Rocket League: Are you ever late in the party?
Rocket League is very fun sports game of sorts that is all about driving a different type of cars and scoring a goal. Being developed by Psyonix, it was a spiritual successor to their not-so-famous Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered-BattleCars, which was released several years ago for the PlayStation 3. Rocket League has been around since 2015, and it was first released on Windows and PlayStation 4. A year later, it was then released on Xbox One. Currently, there are more than a million registered users, and Rocket League has actually become a legitimate esports videogame.
Now, it brings up the question, are you ever late in getting Rocket League for your preferred platform? The answer is a quick NO. It has a very active community with a lot of new players on different platforms and it helps that this game supports cross-platform matches. Basically, players from Xbox One and PlayStation 4 can be teamed up with Steam players. However, it is not the case for the Xbox One and
PlayStation 4 players as both sides have not yet agreed to implement a crossplatform between Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Also, you cannot make crossplatform parties so tough luck if you have a friend who plays Rocket League on PlayStation 4 and you play on PC. Enough with the cross-platform topic, it is an amazing feature and it definitely improves the game’s longevity in the long run. Moreover, if you do not know, this game only costs $20 on all platforms, which is cheap considering you will play this game hundreds or thousands of hours. Another thing is, you do not really have to spend anything more with this game unless you want to have more cars by buying the DLC or open cases, which is very similar to how Counter-Strike: Global Offensive works. All of these are optional.
Gameplay-wise, Rocket League is probably one of the unique Indie Game you would ever play. I admit, the first time I heard about this game, I found it quite cheesy and never really liked what I had seen at first. However, my friend asked me to buy itso we played together and it was a blast. The most popular game mode is the classic soccer/football match. You have to score goals by hitting the huge ball to the opponent’s goal. It is not easy, though, as it requires precision and
power. The strategy is also a huge factor, so you should know how to rotate with your teammates; otherwise, you may get outplayed by more experienced players. However, if you manage to score in a match, it really gives out a very satisfying feeling.
Rocket League also releases new experimental game modes from time to time. It always comes free with their game patches. I particularly like Hoops game mode, which has the same concept as the main mode, but it is basketball-themed so you have to shoot at the basket to score. Theyalso added power-ups in the game, which is crazy fun! Although, you can turn it off if you want some classic matches. It is never too late to buy this game, Rocket League is being updated constantly with new features and new cars (if you ever buy the DLC).
