.

Now, more than ever, Londoners are realising the value of banding together as a community. So come on down, get involved and support the fete.
